Thank you for acknowledging that skin issues affect our mental health as well as being a dermatological issue! I suffered from cystic acne for many years and I avoided so many social situations because of it! I did accutane in my late 20’s and I no longer have it. That being said, I still have scars that affect me as much as the acne! I am getting a Co2 laser very soon and I am very excited to sort of close this chapter in my life! I love you Dr Dray!!😀😀

I went to the dermatologist today and she prescribed me spironolactone and tretinoin. I'm so excited! She said that my skincare routine is fantastic (using Cera Ve products) and I seemed very well-educated on the medications she mentioned to me. I have you to thank for it, Dr. Dray! Also, she did a skin check and she said I look really good, just a small bit of sun damage on my upper chest. That's probably from years of not bringing my daily SPF down there lower than my neck. I didn't learn that until I starting watching you lol

It’s so true. Cystic acne screwed me up for years. And I struggled trying every cream I could get my hands on, to no avail. Finally I insisted that my doctor send me to a dermatologist, who immediately put me on accutain. What a blessing that was! Took two rounds of treatment to completely rid the cystic acne. I love my derm - she’s amazing. That first year after getting clear - my skin looked ahhhmazing! Not a pore, not a blemish and no oily skin. I would have stayed on the meds if she allowed me. That stuff is magic. Now about three years later, god has cursed me once again with subhorrea dermatitis on my cheeks and upper eye lids. Apparently this skin condition is much more difficult to treat and there is no magic pill. 😡. Now I’m back on the merry go round, trying to find the med that works for me. So far I’m having very minimal results. I’ve watched your video on SD and am using the dandruff shampoo on my face every other night. It helps slightly. So thank you for that.
Thank you for sharing this here about your history with cystic acne and positive experience with accutane. Seborrhea is equally a difficult diagnosis to live with profound effects on an individual's quality of life. I am glad to hear the anti-dandruff shampoo has helped slightly. Remind me...was it you that tried promiseb?? If so, curious if it helped any/at all. It is shea butter based, along with castor oil.
Dr Dray yes that was me. The Promiseb had a slight benefit, but it started breaking me out. Just last Friday she changed me to Alcortin A, which helped tremendously with the itchy and swollen eye lids that occurred after a very bad flair. I’m applying that twice a day. I’m also using the differin moisturizer on a wet face. I love that product and its cheep! I wonder if SD flair-ups are more common during the fall season....feels that way to me. Anyway, thank you for these videos and sharing your knowledge. You’re beyond awesome 👍. Love your mom too!
thanks for telling me brian! fyi, promiseb is a shea butter based cream that also has castor oil and grape fruit extract...it is basically a prescription moisturizer...i have never prescribed it or seen it used and was curious what your experience with it was like

Also if you do not feel as though you "click with" the first psychologist you see, please try a few different ones. It is vital that you feel comfortable and understood by whomever you see. Hada Labo is my cleanser of choice too- I am.convinced it has made my eyelashes more luxuriant and mascara looks so much better-have you noted that effect (or am I dreaming!!)?

Fun shopping! I have one of the barefoot dreams cardigans and LOVE it!! Mine is the same style your mom tried on but in navy. I wear it so much with jeans! It washes beautifully and is sooo soft. I got both of my daughters one for Christmas.. ☺️. Sue

Here’s a tip for you - search Amazon for “Toes Home” headbands, love them. Beautiful fabrics and great for the gym, I also use them while cleaning to keep hair out of my face. ❤️ em 😁 they come looking like a neck gator but rock as a head band

Here in U.K if you have a skin disease you have to go to your doctor first, then they refer you to a dermatologist if they think is necessary . In my case it was only slight rosacea on cheeks so I wasn't referred and was prescribed nothing !! I then went to a beautician and she told me that it was mild rosacea and tried to sell me loads of expensive products . Im stuck in the middle here with trial and error !!! Finding your vlogs extremely helpful regarding what ingredients to avoid etc ..

I myself am going thru alot with my acne, never had acne until my 30's and its been rough, i don't go out much besides work,because i feel embarrassed,i cant imagine what other ppl go thru thats had acne all their life!!i get depressed whwn i look at old photos of when i didn't have acne.its so rough and it def takes a toll. Watching your videos dr.dray always makes me laugh and smile.I've been to a derm, which has me on ziana gel, almost 2mths,fingers crossed with patience, hope to see results!!!

If your ance is hormonal related, which is commonly the case for adult women, ask your derm about spironolactone. It is a prescription that can work wonders for adult hormonal acne! I use it myself, and it has been a life saver.
Rosy Ruiz, i hope so too, my skin is actually purging right now from it,and i just hope it gets better,i also use all cerave skin care,and i reapply sunscreen thru out the day,as I've heard with ziana its a must. I was also on a antibiotic pill but i stopped because it gave me migraines.

I live in Canada and we have the SkinFix brand in our drugstores. There is a cleansing oil wash in their line that is for dry eczema-prone skin. It's claims are that they use natural ingredients, fragrance-free and sulphate free.

Hi Dr. Dray! It’s been a while since I’ve commented but you’re still my fave Derm Dr. How about the Neutrogena Ultra Light Cleansing Oil? I’ve used Bobbi Brown Cleansing oil but was not overwhelmed for $40+ Currently using the Murad system but I have not seen a change in skin. I guess it’s back to the drugstore and definitely will try the Neutrogena cleanser. Deb💫

Hi Dr. Dray, thanks for all your beneficial information! Quick question: is it every o.k. to exfoliate the skin on the face, or should we just leave it be?
thanks! most people way overdo the exfoliating thing and it is not beneficial...if you are using a salicylic acid wash, retinoid, Benzoyl peroxide, or AHA on a regular basis then you are already exfoliating and adding more on that is a bad idea. if you don't use these ingredients then i am not saying You "need them" but they are commonly used for the indications i have mentioned in my videos

I just returned from a 50 mile round trip to the nearest neighboring town that has a Kroger for the sole purpose of buying a Tuscany Candle!!!! To my surprise they happened to be 9.99 buy one get one free!!! Only one lemon sugar cookie (which I bought of course) along with purchasing an assortment of 5 other fragrances!! My son had eczema as a child and people constantly made him feel embarrassed about this condition. He suffered from people not his eczema. I told him, I'm so sorry you are suffering from your skin condition. He said, " I am not suffering" words from an eight year old. He said the kids belittled him at school. Heartbreaking.

First, Mama Dray is just darling! Regarding shoes, have you ever tried/looked into Tieks flats? They have been on my radar for about 2 years but I haven't pulled the trigger because of the cost. But, in the past 4 months, I have encountered 2 different people wearing them. One was a makeup artist at Sephora who swears by them. The other was a lady at Kroger who told me that she owns 2 pairs and wears them everyday. I've decided that I am definitely treating myself to some at Christmas. Anyway, I thought I'd see if you had ever tried them!

I feel the same about braces. My little brother will have to extract 4 teeth in the process which I hesitate at first but I now believe the sacrifice will be benefiting especially for his self esteem. Society can be so judgmental!

Moisturizer before sunscreen or vice versa?
use a moisturizing sunscreen, if you use before it will compromise how it sets up and if you use it afterwards you will end up rubbing off more sunscreen
