Wow - just wow! Great playing and that tone! Just ordered this set of pickups to upgrade a LP knockoff, and also went with Mojotone prewired solderless harness kit that has 500K CTS pots and their own caps.
I have the standard Mojotone '59 Clones in a Gibson LP Tribute that I had redone with 50's wiring and they sound great! Also have some Mojotone Quiet Coil P90's in a gold top LP and a set of Mojotrons in a Gretsch Jet. Great sounding pickups, all of them, and solid quality. Will likely get some Quiet Coil Broadcaster or '52's for a T style I want to upgrade. Can't go wrong with Mojotone, IMO.
Thanks! Great playing and I just ordered these over the other hotter 59 clones. The UA is nice too and I use modeling so it made for a great demo for me. Well done.
Thank you so much! Yeah, I actually had the chance to compare the Low Wind Version with the slightly hotter version. To be honest, I wasn‘t able to hear that much of a difference. But they were fitted in two different guitars, so the comparison lacks anyways. The Lion is great - it sounds pretty much the same as my Mini Plexi. I actually made a comparison video. :-)
This is great. Great playing too. I'm debating getting this set for my Les Paul but I am kind of on the fence between these and the classic Gibson set of the 490r/498t. I love the clarity of these clones.
Thanks! I really don’t like these Gibson pickups. They really lack of dynamic response when it comes to your picking. Absolutely no comparison to the Mojotones.
Yup, they are great for a great price. I really like the fact, that they offer an underwound low output pickup. But a lot of the magic happens in the rest of the electronics. These VIP-pots are amazing.
@@Guitarjosii I have a greco les paul from the 80s, I want to give her a make over. DO you think swapping the bridge would affect the tone a lot? i tried putting a gibson nashville on from another gibson i have, and it seemed a little bit snappier, but when I put the old bridge in it did not feel that worse at all.
@@NicoBellisarioMusic Hard to tell, since I don‘t have experience with Greco LPs. I don‘t know, what the original bridge is made of. Different materials can make a pretty significant difference. And don’t underestimate the role of the stop tail piece, which even can make a bigger difference than the bridge in my experience. But it all depends on the guitar.
Yes, these Mojotone Pickups are great. But try to change the pots first. A lot of the magic happens here. These VIP pots have higher values than regular Gibson pots, so they will sound brighter and more open and airy.
Those pickups sound absolutely beautiful. What capacitor values did you choose for the installation? I have the same set and now I'm installing the harness
That's some sick playing! The pups really do shine with your rig. Thinking about buying them, too. What effects did you use around 7:00? Beautiful ambience.
Thanks, man! Yeah, these pickups are great. I just put a pair of these in an SG too and it sounds great. Make sure to use some pots with values in the 550kOhm range. This will help to archieve some more highs and a nice bite. The effect came from a free reverb plugin called Valhalla. Hope that helps :-)
Thanks man! The guitar belongs to my bro, I just put the pickups and wiring in it. But yes, they are still in there and he is very happy with it‘s sound :-)
So I got a set of these installed in my Eastman SB59 this week, replacing the stock Seymour Duncan 59’s. These pickups seem really hot and not at all what I expected from a low output pickup. I have to keep the volume around 5 or 6 to get a clean sound. Does that sound normal? I have the regular wind Mojotone 59 Clones on a Gibson LP with the same wiring specs and they are not as hot as the low output ones. I didn’t install them so I don’t know what they measure. I will have my tech check them again.
@ It’s fine. I have treble bleeds on both volume pots so I can roll the volume down to about 5 or 6 and not lose any of the tone. That gives me plenty of leeway to turn them up or down. They sound absolutely incredible so I’m quite pleased with them!
@@GuitarjosiiIt’s an Eastman SB59. They come with what I guess would be considered 50’s wiring. They have full size 500k CTS pots and orange drop caps (.022, I believe). All hand soldered. No circuit boards like on the entry level Gibsons. I did have my local tech solder in some treble bleed circuits, which I have installed on quite a few of my other guitars.
@@JAL-cc8jd That's interesting. In my experience, Treble Bleeds can sound difficult in combination with 50's wiring and work best with modern wiring or 60s style wiring. But I prefer a 50s wiring without Treble Bleed mods. You should measure your pot values. For underwound pickups like the Mojotone, I recommend pot values around 540-560kOhm. 500k-CTS are often in the 460kOhm-range because of tolerances. So you will loose alot of treble frequencies 🙂 That's why I love the VIP Pots. You really should check it out, the differences can be HUGE. 🙂
