- I'm Madeline Harvey. So many people have requested that I do a vocal reaction video to Angelina Jordan singing Bohemian Rhapsody. In this video, we go through my very first view of this girl's magical voice. Enjoy!

It is so so romantic. I love that I can hear all those intricacies all those nuances in her voice and I love that she really pulls us into her rather than trying to dominate the room. It's it's really easy to do with a song like this because we're so accustomed to hearing this high high velocity high intensity kind of tonal color and so much specialness but she just calms it all down. I can't wait to hear more.
Oh my gosh she she seems so young to have such a developed style to know exactly who she is. Again she's holding that space holding that stillness just having her experience and she's just savoring her experience. She's just dancing with her voice. And we get to watch the entire thing unfold. I believed her when she said I don't want to die. And I wanted to just hold her.
She's got that is so much vulnerability so much honesty in her voice at the same time it's so beautifully balanced so beautifully balanced. This type of capability this type of confidence it seems like she's just you know Billie Holiday reincarnated. You know it's absolutely absolutely stunning and again I love this reinterpretation.
I love this jazzy smooth stillness her voice reminds me of like a like a glass of really fine wine. She's just sort of pouring herself out and then just letting it breathe letting it breathe. And it's it is so easy to get nervous and want to push the voice or want to do more runs or riffs than is really necessary. But everything was so well placed. Everything was so beautifully executed. There was so much nuance crisp clean clear quality in the nuances of her voice and the spin of the vibrato and the whip like nature of all of her trills and runs. It was such a pleasure a pleasure to see.
I am so in love with her voice. Thank you for making this recommendation for me. I can't wait to hear more from her. I'm going to dive into an Angelina Jordan a rabbit hole as soon as we're done here. I just want to see. I want to see more. I want to gobble it all up. I absolutely adore it. What you said here is so spot on, Billie Holaday, a little Aritha and some Amy Winehouse is what I here. My Daughter got me hooked on this young ladies' voice 6 years ago. It's been such a thrilling ride and I hope you will look at the two songs she wrote and arranged under her first contract. Million Miles (A song she wrote some time ago to help herself cope with the loss of her grandfather) and 7th Heaven, a fun step back into old school Jazz. Genius: Exceptional intellectual or creative power, the greatest musical genius of our time is Angelina Jordan. Can one be hypnotized by sound? Great, informed reaction, thank you. How amazing that you voiced the Billie Holiday reincarnation. A couple of months after this reaction, Angelina, in an interview around her new song "Million Miles", said “I have to say if it wasn’t for the unconditional love that came from Billie Holiday’s legendary music, there would not be Angelina Jordan today. I am very blessed today that her music found me very early,” she says.
It was so refreshing to hear a true vocal coach commenting on Angelina Jordan, she reminds me a bit between Amy Winehouse and Norah Jones

You are so right. She never strains. She's never in a hurry. She's a prodigy and a genius. She won Norway's Got Talent at 8 singing, as she says, Gloomy Sunday in the style of Billy Holiday. You are in for so much fun. You might like I'm Feeling Good at 10. Or her covers of Lana del Rey's Young and Beautiful or Born to Die. Or her covers of Adele, like When We Were Young or A Million Years Ago. She just signed with Republic at the age of 14, but she and her family have been very careful to protect her. She is also I would say a mystic. She has clearly had some transcendental experiences, like when, at 6, he gives her shoes to a street girl in what I assume is Iran and, speaking Farsi, tells her she will always perform barefoot to remind us all that there are children in need. She wrote in her diary (at 6) that it was like a door opened in her heart and there was a stairway to heaven and she climbed the stairs. She says that is what it is like to help another human being. And that's not the half of it. Enjoy.
I came back to listen to your reaction again. I liked it even more the second time. I only listen to reactions to Angelina, so I am quite limited. Another thing that struck me about her this time was her confidence. She had no doubt about her runs, off the beaten path of pop music as they might be. She also transformed this into a song about life and death. She said it is a song that means a lot to her; she said it's a song about hope and fear--the fear of losing something precious to you and the hope you won't. She seemed to connect it to her grandfather who passed away. She said she wished he could hear her sing it and hug him one more time for just one second. Always on My Mind is her heartbreaking tribute to him.
Just a small correction, Steve. She didn't win with Gloomy Sunday, That was her audition entry. The winning performance was Summertime (Gershwin) Dinah Washington style.

