Agree, you never know what other people's capabilities are on the last 60 meters or so, some people save their energy for that last stretch in order to catch up the distance of first place who is probably tired on that stretch
This is so much bigger than this race. Rarely do you see a comeback story. Last year Kendall was in the same position and unfortunately she came up short. I know she was hard on herself about it coming to a big stage like this and coming short. She trained to be ready this time and it all worked out. There was nothing the girl from Purdue could do
Connie B yea. I can’t lie when I saw them bobble the baton I just thought they were out of it, but when I seen her coming in the last hundred and win at the line I threw my couch at the tv. Yea my couch at the tv lol
USC's 3rd leg isn't getting the credit she deserves. She closed that gap alot to put the 4th leg in a good position to win and she was just phenomenal running that last leg
dbeezy The 3rd leg may have closed the gap but the anchor leg for USC was far from being in a “good position to win” when she started her 400, especially after that terrible handoff
Matthew M I don’t know who/what caused the bad handoff, but even before that I wouldn’t propose she was in a great position to win. A better position than at the start of the 3rd leg, sure.
I've run my fair share of 400s in track and my gut tells me that she simply ran out of gas rather than slowed down intentionally. In these races, if you go out too hard, you run out of steam full-boat at the end. The Purdue runner was just spent.
It’s not over until it’s over........ run to win or don’t run at all. I love 💕 seeing that effort from deep inside of every one who calls upon it. A moment of total greatness. Peace.
Walking down a 20-40+ meter deficit in a 400 meter leg is absolutely nuts, especially at this level. Her split was 50.01... which was only 1.75 seconds off of Olympic record pace... and 2.4 seconds off of world record pace. Given the stumble at the beginning, this was an exceptional run for the USC anchor leg. (And all of the other ladies of course.)
Holy moly. For everyone asking, yes apparently you can kick in a 400. The best tactic in a 400 is to sprint as fast as you can for the first 300 and then go faster for the last 100 😂
No way they could DQ USC for barging in lane one after that amazing final leg. Shows how important pacing is. So easy to go out too hard in relays due to all the excitement. Wow, what a race! Love the Oregon fans cheering for excellence!
Robert Morrison but as a track runner you can take the inside from someone as long as you aren’t messing up the other person’s running. The Kentucky runner was not bothered but Ellis’ opportunity of taking inside and not running more and taking outside like Kentucky did 💛
There is no way Purdue is going to lose this unless they drop the baton. USC is not going to catch Purdue.................OH MY GOODNESS, OH MY GOODNESS!!!!
Lea Jones Can’t wait to cheer in the new Hayward Field stadium. It looks incredible and is going to be so loud since it is more enclosed. See you there!
Woww. Amazing. I was in suspans all the time. Really wish Sydney made her move but she kept up well. Good move for the last girl who won. Congratulations.
That slow mo shot at the end is priceless as the Kentucky runner crosses the finish line just ahead of the Perdue runner, and the Perdue runner can be seen mouthing “F**k” 🤣
Would love to know what was the time the 4th girl from Purdue put up. Definitely looked like she was running with bricks the last 30 ft and the girl from USC was just flying. Definitely looked like the Purdue girl hit the wall. Great effort by USC
The girl from Purdue still split around 52.5 which says A LOT about how fast Kendall Ellis was running. She shouldn’t be ashamed. She got beat by one of the best in the world... the 2018 indoor National champ in the 400, who also just happened to be a gold medalist from the 2017 world championship USA 4x400 team as well. Heck of a race either way! Ellis has heart for miles!
Hmm!!! Makes me wanna go out & do an exercise walk! Calling forth all 'Don't spoil it' thrilling races, in which the winner is not revealed in the video title, & participating athletes are not later suspended for doping violations. My finds are: mens 1985 4x400m world cup, 1996 olympics womens 4x400, 2016 ncaa womens 4x400, & 2014 european womens 4x400m.
Rocky, Rudy, and Kendall Ellis! One of the sport's greatest comebacks ever! She "lost" (barely) in the final leg of the 2017 Women's 4x400 championship to Raven Rogers but NOT in this race! From 4th to 1st! ALL HEART! One of Track and Field's GREATEST final relay legs ever!
This is pretty amazing! Kendall Ellis was SO FAR behind the Purdue Girl, heading into the last turn, I thought it was impossible for her to catch the leader. Kendall literally made up TWENTY YARDS, over a 220 yard distance!! That's incredible!!
Sorry Ray Reyes. I took your comment the wrong way. I'm always ready to defend our school against the haters. I'll erase that comment bud. You're obviously a passionate football fan. Me too. Class of 04.
Announcer: Purdue has just won the race, unless she drops the baton
Kendall Ellis: hold my beer
Lgpsoccer 22 haha
Excellent
Hold my baton
🍻
Lmao
GIRL!!! YOU RUN FOR YOUR LIFE. ASSUME NOTHING IN THE 4X4
I dont think she did, she just completely faded.
Agree, you never know what other people's capabilities are on the last 60 meters or so, some people save their energy for that last stretch in order to catch up the distance of first place who is probably tired on that stretch
tab0108 amen
Is this the black chat
Not just the 4X4 but in each and every race.
That Purdue girl is gonna have her own seat on the bus
That girl will be hitchhiking home
ALL to herself, man!
Ethan Bates UBER!
No bull lol u saw her face lmao she was like fuck
Fuckn Right 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

