  • Alternate load paths exists in structurally designed buildings. The ability of structures to redistribute is a virtue. This helps a lot in avoiding failures some times. Carefully used, moment redistribution can be used to economise structures if the gravity load combination is the governing load combination.     Sir, can it also be attributed to the fact that in engineered buildings, factors of safety (F.O.S) have been included in the loads and material strength and that in non-engineered buildings the mistri has coincidentally ended up with a design which just satisfies the load and moment requirements excluding the F.O.S?
