I believe the t-shirt that says “stay golden” is referencing a popular book in the USA called “The Outsiders,” as that’s a popular phrase from the book that many people quote!! :)
The line is referencing the poem “Nothing Gold Can Stay” by Robert Frost. It is the favorite poem of one of the main characters in the book, and he quotes it in the book and accompanying movie. Nature’s first green is gold, Its hardest hue to hold. It’s early bud’s a flower, but only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf, So Eden sank to grief, So dawn turns in to day- Nothing Gold can stay.

I visited Kaikoura and the seal colony there a long time ago back in 2008. I loved it, the seals were amazing and I had the best fish and chips I've even tasted there! I'd love to visit New Zealand again sometime, it was a lifetime ago!
