Like what makes something epic? It seems like mostly a bunch of big explosions and extra high quality animation. I guess like the emotional impact would be a slightly more important factor for me. That and bringing build up plot threads or foreshadowing together. Of which longer series like One Piece, Bleach, HxH, Fairy Tail, Hakusho, and basically the long shounen action series are going to usually do best in terms of "epicness". But the series also tend to not have the animation of some shorter series. Definitely not always the case though in either direction.
