  • Welcome to episode #026 of the monthly 'Gliding' drone feature film series.
Scene #01: ‘The Race’, Manly Beach, NSW
Australians love to engage with the ocean, it is part of our cultural DNA to be out in the sun and enjoying the water. But with this comes the risks that the strong and unpredictable currents of the ocean present. It is because of this that Surf Life Saving organisations exist - these are volunteer clubs dedicated to rescuing swimmers when they find themselves in difficulty in the ocean. Presented in this sequence is a surf club training \ racing on Manly Beach is Sydney. It’s hypnotising to watch the three legs of this event - knee board, paddle board and then swim. Of course this training \ racing is all in the name of preparation for saving the lives of others when needed.

Scene #02: ‘Ghost Pilings’, Me-Mel (Goat Island), Sydney
The magic of natural light is something I never tire of. It can bring new perspectives to a scene dependent upon time of day, level of cloud and moisture in the air. This scene above the Sydney Harbour island of Me-Mel is a case in point. The elongated shadows of the pilings from a disused pier take on a new life in the early morning sun.
Soundtrack: Enlightenment In The Mountains' by Barry Deep
Scene #03: ‘Cloudy Sunset, St Leonards, Sydney
The short lifespan and ever changing shapes of clouds are highlighted in this timelapse sequence shot at St Leonards, looking west over the Parramatta River towards Gladesville.

    Scene #04: Pyrmont To Balmain
Sydney Harbour has many different bays and shores that are less well known but blessed with beauty in their own right. Although Pyrmont Bay has been a heavily industrialised site for many decades, it’s still waters and artificially geometric shores are still interesting to view. The inner suburb of Balmain can be similarly characterised. This flight passes over Peacock Point and Illoura Reserve to Balmain East Ferry Wharf. With the passing of a Sydney Ferry we then follow it's path past Simmons Point and Then Ballast Point and finally as it heads toward Birchgrove.

Scene #05: Parsley Bay, Vaucluse, Sydney
One of my favourite secluded spaces in Sydney Harbour is Parsley Bay. Located in one of the city’s most exclusive suburbs the bay features a beautiful, leafy reserve, a unique suspension bridge and an enclosed swimming area.
