    The new Intel CPU's look like a BEAST for a Plex server even without the addition of a standalone GPU is my take-away from this video. It will be interesting to see what their next generation of GPU's will bring to the table outside of gaming.

    Man, your channel has a great potential, no one is comparing transcoding performance, you have access to many hardware but PLEASE…. Get your self some methodologies, it makes no sense to use these random movies and qualities. Also, do not run the movies in the same machine as the Plex server, your power consumption will be inaccurate.
    Let me give you an exemple of what I do. I run the same copy of John Wick 4k HDR Remux and transcode it with HDR tone mapping, subtitles and truehd áudio and got 8 simultaneous transcoding to 1080p. You can try it with other settings and lower resolutions and get an usefull metric.
    Edit: Your wattage is going high because the pc is acting as a Client, the power consumption of the iGPU will not to higher than 20w if only used for the server.

      Its not the same computer, its 2 of them. It only seem like that bc i have the windows maximized. My plex server is on windows 11 and im using my mac computer to do the test and to remote into the windows computer. This is why when we look at HWinfo at the very top it says 'Chrome Remote Desktop.' These random movies are all 4K and the differential in sizes makes the results unique to my channel. All test are done with the same movies files and in the same exact order so the results can be compared to one another. HDR tone mapping and subtitles are turned off so it doesn't effect the results. Thanks for watching and commenting!
      EDIT: 1:23 Is where I check in with the system before we even start the test and you can see the cpu is only at 9 watts. Your clearly commenting on the wattage after the test starts.

    Latest HW info is: v8.14 . great vid . appreciate you testing .
    I really dislike the new intel naming scheme. as if it wasn't already jumbled enough . LOL
    Currently using a 9th Gen i5 for a home lab, and hardly ever see usage over 50% using " Top " command.
    I'm running ProxMox, and have a Synology VM, where I run PLEX, a Win11 vm, and a few Linux VM's.
    Was debating on making a 12th Gen i9 setup . but I don't even max out the i5 9th Gen.

      8.14 was released yesterday or today but i did my test before then, on Sunday which was 8.13. Very nice set up, I actually have a proxmox server and was wondering about that Synology VM. How do you like it compared to an actually nas!? Does it give you access to the apps? Yea my plex server is a 10400 UHD 630 and i cant find one reason to upgrade. These videos are for people doing a new build and possibly having alot of people accessing the server. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      @@GeekShhh I am curious as well. I may go with this solution without a GPU to keep the heat down, as this is impressive for the amount of streams transcoding of 4K. Why add any more heat? I have other gaming systems!

    Thanks for doing this test. Do you notice if the quality of the hardware transcode is any better or worse than your other tests?

    • @GeekShhh
      @GeekShhh  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      The quality of the transcode is the same. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    great video man, did i miss what motherboard you are using? just wondering if shared memory for the gpu is shared or if you have it set, im guessing resizebar is on, even though that probably doesnt do anything in transcoding.. also hell yeah man pump that ram up to 64gb ha

      @@GeekShhh Good question - can you try that? Also can you include Dolby Vision (DV)?