Not too bad for 13 yo :-) This the tiniest sample of an enormous repertoire over 7 public years. Hope you can spend the time to travel down the Angelina rabbit hole. The world will look very different if you do.
She is a phenomenon. The earliest recording that I have found is at age 6 she sings "I who have nothing" and you can hear the brilliance that is to come as she grows up. The rabbit hole is a great place to spend your time. Chils, goose bumps and tears along the way.
You are also witnessing probably one of the best singers on this planet at this time...even at this age. Start back at Norway's Got Talent at age 7 and you will see what we all already know... the absolute beauty in the singing of this young lady.

Angelina is a legend - and is only 14 (13 in this performance). There is no comparable Artist. View her singing her own songs SHIELD - WHAT IS LIFE - OSLO to really find out what she is about. You may take it as fact she has mastered many greats, beginning age 6.
What a great reaction to my favorite singer. I've listened to 100's of reactions to Angelina; many to this song. Your's is in my Top 3. "A glass of really fine wine"; best comparison to Angelina I have heard. She's not just some upstart that just appeared; she's been practicing for this moment for years. Since this performance was aired on AGT Champions 2 in January, her exposure has grown exponentially. She just signed with Republic Records (Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, et. al.), so now we will be seeing a lot more of her. I've been around a long time (1942), and she's the most excited I've been about a singer since I discovered Buddy Holly in the late 50's (gone way too soon). And oh yeah, she's not just a fabulous singer, she's also a terrific person: kind, humble, generous, caring, loving, funny, while also focused, determined, and dedicated. She's the one you want your daughter (son too) to see as a role model. All she ever wanted to do was share her talent with the world, and lift people up. william johnson I've only been around since 1948 (you old fart! lol) but you sparked a memory of my same excitement at discovering Buddy Holly. I though he was a genius. Some of his songs....I still swoon thinking about their unique melodies and uncanny sophistication. His musical influences....well, who has the time? I admit, I became a Beatles fanatic (no guilt, because Buddy was dead) to replace that hole in my musical heart. Like you, she's the most excited I've been about a singer since-----imagine, a 72 year old fanboy!!! I don't make this comment lightly, but I consiider her to be in a class with Mozart.
That Mozart level is sparsely populated. But our Angelina Rabbit Hole has a large population!!!
@@103mrg I was 16 when Buddy died, and I sobbed. Don McLean would have been about 12, and he said it had a lasting effect on him. Took him another 10 years to finally write his musical ode to Buddy---"American Pie". The day the music died. It still stands as an anthem to the music Buddy created and the movement that followed. And I still miss him.
@@wajj1842 The legacy of his catalogue and the influence he had on musicians who followed is absolutely astaounding considering he was only 22 when he died. I can think of no one who even came within spitting distance of what he accomplished.

I mean she's an okay vocalist but she's definitely not a genius nor is she a prodigy. Her intonation is out, her rhythm isn't metronomic (because she isn't capable of that, she isn't hearing subdivisions), her vowels are all over the place, and her understanding of harmony is basic. She's just an okay vocalist, that's the most I can give her.

@@juliahake6407 You are entitled to your own opinions, but I will just say this... take away all those thing you say are 'wrong' about the way she she sings, and she would sound like every other plain singer on the planet. We've got plenty of those. There's only one Angelina. Nobody sounds like her because she operates under her own rules, not the rigid set of standards that make so many people sound just like everyone else.... That's what innovators do.... that's why millions of people want to hear Angelina more than anyone else.

