Audio problem was most likely a codec format problem. Xvid/DivX refers to the video codec but the file itself is a container format which can contain any of a range of different codec streams. Maybe it didn't support the audio codec but it thought it did because it supports both the container format and the video codec so it tried to decode the more or less 'random' audio data which resulted in more or less 'white noise'.
PLCC was the term you were looking for. :)

Yep, it's obviously not the cheapest one, but I wouldn't bet on it being particularly expensive either.
The brown socket is called a "PLCC" - Plastic Leadless Chip Carrier.
Do you look in dumpsters and curbside stuff for electronics? I found a similar model - a bit smaller - no charger, so not sure if it works! A 5V version!

That LCD seems to be packaged in a really really old form factor for laptops, I've seen a lot of Pentium and a couple of Pentium II machines with those. Most of them had passive matrix displays, though.
I'd have given it about even odds for a power supply fault or an inverter fault. To me, the case design almost looks like a scaled down version of an early 2000s AIO PC.
It looks far better inside than any other digital picture frame I've seen.
I wish I had a trash dumpster like yours in my vicinity, then I'd find lots of awesome stuff...
The GUI looks like a DVD player
When you turned it over it looked like there was something in the speaker, maybe they got water damaged or something manufactured wrong and that maybe why they sounded like blown speakers??
No, it's a decoding issue. The speakers work fine otherwise.
Oh... So it just didn't support the encoding of the Audio? I wonder if you can do a software update on it? No matter, I would just use it to make a digital scope or something useful. lol. Thanks for the reply.
They use those in shops for demonstrating products. Could be worth something.

QC should have been checking the connectors as that one was clearly NOT "OK"
In the grand scheme of things it did work, what was the audio issue?
Considering the QC label was in the hidden part of the main board I would consider that it means the board was OK, not the full assembly.
Agree, the sticker was no doubt for the BIOS flash revision
