- It's hard to imagine rock 'n' roll without thinking of multi-talented Foo Fighters front man, Dave Grohl. Dave's mom, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, is now stepping into the spotlight with her new book, "From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars." The Grohls join "CBS This Morning" to discuss her son's childhood and how she spoke with more than a dozen music icons while writing the book.

"Mrs. Grohl" was my 10th grade teacher in 1978/79. Dave is correct, she was pretty cool and I enjoyed her English class. I have fond memories of her sharing stories about her drummer son.
Dang that'd be cool to have his teacher before Dave's rise famewise
oh wow!
having at least one supportive parent makes all the difference in a creative child's life!
Tommy Lee often talks about how cool and supportive his parents were.. from early on
You could kinda tell, early on, that it requires a pretty good human being to shape someone like Dave. Now we get to see her, and she's just great :-) very laid back, and very open about letting her son find himself without too much pressure. Many teachers have a tendency to control and try to "maintain" children...Dave's mom is not your typical teacher, or mother, either. Great stuff.
I hope this is true
Dave Grohl! And his mom! Dave is the most normal rock star ever. Love him!
Barbara LeMere Dave is so mentally stable. He doesn't fit the typical rock star mold, yet he's a bona-fide rockstar.
what's normal? A setting on a washing machine?
The fact that he BLUSHES whenever she says anything about him--especially the part where she says she has a photograph of herself and her "three favorite men...President Obama, Paul McCartney, and my SON!" Oh my. Seriously. Oh MY. ♥
Dave is such a real and intelligent and talented mf'er. So much love and respect for him.
RIP to this amazing woman
💔
Rest in Peace Virginia Dave be strong
I love Dave. He's so humble. :)
You can see how good she was as a mom seing how good Dave is to the people, even him being a huge celebrity that he is. She will be dearly missed
Just the thought of Dave being an accountant had his mom shook. Lol.
🤣🤣🤣
Dave you rock! Mommy love is the best. Such a supportive and sweet mother. We can see were his personality comes from💕
she is so cute
How awesome!!!! Had not seen this yet! His mom HAS to be a role model to raise an incredible man like Dave!!! I wish I could meet her!
i wish my mom was like this my band was ab to go tour europe just like 10 small shows but it meant the world to us and she told me i couldnt go and that school is more importamt so my band found a new drummer snd went on the tour without me
dude...that sucks. will you rejoin to your former band?
GrandpaDrumming Dude sorry
unlucky mate
GrandpaDrumming I would've went anyway. Sitting in a classroom and doing rote memorization isn't always more important than experiencing the world in a new way.
Dude, same thing here. Mine wasn’t a tour through Europe but a show in another region in the country I live in.
She never encouraged music. Quite the opposite really. Now I’m a psychologist. Go figure.
A proper mum I wish I had that !!!!
Rest in peace Virginia.
A book i still need to buy.
I just love Dave Grohl
Like if you really really love him
What a wonderful mother 😊🤧
Respect to Dave for being by his mums side I think he did quite a few of these gigs promoting the book, he is always so busy.
Dave is so awesome and so is his mom
Just went to two Foo concerts Seattle on the first Portland on the tenth. If I could say one thing to the band I would just say thank-you😊
Can’t wait for the book
When you plat music you listen to it MUCH differently than someone that does not.
so Carly's You're So Vain is indirectly responsible for Dave's career, and to a further degree, the existence of Nirvana?
I mean.. Dave's career had nothing to do with the existence of Nirvana. Maybe their popularity sure but they existed before he joined the band
The way she said “write this down” haha
I currently go to music school, but if i got some success on some of my music i would drop out in a heartbeat
Dave Grohl's look when they asked his mom what she listens to every morning. hahahahahaha
RIP
the closing plug...
nevertheless This Little Light of Mine I'm going to let it shine .. keep that in mind💋
Coolest rock star ever
TH-cam should have a love button here.
RIP Virginia Grohl 🥀
She definitely has a touch of serious about her though which comes with her teaching profession, no way on God's earth did or would Dave purposely disrespect his mum .
Sweet video he is a kind peeson im sure
6:30 ❤️🤗🍷
what happened with his father?
olas591 his parents got divorce when he was 7.
He grew up with his mother.
His father passed away in 2014.
They had good relationship though.
Dad was very conservative but realized soon enough that his son was actually a musical genius.
dauntless
ROCKSTAR = DAVE GROHL
What happened to his dad
❤❤
how old is dave here? 50 odd?
For goodness sakes, though not rock, Amy and Josh were/are A-list musicians. Dave also. And just look at how Dave looks at his mom with love and pride.
Wait Trent Reznor stole that line?
she reminds me of Angela Merkel. You can see why Dave turned out so well, lovely lady, beautiful voice too.
the hosts are so clueless
Amy winehouses mother did NOT raise a rock star.
Um….. sorry to blow up your Phone.
You remind me so much of baxter di fabrizio
rehehehehehhehehehe
Everything has to become a book?
Amy Winehouse was NOT a "rock star" .....
Dave grohl is 🤮
You are not Tom Petters
lost a lot of respect for them...Obama? really?
Brandon D you poor man
ukelele 8 Sorry I hate communist/liberals and from history you should as well. You poor boy, your a blind follower.
Brandon D for what keeping my politics and music choices separate? I ain't blind at all man
I'm allowed to like someone as a person and as an artist without agreeing with them politically
As much as I too don't like Obama. Politics shouldn't be what determines who or what we like. To a certain degree anyways.
Lol it's much better than being a fan of trump.
And btw, the vast majority of musicians are liberals. You'll find very very few that support trump... so if you decide on which musicians you like based on their political views youre going to have very little music to listen to
Can’t wait for the book
Rest in peace Virginia.
