I've noticed some variance in the subtitles provided, from what I always thought I heard said. Maybe its a flaw in my hearing, but when Wash was saying the first time he and Zoe met, I was sure he was in the middle of saying 'frisked' (checking him for weapons) when he got kicked, where the subtitles showed 'threw', which is a quite different interpretation.
The way Mal leaves after the "Do you want me to...wash your feet?"" line so perfectly signals: "I can't deal with this." I love the non-verbal acting on this show.
So many great quotes in Firefly. Also, a lot of great visual comedic acting as well. Jayne's hurt look when Mal won't trade Saffron for Vera. Mal's blank stare when Saffron offers to wash his feet. The end scene with Inara's blinking-eyed frozen face after Mal accuses her of kissing Saffron. Meanwhile, Mal smugly walks away like he just scored a victory.
I always loved this episode, and I love how much you enjoyed this. Very well written, very quotable. Some have even become memes. "My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle" get a lot of use in online arguments.
@@InnaSoloTVYou said it earlier. Firefly has good and great episodes, and any episode or character can be one's favorite. I am hooked on your Firefly/Serenity journey.
At a certain key moment, "Can I vomit now?" LOL! I've never had That reaction to that scene! Thank you for a very enjoyable reaction to one of my favorite episodes.
This might be my favorite episode to watch reactions to. For one, the darned thing is just so funny up to the twist, and then the twist comes as such a surprise to just about everyone. From the pretty floral bonnet at the beginning to the look of utter disbelief on Inara's face at the end, this episode is just gold.
It's truly one of the most funny episodes of the show. And yes, I guess 99% of first time viewers didn't see the plot coming - even though they put in some little hints up front. But not as much or obvious that most viewers would guessed it right. I didn't.
Good point about the shuttle when they were approaching the net. There may have been a way to use the shuttle, either as a life, boat, or a better means of attacking the net. Unfortunately, the writers didn’t think of that.
The first time I bought it, hook, line, and sinker. (Oh that is an idiom. The fish was so fooled he swallowed the bait, the hook, and even the line and the weight that makes the line sink.)
A Nigerian reactor instantly recognized the marriage ceremony, so it wasn't just a bunch of hokum that Joss invented. I think Saffron's offer to wash Mal's feet was a clue that she'd had Companion training, combined with Inara's remark about it. Footwashing can be extremely sensuous, and I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of Companion training.
Good life lesson in here. If anyone ever offers to trade you a Callahan full-bore autolock in exchange for a woman... you should take the deal. No refunds. Mal definitely should have chosen Vera over Saffron!
I absolutely ❤ this episode of FireFly ... my personal favorite episode. And to answer your question, yes. First time I watched this episode, I was caught by total surprise and I enjoyed every minute 😃
5:48 This is actually my favorite exchange in the episode. Kaylee says "You don't deserve her, you fink." And Mal tells her "Mind your own business." 😂
I had a long night and was tired after changing the alternator and belts on my sister's car. Thank you for making me laugh from your reaction at a situation only Mal and his crew could have prevailed.🌹
I liked how the writers were clever enough to let characters to be gobsmacked or speechless....Like in episode 1, when Mal kicked open the crate to reveal River ... A witty quip there would have ruined the mood of the scene...
One of my 3 favourite episodes. 2 more to come. Answering your question: I got fooled by "Saffron" the first time I watched. I did felt something is about to go bad when they shown those 2 dudes, but couldnt match this togather with her involvment.😅
From the many, many comments I've read here and elsewhere, there are a lot of Browncoats out there who regard this as their favorite episode. This one was brilliant, no doubt, and Christina Hendricks is always fabulous in everything she does. Lovely reaction, Inna... see you with Episode 7!
Firefly was made at a time when many, if not most, series were done as primarily adventure of the week episodes; bottle episodes, if you will. There IS the overarching mystery of River Tam, though....
I wouldn't usually comment on someone's appearance on TH-cam, but I finally figured out why you look so familiar to me. It's because you have a very similar face and eye colour to my friend's daughter. Also a similar smile. There are differences though, she's blonde, and also around 4 years old, so probably not as tall! 😆 Anyway, this is definitely one of the funniest episodes, I bet Joss had a lot of fun writing it.
This is definitely one of my favorite episodes and yep, I did get fooled the first time. A favorite line of mine is when Shepherd Book says ‘…and people who talk at the theater’. I have to agree with him 😉 There are more favorite episodes to come, both funny and dramatic, so enjoy!
I can't decide my favorite line from this ep, but I got it narrowed down to two: "Well, the days of me not taking you serious have certainly come to a middle." And: "See, Vera? Dress yourself up nice, you get taken out somewhere fun!"
This episode is why I named my rifle Vera. I even have Firefly-themed patches on my rifle bag! Twenty years and more, I've waited for a suitable occasion to threaten to end someone, by my pretty floral bonnet. Also, I need a pretty floral bonnet.
I second that. Though I find it extremely hard to pick favourite episodes from this show that is great start to finish, or even trying to rank them. But #8 is outstanding for me, too.
Every episode is different, and not all action is simple minded gunplay and martial arts. This is one of the episodes for people who watch body language. The word play might not translate though.
Glad you enjoyed this one - it's one of my favorites. I truly can't remember if I was fooled by her (until Mal passed out) or not. It's been too long and I've seen it too many times for me to remember. You sounded suspicious of her, you might have done better than most hehehe.
This was the first episode I saw. My daughter brought it home from college. I found 2 anacronisms in the ooening, and I said, " What the ( Special Hell) is this?", but I was hooked.
Yep. Right on schedule. Favorite episode so far. You’ll be saying that for the next several episodes. I think Mal’s probably right. Shepherd would have kissed her too. Wash did well, considering, but at least she was naked and all . . . articulate!
I loved your laugh with the blowing raspberries. Phhhhwww or something like that. Firefly is a great but short series. It's too bad as it was special. It gets even better too.
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who fall for Saffron's act,....and those who do not. :) I wasn't fooled because I knew in short story writing for this format she played a trope as a double-agent and a twist was coming. But it was exceptionally well done.
No, it was clearly a scam to me This is the best episode to watch reactions to. You fell for it hook, line an sinker. But I give you credit, you were starting to figure it out. I don't know that any other female reactors I have watched did that. The writers warn you in the opening scene. Mal in a dress was a hint about women not being as harmless as they seem. But the thing that gives it away early on is Mal not knowing he was married. Even in groups where women are treated like property, they are some of the most valuable property someone owns. They would not be thrown in to a deal like that without telling anyone. They would have been a key point in the negotiations. The show tries to tell you that by showing Jayne trying to trade his "very favorite gun" for her. The show really slaps you in the face with the scam over an over. The fact that they managed to do that an still have so many fall for it is some seriously great writing.
I hadn't thought about the point that as Mal was entering the ship, the town leader would have almost certainly mentioned something along the lines of "I hope you enjoy Saffron." I have wondered how she managed to insinuate herself into the party. I supposed the townsfolk wondered who the new hot girl was, but were too polite to make a fuss about it.
@@kirkdarling4120 yea, an after that, he goes to mess with the cargo an finds her hiding behind some crates. Now never being married myself, I can't say, but I wouldn't expect someone who believes they are the new wife of the captain to feel the need to hide behind the cargo.
A little disappointed in your timing. You didn't say anything about not approving of violence until Mal hit her. She attacked Mal, Wash, and Inara, drugged Mal, and set them all up to be killed. Not a peep about violence. Mal clocks her once after all that and a second physical attack from her. THEN you have a problem with violence.
Gee, who knew that real life was more episodic and less a series of interconnected fictions? Apparently not those bread and circused on comic books and mediocre US TV shows like Game of Thrones (which couldn’t even be salvaged by good British actors). Obviously, you are not familiar with Whedon’s Buffy and Angel not to mention Shakespeare or even Hitchcock, Dostoevsky or Bukgakov where tones (drama, comedy, tragedy, etc.) are mixed and matched. Like those auteurs, Whedon’s work is complex tonally and beyond. Clearly, like many if not most other yougies on TH-cam, you don’t seem to be able to fill in the narrative blanks utilising simple logic (y happened so x had to happen too). Not everyone, I hope, has to have things shown to them in order to grasp what is happening narratively. Still I should not forget that in today’s film and TV world things are often shown and told, something that makes one ponder youngies abilities.
Thank you so much for watching
I've noticed some variance in the subtitles provided, from what I always thought I heard said. Maybe its a flaw in my hearing, but when Wash was saying the first time he and Zoe met, I was sure he was in the middle of saying 'frisked' (checking him for weapons) when he got kicked, where the subtitles showed 'threw', which is a quite different interpretation.
At the end Inara's reaction is hilarious! I can her her thoughts "I'm in love with an idiot!" LOL
The way Mal leaves after the "Do you want me to...wash your feet?"" line so perfectly signals: "I can't deal with this."
I love the non-verbal acting on this show.
Oh yeah! That was great
the moment that even Mal goes TILT!
"I knew you let her kiss you." *Walks away smugly* is one of the best comedic twists ever! XD XD XD
😂😂
Inara's expression at the end was beautiful. She's like "I'm in love with an idiot!"
Our "Mrs" Reynolds! Definitely one of my favorites!
Definitely also tricked and surprised and laughing. 😂