@@juliahake6407 OK I can see you are a theorist but you are misunderstanding the nature of "genius"......there are those who play by the textbook and there are those that break the rules and are largely intuitive......the art of singing is the art of heightened communications....to convey emotions and thoughts in an elevated musical manner with the purpose of TOUCHING people's hearts, minds and souls....this is the artistry of Angelina Jordan at a very young age and she does it wonderfully well way beyond her age. The musical elements you mentioned are largely irrelevant to the consumer of music who wants to be mesmerised and touched in the heart and not listen to music with an academic mind looking for musical theories to be implemented in perfection.......the flaws of the artist is a large factor of that artist's genius....go and reflect on this last statement and come back when you actually get it and realise what the actual purpose of music really is! I wish you well in this pursuit to understand LIFE! No hard feelings OK?
What you are witnessing here is a 13 year old that has had a passion for singing since nearly birth. She has spent 10 years perfecting her craft, and has studied and covered dozens of artists from many genres. Angelina is able to perfectly select and use all the techniques she has mastered over the years to fit perfectly and beautifully into any song she sings. She can bring out new emotions and meanings with songs we have heard our whole lives. ...and did I mention she's13 here (14 now). The rabbit hole is deep with this one already, and she's just getting started. You are going to want to get caught up on Angelina because she has just signed with Republic Records, and is about to take the world by storm.

*Angelina Jordan*
- Angelina Jordan was born Jan 10 2006 in Oslo, Norway. She is currently 14
- She began singing at the age of one and a half
- At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. After she won NGT, they did not want her to be thrust into stardom before she had a chance to grow up as a normal child, and get her education. They allowed her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. Her mother said in an interview that they have turned down 90% of the offers that came in. Over the years since NGT, they have turned down offers from many major record labels for and even disney.
- Angelina has covered more than 130 songs and over 65 artists in the last 6 years. She always selects the songs herself... everything ranging from old classic jazz to modern pop. She is able to change her voice to match any song she sings and make it her own. (she can cover Amy Winehouse and Lana del Rey like nobody else)
- Angelina has collaborated with some very big names over the last few years... Quincy Jones, Mark Ronson, David Foster, Alan Walker and many more. All of which heard her and were blown away by her talent.
- Angelina has written three of her own original songs: "What is Life", "Shield" and "Oslo". (all are amazing...all can be found on youtube)
In summary, Angelina Jordan is destined to be one of the greatest singers to have ever lived. This is just my opinion, but if you listen closely to any of her stuff you will hear the greatness. She sings with a natural style. There is no acting, no showing off, there are no unnecessary runs, or big belty notes just for the purpose of saying "hey look at me sing". She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.
Update: On Aug 26, 2020 Angelina's Manager/Uncle announced in an interview that they have decided on Republic Records as the best fit for Angelina and she is now signed with them as their "highest priority new artist". She has done so much already, but at 14 she is just getting started!!!
Rusty Shackleford I can't find your response to my question re your thoughts on AJ signing for Republic..I remember your words though..I just wanted to add that I'm nervous for her. On the other hand, she does have her Shield ..if she is able to control what she sings and how she sings it, then I'll be happy for her.

I went out to the Republic web site (did not find any news about her there) and I now worry she will get caught up in the whole ongoing political conflagration and damage her pristine brand. The single best response to her music I've seen on TH-cam. I've seen them all, but you put it in words best. You covered the emotion, feeling, headspace, art, science, technique, and did it in a generous, given way. The thing about music is that, lyrics aside, it is an expression of something ineffable. How do you explain the feeling a chorus, riff, vocal phrasing gives you? Even sounds like waves splashing on a beach shore, wind howling, leaves rustling on pavement, etc. are a wordless experience. For these reasons, music/sounds go beyond words and can say in 2-3 seconds what ten thousand words can't. For that reason, it's nice to hear someone get pretty darn close with their words. Brava!

It's interesting that you mentioned Lady Day. Angelina's first public performance on Norway's Got Talent at age seven was singing "Gloomy Sunday" by Billie Holiday followed by "I'm a Fool to Want You".

I've watched five or six professional reviews of A.J. and personally consider Madeleine's to be the very best one. Both her analytical and emotional reaction are blended into a very articulate and moving response, which rides on the crest of her spiritual charm.
Hi Madeline. Being an Angelina follower I too have to stop and appreciate every tiny nuance that she puts into her music. Now that she has signed to a label we are going to see much more of her. Angelina Jordan is a singular talent. I enjoyed watching your reaction. She was 13 years-old at the time of her AGT Bohemian Rhapsody performance. You might find it interesting to go back with her to her winning Norway's Got Talent in 2014 when she was 7 years old singing Gloomy Sunday and Summertime. Thereafter, she's done a great many awe-inspiring covers: "I Put A Spell On You," "Always On My Mind," and "Feeling Good," are some of my favorites. Since being signed by Republic Records she has released her own original songs, "7th Heaven" and "Million Miles."

