I can't find the year right now, but I believe the song wasn't written until around 1963. An artist named Cholli Maye was the first to record it, if my info source is correct. When they were looking for a song to use in Jersey Boys showing how the group's "sound" was first created, one of the staff dug through Gaudio's songs and proposed it be used in the famous scene.
Eileen Masso i have enjoyed Valli's music since I was 12 years old and now pushing 57 enjoy even more and that includes everything he has ever put out.
The heart rocker of the 60's. We were a generation of LOVE SONGS. Frankie Valli was one of the very best. He can bring tears out of me with every word.
I came here from the Jersey Boys movie - looking for the original Cry For Me and what a find! I think it's fantastic from start to finish :) I would love to download it but I can't find it to buy for love or money. So, thank you, thank you, thank you for uploading.
Yeah it has never been released on cd or digitaly yet. Rumor has it a massive box set is forthcoming so lets hope it finally gets some sort of remastering.
Hey man don’t know if your still interested in downloading if not then we’ll I guess I reminded you of this gem:) but you can download any and all audio from TH-cam using y2mate.com nothing illegal or anything hope you enjoy bud
Heard this song at 16 when a classmate performed his rendition, and I still come back to listen eight years later. I check almost every day to see if I could find this version on Spotify and no luck, yet.
I think this is awesome, just started hearing him and the four seasons when i saw the movie ( i ve listened to some songs from them in the past but didnt know who they where) and im amazed at how enjoyable the music they made is. The movie version of this song its astounding as well...
I love this. The song, FV's performance, and even the photos. You can tell how special the one girl he's giving attention to feels (her glow, that smile!), and *everything* about it 'just strikes the right chord' like everything else in these amazing 3'21". This video is an absolute gem.
This was better then Sherry, Walk like a man, and Big boys don't cry which were all great songs. I have no clue why this wasn't a no. 1 song. Great tune!!!
I have loved Frankie Valli since I was 7 and now I'm 12 still loving oldies while I'm among other 6th graders that listen to bad music like rap and pop.
@M5BKB Try to download the program AUDACITY and you can rip all the music you hear in your PC, even sounds or internet radio, any audio coming out from your computer. It is brilliant and you can edit music too, making it louder, making songs slower or faster without changing the pitch of the voice, etc, recording voice, etc....
Suprisingly ,this song did hit charts in 1966. For a short time it hit 112 . Seems like a high number but this was a time where we can work it out and paint it black we’re out. Not sure how this didn’t make it on to the album
The Four Seasons And Me hey Thai guy above probably has no idea what he’s talking about , probably listened to the jersey boys version , I have friend connection with bob himself and can assure you the real Bob never recorded this song solo
It's three girls, if my ears have it right-Peggy Santaglia, Denise Ferri, and Bernadette Carroll. The three of them backed up quite a few artists in the mid '60s, most notably Lou Christie. They even released a couple singles together as Jessica James and the Outlaws.
Think the train wreck way that they start the song takes something away from the vocals - and the backing singers sound a little dated in 2016. But overall a great song. I thought most of the soundtrack (from the Jersey Boys movie) wasn't as strong as the play but I thought Cry For Me was one of the highlights.
Are you some sort of numbnuts? i "sounds a little dated in 2016" ??? it was written over 40 years ago dude! What did you do, watch the film and thought it was about a current band?
That was my point. Had it not been for that opening this song would likely be a staple of Oldies Radio. Or at least Oldies radio that still plays 60's songs.
It's not that I don't like this version. I LOVE Franki's voice, but in my opinion the guy who did it in the movies vocals were better For The Song. Plus I've always hated how they begin and end the song. The movies arrangement was just much better too.
I totally agree. I think the intro and ending to this song is what kept it from being a hit. The movie version is so much better because the singer's voice in the movie was more suited for the song.
Josh Den nahh this fucker like the new movie one its good but valli has a certain subtle vibe to his voice this is far more groovy and ya no preferences you dont come to the orginal and start diahhering everywhere
robert bridges You dont have to explain it to me, I like a lot of the originals better too for the same reasons. But this guy has his own preference. He probably wanted to listen to the originals after he watched the movie and concluded he liked the faster/poppier sound the movie had. And thats just his preference. He doesn't have to like what we like. Thats why people are assholes.
I don't understand why this was never a hit. Fantastic song and excellent vocals. I have loved the guy since I was 10 I am now pushing 60
I think that's bc it was a cover song. Solomon Burke had a hit with it.
No! this was the song that Bob Gaudio wrote and used to audition to get into the group. Solomon Burke recorded Cry To Me. Different song!
You're right. Thank you. Two different songs.:o)

This version is better to be honest. His voice is sad, happy, humbled, proud, hurt, angry. The whole scope of a broken heart.

thank you for uploading this, i love this song
Great song! Interesting arrangement -- the beginning and end evoke Gene Pitney, the heart of the song goes in a different direction.
Favorite song from the Jersey boys and Frankie
What a voice, great arrangement and delivery.
For 4 seasons songs, this is in my top 5.
Absolutely brilliant 🎤🎶
Both versions are just great
Amazing Frankie Valli
Why can't we find this original ver on any digital streaming platform? It's such a shame.
'58.......That's the image I want to remember of Frankie.
I HAPPEN TO LIKE THIS SONG.I DON'T CARE WHAT OTHERS THINK OR SAY ABOUT THIS SONG. FRANKIE VALLI SINGS HIS HEART OUT FOR THIS SONG.
I thought the version in the movie was beautiful but this is even better of course 😭 love Frankie!!!!
Love Frankie!!!
His voice, was just not in this world
he's still alive...
That's not what he was saying... He was saying he has the voice of an angel.
I've had so much trouble searching for the original version. Thank you for uploading!

I did the version of this song from the musical back in Fall for my high school's musical audition and got a callback with it =D
I'm doing this song for my auditon for hairspray
Best song ever
I like the Jersey Boys Bob Gaudio audition version. But this one just blows me away with the Doo wop backup.
This is such a nice song. Frankie does it so well. It should have been a big hit. Go figure?

Why is this not
On iTunes???
the best you can probably do is to itune this song off of the soundtrack to jersey boys.
Not that I didn't like the version of this in the movie. However, the emotion that Frankie reveals ........ need I say more?
what movie is this from ?????
Jersey Boys
❤ backing vocals ✨
Anyone know where I can get this version instead of the movie version
Believe it's first time I hear it. Was it in "Jersey Boys"?
Connect to this 100%
i wonder how the the real Bob Gaudio sing this..
Adrian Bullecer I've heard it. His voice was nowhere near as good as Frankie
Were did u hear it?

did u find out what album this was on i have been tying to find it all night

But you just cheated and you lied; go on and cry for me.