This is my favorite Firefly episode. Mal's expressions killed me, he's a great actor.
I think this is my favorite episode in the series, but from here on out they're all great
I always loved this episode, and I love how much you enjoyed this. Very well written, very quotable. Some have even become memes. "My days of not taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle" get a lot of use in online arguments.
Gifs of that scene of Mal looking speechless and walking away got a TON of use on Tumblr as a reaction gif for years. 😆
The good night kiss is probably the best moment to watch reactors in all of Firefly.
I actually went to see other reactions after watching this episode cause I was so curious about how everyone reacted! Haha

I really enjoy your enthusiasm and reactions.

You don't always need action for something to be good.
This might be my favorite episode to watch reactions to. For one, the darned thing is just so funny up to the twist, and then the twist comes as such a surprise to just about everyone. I love when Inna started seeing through Saffron's bs
It's truly one of the most funny episodes of the show. And yes, I guess 99% of first time viewers didn't see the plot coming - even though they put in some little hints up front. But not as much or obvious that most viewers would guessed it right. I didn't.

@14:01 I'm so oblivious in real life, if it were me I would still not get the hint.
💮 Clearly Saffron is Inna's spirit animal. 💚🐍
Yes the funniest episode in Firefly, and one of my favorit episodes 🙂

Hello beautiful kitty Inna
Christina Hendricks was perfect for this role. Can't wait for you to meet YoSaffBridge.
Jayne was right. Vera is miles more worthy.
But...it's the Special Hell for me.

"No Mal you're smarter than this" he's really not...
Nothing against my reliable S&W .22, but I'm hoping to get a rifle someday worthy of the name, Vera.
"Our Mrs. Reynolds": Capt. Malcolm Reynolds is Married!?

Did you take adorable in school or are you a natural?
Let’s be real. Malcolm Reynolds is a good man… but he’s still a man
😂