I can’t recommend enough that you should finish your journey into all things Angelina by beginning in chronological order. Start with her first studio performance as a six year old. That performance will give you the proper perspective of how uniquely and profoundly gifted Angelina is. Then watch her seven year old “Norway’s Got Talent” audition and subsequent performances that won her first place in the competition. As you progress into her eight year old to thirteen year old performances there is no question that you will come to the conclusion that of all of the talented young singers there is no other that has the uncanny level of maturity, professionalism, vocal diversity, overall musical skills and genius level intellect that Angelina was genetically endowed with.
Angelina is the first young Norwegian child to have written a book and have it published. She has written, recorded and published three songs by the time she was twelve years old. She chooses all of the songs she covers and she has written all of the arrangements, (in some cases she changed the lyrics) since she started performing. She wrote the arrangement to her performances on A.G.T. She also gives music direction to musical directors and band leaders.
Welcome to Angelina’s world, a world that will change your perception and pre conceived notions of child singers. Every Angelina Jordan fan will tell you that she becomes an addiction.
You will see that she performs barefooted and wonder why she does that. It began when she was six years old and on holiday with her parents. Angelina encountered a young and desperately poor young girl that greatly admired the shoes she was wearing. Angelina removed her shoes and handed them to the poor little girl. From that day forward, Angelina decided to forego wearing shoes while performing as a message to the world that she will not do so until every child has shoes to wear. Angelina is an angel that profoundly touches the souls of those that watch and listen to her perform.

Please don't get rushed into "spell on you". It's her whaaaat! performance but not really indicative of her true style. Her Norway's Got Talent "Summertime" amazes as a 7 yr old. She reincarnates and reinterprets 40s-50s jazz classics like no one else today, and all before age 12. Try Adele's "A Million Years Ago", or any Ella, Sinatra or Elvis song. Here playlist are expansive. And she was just signed to Republic as their highest priority talent.

I don’t know what it is about her voice. Just about any song she sings makes me cry a good cry. Not many things in life does this to me . My heart is somehow in line with the tone of her voice. The sound of her voice is so soothing and hypnotic that my mind goes to places in my past. Some memories are sorrowful and painful and just by listening to her angelic voice some how makes everything better and replaces them with joy and happiness. Loved your reaction alot. As a professional some vocal coaches try to dissect every nuance of a singer. Your approach is the best that I have seen out of hundreds of reactions I have seen of Angelina, especially for this song. You were very direct and sincere in how the song affected you and how it sounded to you in very personal ways while you were able to invlude some really illumining professional aspects of your experience as well. Songs, like poetry and painting, are artistic expressions interpreted in the artist's own way. But naturally the reaction to that experience varies quite a bit from person to person. Since it is so subjective, a purely objective analysis is not really doing the artist Justice. Yours was perfectly balance with both aspects of your experience expressed so eloquently with sincere inspiration from your heart, not just your mind. In the last few days Angelina has just signed up for Republic Records an elite recording studio. Its home to an all-star roster of multi-platinum, award-winning legends and superstar artists such as Ariana Grande, Drake, Florence + the Machine, Greta Van Fleet, Hailee Steinfeld, Jack Johnson, James Blake, James Bay, Jessie J, ...Apparently, she's going to be fast tracked. We all should enjoy the 130+ uploads on TH-cam because she's on the verge of mainstream and I think maybe fewer or no more covers. Well done Angelina Jordan.....it really was only matter of time!
You need to go back to almost the beginning with Angelia. I recommend you start with her singing What A Difference A Day Makes on Singapore TV 2015 and then go from there. Everyone will want you to listen to I Put A Spell on You when she was 9 I believe just so you get a sense of her range. As you probably know, she won Norways Got Talent when she was 7 and the videos from that beginning are incredible. She is an amazing trip to say the least. I can guarantee you that you will be hooked.
