Larkin Poe are amazing. One of my favorite current bands (along with The Warning, The Ally Venable Band, Dea Matrona, Dirty Honey and Madison Galloway).
Love Larkin Poe. Thank you for checking this masterpiece out. It's the oldest original song they still perform live. It's writing even predates the formation of Larkin Poe. It didn't really fit as a Lovell Sisters song but found life early on for Larkin Poe. It remained unrecorded until 2021 where it appears on the album "Paint The Roses", a live album in conjunction with the chamber orchestra Nu Deco Ensemble. I actually prefer that version, but the setup here is perfect. On their website, they sell a "Paint The Roses" medallion that they donate the profits to benefit mental health. Live, they are an absolute joy. Gracious and kind, and such professionals. It's a different experience to The Warning live, but just as moving. Small bit of trivia: Rebecca and Dany Villarreal share a birthday.
Hope you also had the pleasure of hearing this live. Larkin Poe and The Warning are my two favorite bands, not just because they are great musicians but even better human beings!
@@Incognito-8884 I've seen Larkin Poe about 7 times, from as a duo in a tiny room with about a 40 capacity, to a full band in a 650 capacity room. Brilliant every time.
@@Robert_Herring Saw them twice in the Netherlands at moderate venues, loved the acoustic block they played on the last tour. th-cam.com/video/qXi_tXdcci0/w-d-xo.html Seeing them as a duo in a small venue would be a dream come true! Still watch their porch pickin streams regularly.
Thank you so much! I stumbled over this gem a few years ago and it still holds a special place in my heart. Its just so beautifully haunting, tragic but you can feel the fighting spirit. Again, thank you!
😢@@SaeedReacts. At about the same age, she was Mandolin Player of the Year at the largest Bluegrass festival , the youngest person, and first female, to do so. The Lovell Sisters Band (including older sister Jessica) also played on Prairie Home Companion, a show on PBS Radio, as teenagers.
Rebecca wrote this when she was 16 years old. My mother was afflicted with a form of dementia as were her mother and both of her siblings so I've been aware of this demon for quite a while. Five minute after hearing this song for the first time, I had an appointment with my doctor to get a baseline reading for possible later onset in me. And yes it is just a little uncomfortable at 73 years old.
Hey, Saeed. Loved this. The lyrics, after hearing background story, were so spot on it’s insane. Thanks for introducing me to new artists yet again. 🫶🫶
Aloha Saeed, I've been a fan of Larkin Poe years before discovering The Warning. The 3 Lovell sisters have a similar upbringing to the 3 Villarreals. Both sets of parents are not musicians but avid music lovers. Started their children on classical piano (and violin for the Lovells), and supported their children in their pursuit of a musical career. Applause for the parents!!! Eventually the two bands diverge into their own chosen genre of rock, but both exhibit the same kind of passion and dedication to their musical careers!! And all are so humble...well grounded human beings! I hope you explore more of Larkin Poe! #FeedMyLarkinPoeHunger #APDVillaReality
The Lovell and Villareal sisters have many similarities indeed. Including a very well documented history on the internet. Guess I'm a sucker for sibling magic in my music!

Thank you for possing the question,"or is it all happening at once?"
It is a very interesting question that i think about quite a lot.
oof. This one gets me every time.
Larkin Poe is to Americana/Roots Rock as The Warning is to Rock. They're absolutely another band worth exploring!
Incredible song. Very powerful. Definitely want to hear more.
