Vietnamese property developer Truong My Lan was sentenced to death by a court on April 11, 2024, after she was found guilty of masterminding Vietnam’s largest fraud case. The court found the 67-year-old swindled US$12.5 billion from the Saigon Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SCB) over the course of a decade. The verdict came at the end of a five-week trial in Vietnam's business capital Ho Chi Minh City. Eighty-five others also face verdicts and sentencing for their roles in the crime.

The defenders are doing just their job. You can’t blame them for what their clients committed. They must do their job whether they want to or not. The law does force defender to protect their client.
But it doesn’t mean that they at the same don’t have feelings or thoughts that their client should be sentenced if it is required to the death. And it doesn’t mean neither that don’t have thoughts or feelings that they their clients are responsible for their actions and for committed crimes.

She’s being made an example of. Vietnam isn’t a particularly wealthy company they can’t afford to have their economy manipulated like that l. Nothing strikes fear and deters would be swindlers like knowing doing something like this could put you on death row.

@goldegg0 They chose the time that had the least impact on Vietnam's economy to arrest. In big cases like this in Vietnam, the defendant has been tried 1 million times with 1 million previous results. She was specially monitored, banned from leaving the country, and not allowed to change her passport...
