- Unboxing my latest doll splurge - a NUMBER ONE BARBIE. I have a new collecting obsession for #1 Barbie dolls from 1959. I was fortunate to purchase one this week, and I unbox the doll live on video with you. She is wearing Plantation Belle from 1959. The outfit is missing the shoes and necklace but I will find some for her. When we can fix her hair, we will film a TH-cam video for you. Thank you for tuning in!

Yes,I've been on edge waiting for a doll ! So excited that I couldn't sleep. I absolutely love your Moms Barbie ,it's to die for. I also love your new one. I got Barbie for my tenth birthday in 1960. I loved her so much. I was holding her and jumping rope when the stand fell off and broke. About five years ago I ordered a reproduction Barbie, when I opened it the stand fell out and on the porch but didn't break. I thought that was funny. Good luck with her hair I hope it turns out great. Thank you for sharing this awesome find.

Oh mercy!! I am so stoked for you to have that Barbie! I have one but from my research I think she's a 4 or 5. She has a split neck but she is also my one and only original so I love her. She has blonde hair with the poodle bangs. I enjoy dressing her in any early tagged barbie clothes that I can get my hands on!

What a beautiful doll I used to restore dolls for a guy he had several number ones come through they are extremely beautiful that is for sure I'm so happy you got one my Holy Grail doll was a no bangs Francie I came across the guy on the internet selling Barbie junk he said in the description I couldn't believe he had a no bangs Francie in that pile I got it for $35 I've been collecting Barbies for over 30 years I've never found one that's cheap anywhere they were always price so high so I got my Holy Grail I'm glad you got yours

I'm a bit of a 'hair whisperer' of Vintage Barbie dolls myself. I've always wanted to rescue a #1 with matted, disheveled hair and turn her into a showstopper. I have a #3 and a few #4s and later ponytails, but I've never had a #1 or a #2.
I love the idea of recreating the 'salesman sample' display. That would be a wonderful thing to see. I think the Silkstone #1 repro would be the best substitute for real #1s. The Wedding Day repro doll from 2009 is a pretty good repro as well. The 1993 repro and the early 2000s repros just aren't as authentic to the originals.
One of the other indicators that you have a genuine #1 Barbie and not a counterfeit created from a #3 is the way the hairline is rooted at the temples. It's a very subtle difference, but if you compare #1s and #3s, it's definitely noticeable.

I live outside of Harrisburg, PA. When I was younger there used to be a doll museum in Downtown Harrisburg. I remember them having an original Barbie in a glass case on display. Of course I didn’t understand the value or excitement about it (I didn’t think Barbie was cool or interesting lol). Now that I’m older I have a greater appreciation for small things in the world & I’m happy I got to see one in person. That museum has since closed for quite a few years now.
I totally understand - when I was young, I saw so many amazing dolls and didn’t appreciate them like I would now. Thank you for watching and commenting!

That salesman case is awesome. My first Barbie was a gift. I was given Midge from a neighbor lady. I first saw Barbie from her and she had some lovely blond ones dressed very fashionably. I was glad to find a vintage Midge this year. I have a few newer Barbies acquired within the last couple years but when my mom passed started looking at dolls from my childhood. Keep us posted.

Rachel, Congratulations on finding your #1 Mattel Barbie Doll from 1959:)!! I mostly like the Barbie face molds from the 70s and 80s, but I really LOVE that white Southern Bell dress as much as her original purse and her blonde hair:)!! I also LOVE her blue eyes:)!!! She is stunningly gorgeous:)!! And I think that it is so awesome that your are going to try to get a "Sample Sales case from 1959", even if just reproductions:)!! However, even just to have 5 or so original #1 Mattel Barbies is really wonderful:)!! And Rachel, I so LOVE that red scrunchy in your hair:)!! And those blueberry coffee cakes look really delicious:)!! And anything blueberry is my favorite because blueberries are my favorite fruit:)!! I love your hair - so cute with the overalls . Even though I am male - I can say the future is FEMALE:) I am so excited for your new obsession. Barbie is truly the most collectible doll. I find there is a Barbie for every person. I love all the generations of Barbie . Barbie has had thousands of careers and make overs . I think the fashionista line is amazing for the simple fact that there is a message of inclusion . Different skin tones , vitiligo, prosthetic limbs, short, tall , and curvy body types . There are barbies with smaller busts, and Ken dolls that are wearing makeup and painted fingernails. Sure - the quality isn’t the greatest, but the line is impressive for the diversity.

I just purchased a #3 ponytail bun from a Bay Area Calif. doll show. Maybe a 1 or 2 one day, but I also feel that the American Girl pink skin side part is a gem as well. She is absolutely stunning. A girl needs to treat herself when she is carrying and eating for two, not to be taken literally of course.
I remember this Barbie at the department store where my babysitter sister worked, not sure if it was Henshey, May Co or such but it was in Santa Monica I think in 1961-9. My babysitter daughter, a teen had several not sure if any were 1s or not. But I was allowed to play with them even at age 4. I had a Tammy and Pepper as my mom didn't like Barbie, but my grandpa got me an original Skipper the year she came out.
Now I came across a gaggle of 1960s Barbie, with Midge, Francine, Skipper, Scooter, and Ken, dirty in two cases with clothes and ended up actually looking good once bathed. Can't say what number they are off hand, no 1s though all made in Japan.

I love the #1's and 2's. They're the sexiest of all Barbies. One time I tried to repaint a Silkstone Barbie as a #1. It didn't go over too well, and I had already done her hair. But later when it became available, I bought a 75th Anniversary Silkstone Barbie.
It sounds like you have a special appreciation for the early Barbies, and kudos for attempting that Silkstone repaint! Even if it didn't go as planned, it's all a part of the creative journey. My latest note rest is in Tonner dolls. I am waiting for an 18" red headed doll. My adult daughter and my mother loved dolls. I did as a child but grew out of it. I was more into the fashion of the dolls.Now i want to make high fashion for dolls. Essentially masterpieces, at least I hope so. I want to dress and decorate them like "Demuse" - we will see what happens. I will need wigs, even though my doll is rooted. Now I seem to need a 16" Tonner, etc. Addictions. Mine are not in dolls but in their modelling capacity. I might start off recording about the purchase and reason for my choice. Then unboxing.. Then designing as I go. If it looks good, I might upload it to TH-cam. I got hooked when I saw your visit to the "TONNER MUSEUM" as I call it. I’ve worked around hi-fashion most of my life. I have endless ideas of what I want. I hope to make much of my own delicate fabric as Chanel does.

I started off with a few porcelain dolls, not collected Barbie. My partner does not like dolls. I never had much interest admittedly, however I started to see something and when I told my family they freaked at me. So now I have to keep quiet now and its so sad and I feel some of this has been caused by horror films. I do admit some are scary but obviously majority are not.