That sounds kinda like uva mbb
That wasn't training...100% EFFORT&DETERMINATION.
Nothing? She could have ran faster.

@@tianajoiner7852 you mean the terrible hand off that the 4th leg herself caused?
Matthew M I don’t know who/what caused the bad handoff, but even before that I wouldn’t propose she was in a great position to win. A better position than at the start of the 3rd leg, sure.
Matthew M Kendall didn’t necessarily get out.
Dang she really did
One of the best races you will see.. lesson never give up and leave it all out on the field
Yep! Never give up is my thing as well!
THIS WAS HANDS DOWN THE RACE OF THE GAMES!!
She is now a living legend at SC!!
USC needs to commission a bronze statue of ellis at the finish. If that doesn't epitomize FIGHT ON, nothing does.
@@brianjacob8728 She ran a 50.00 anchor leg I would have thought she was under that obviously (49.5) seeing as how USC was so far back!!!!!!!
@@dwightlove3704 She had a bobbled start.
@@stevenmackey7416 Who had the poor start???
purdue shouldve ran through. the anchor slowed down bc she thought she got it.
The anchor slowed down because she had no lift at the end. Poor training or a poor choice of anchor.
She heard the announer, that's why
she slowed down because she tied up, the anchor from USC ran her down
No mam...she just tanked...look at that back stretch...she was hauling ass
I've run my fair share of 400s in track and my gut tells me that she simply ran out of gas rather than slowed down intentionally. In these races, if you go out too hard, you run out of steam full-boat at the end. The Purdue runner was just spent.

Love way you saying!
Can't take nothing away from the talented women in this race, but... I'm now a Kendall Ellis fan forever! Savage! Tenacious! Focused!
My favorite relay race of all time. AMAZING. Watched it live and lost my mind. Definitely one of those sporting events you tell your kids about
She was so tired she couldnt even look up at the replay to see if she for sure won. Thats when you know it was max effort.

Kendall Ellis: Relax, I'm the closer for a reason.
Unless she drops her tongue...

How can anybody give this video a thumbs down. this is an amazing race with a super anchor leg.
Some partial to Georgia, maybe?
Or just jealous.
Purdue fans
That final kick by the USC runner was amazing! She deserves and rightfully earned that win! 👏👏👍
i mean how many times have you rewatched this?? cause its been over 20 times for me haha
Haha 😂 Me Too , I even immitate the commentators now😂
Oh my godnesss oh my goodness
3 years later and I still watch it about 8 times a month

