Dear sir, why there are cracks in walls @ last floor(i.e. floor below terrace) multistoreyed residential apartments. In all other floors there is no cracks in wall, but the crarcks observed in the last floor walls only. What is the reason for crack and how to avoid such cracks?. i observe these cracks in almost all the buidling which are above 4 or 5 floors. Please guide me.

@kiran, I cannot comment unless I know exactly it is. If you are talking about general cracks in the last level, it could be due to more temperature. Even the roof slab do crack due to expansion and contraction. Also many normal contracors dont give proper attention to quality while doint the parapets etc and these do crack.

@@CIVILERABangalore if temperature is the reason then even it should be same for even g+1 floor also. Even for g+ 2 floor we are not facing this problem. But here that is not the case.the cracks are only in last floor of g+5 or G+6 and above. The cracks are diagonal, horizantal in bed room walls, junction of column, beam and wall. and other walls. But the columns ,beams , slabs are intact and there are no cracks. Even in the lower floors also there is not a single crack in any walls. Is it because of the columns stop at the roof level ? and there is no continuity . and free end of columns?

@@KiranKumar-ev2sg I cannot talk unless I see what you are saying including the designs. If the building is designed then column being not continuous is automatically attended. In my buildings I dont see any cracks than temperature cracks :-)