wow that was badass! bravo, m'lady!
This race will never get old
Truth is stranger than fiction. You couldn't script it any better than this.
OMG who else keep replaying that final leg. WOW
i run the 4x4 for my school and tbh i’m honored to have the same name as her 😌
4:45 poor Deanna Hill from USC just wanted to catch her breath for a moment
The winner of women team was in that last 10 metre, wow....
You want to see track fans? Eugene OR, baby. Cheering USC's win.
Connie B We are quite familiar with the experience up here.
Great sportsmanship and the fans knows it
Lea Jones Can’t wait to cheer in the new Hayward Field stadium. It looks incredible and is going to be so loud since it is more enclosed. See you there!
That's crazy bruh.. she really caught that girl
The second leg from Purdue should’ve been the anchor she absolutely bossed her part! 😳🏃🏾♀️💨💨💨
other videos claim greatest comeback or greatest finish. no, this is it! And I'm a UCLA Bruin!
Kendall Ellis! This is why we go to USC!
Ok so that 1 thumbs down. Was it the girl who almost got 1st place?
INCREDIBLE!! Doesn't get better than that...
MissEllis, you are a beast and you proven it is not over till you cross the finish line, you just inspired so many girls
Now this is how you leave it all on the track! Amazing race!
Her parents didn’t pay for her place on the team, that’s for sure. Kendall is boss
I see what you did there !
Thats y u cant slow down in the last 100meter of a 4×4. Best 4×4race by far
one the bravest anchor run I have ever seen
The greatest anchor leg in a Track and Field history!
I agree this is great, but Evelyn Ashford ran an anchor leg for the 4x100 at the 1988 Seoul Olympics that was so amazing in my opinion.
One THE GREATEST FINISHES of all time. God Bless Kendall Ellis! wow
There you go...never ever give up. The Purdue girl was out of gas and let up just enough and USC kept coming and got that lean
Kentucky's first leg was straight trash. There was nothing Kentucky could do with a 1st leg that bad.
Wow.
Wow! The will of Kendall is what I got to have!
Kendall did great ! USC DID THAT
Wow. All on the line too. Great job girls.
That was truly amazing to watch I love track and field
Wow! What a beautiful race! These women are powerhouses. Great to watch! Go gals!!!
There needs be be a 30 for 30 on this race!
Damn love races like this fighting it out to the end!!!
It was a Dave Wottle finish (1972 Olympic 800M).
A remarkable finish well done USC....
Wow. What a comeback. Way to hustle.
Love Hayward Field, as a kid in the 60's track meets were free events, spent lots of time there.
Never give up,never give up ,never give up.
Amazing win!!! Big BRAVO
Woww. Amazing. I was in suspans all the time. Really wish Sydney made her move but she kept up well. Good move for the last girl who won. Congratulations.
wow, what a last 100 meters from USC, Kendall Ellis rocked it@@
There is something magic in baton handovers! It highlights the team contribution.
She tied up. If you have ever ran the 400, it happened to you too. Great anchor by USC though.
So true... 400 meters is torture to the body !
OMG amazing run girls
That slow mo shot at the end is priceless as the Kentucky runner crosses the finish line just ahead of the Perdue runner, and the Perdue runner can be seen mouthing “F**k” 🤣
running is a contact sport, i will push you out of my way.
impressive 50 second sprint
Wow I had to watch it twice. Awesome race.
Amazing girls... Amazing pictures, better than the Olympics. But the Finish by the gazelle was something else...
That was unbelievable! Great, Job USC!
Maximum effort x 10. Totally amazing finish. That's called "reaching deep down" to get every oz of energy left.
She run her heart out to win that race...heart of a champion...
Would love to know what was the time the 4th girl from Purdue put up. Definitely looked like she was running with bricks the last 30 ft and the girl from USC was just flying. Definitely looked like the Purdue girl hit the wall. Great effort by USC
Purdue anchor ran 52.5

Kendall is Phenomenal!
Great Win !
This is pretty amazing! Kendall Ellis was SO FAR behind the Purdue Girl, heading into the last turn, I thought it was impossible for her to catch the leader. Kendall literally made up TWENTY YARDS, over a 220 yard distance!! That's incredible!!
Very exciting race I loved it.
Ellis with that fourteen foot stride ;) awesome
Ah, hallowed Hayward Field in Eugene. You should see it now with nothing recognizable. The new structures are gorgeous.
Holy crap, USC just beast more, wow
That race gave me chills ....
GREAT race....
If only the USC football team had the same fight!
Class of 90 dude.
Sorry Ray Reyes. I took your comment the wrong way. I'm always ready to defend our school against the haters. I'll erase that comment bud. You're obviously a passionate football fan. Me too. Class of 04.
Its all good my friend. I didn't freak out. Class of 90 and Captain for United Airlines. FIGHT ON!
