The power of foley! I found that using Logic Pro is amazing when recording foley at home because you can pull up the video as reference. When recording to a track, each time you re-record, it always saves the previous take as well so you can pick the best moments between takes. Not to mention the massive variety of mixing tools available!
Gold as always Danny. As of late I'm really trying to put as much thought into the sounds of the world I'm capturing as much as I do the sites of what I'm filming. Thanks for keeping us in check!
"from the fresh pine out back" hahahaha! I love your videos, you are one of my biggest inspirations and I learn so much from your videos. Thank you for all you do Danny!
I love love sound fx - I think if I had known what a foley was when I was a kid, I would have done that. Love making sounds that fit the scene - sound scaping a whole vid. Oh that’s just so tasty! These tips are great!!! Thank you!
Thank you for this! Got a project coming up and was considering going to an external audio platform. In reality I can just do it myself with the talent. Saved me some money!
I love this video because i have tried so much to work with sound effects from different sites but they will never give you that great satisfaction. Thank you Danny for always sharing Knowledge
Great video. Scratch audio on set is important, it's the "go by" for where/when to lay in the ADR. But setting aside time to shoot the clean audio in the same environment and location is also great advice I'll start using myself!
Hey Danny, I used to play football like you did, and I’ve been watching ur channel ever since I decided I wanted to be a cinematographer and I can’t thank you enough for all the tips and amazing content you’ve given myself and the other viewers! Thank you!… I Love you too!
DANNY, you should sell your captured audio! High quality onsite audio is impossible to find that matches a scene but you could definitely make some good money and provide great value to filmmakers. Love your stuff!
Hey Danny! It's been awhile! Felt behind about a year on your videos and just caught up on them during my lunch breaks at work. I'm starting to document my journey on my channel starting this year and your channel is that motivation I hopefully need.
A little advice here... Your story narrative skills are dope. I would suggest that you must start podcasts, in which you may share your experience related to your filmmaking journey. I would love to listen that
Amazing! Great stuff brother! I’m always looking for ways to improve audio and getting raw FX from the field. Definitely going to implement this. Blessings bro and thanks for sharing!
I believe you - but it sounds so good - and the footsteps match so well - unbelievable. Having him high step at different paces/cadences was genius. Way to go man. Really nice. Thank you so much for explaining this. It’s the subtle details like this where brilliant creativity can be easily overlooked! Applause…
Dear Danny, I looooove you videos! Thanks so much for all the great inspiration! I heard a little audio problem that I thought I´d point out for you to maybe improve 🙈. There is a pretty strong room resonance at 107 Hz in the room you shot the talking head part in. If you´d like to tame that in your recordings, you could take it out with an EQ using a very narrow cut filter. I thing your audio could really benefit from that 😊. I hope that is helpful! Much love!
@@DannyGevirtz Hey Danny, well that´s odd. I noticed it right away on my headphones when I started your video and checked it in ProTools (where I do my audio post) with an EQ. That´s how I found the 105-120 Hz range du be quite dominant. However, thanks a lot again for all your amazing videos 🙂
As I am sure you are aware of from your experience, some sounds are easier to get than others. This technique seems to have worked well for your context, but may be more difficult to implement on other kinds of sets. Thanks anyway, I've used this method, and as you say, it does work well when it works. regards, dan
Nice one Danny. I always use a lot of sound effects from stock websites and can get really far with that. But never really thought of including sound recording in my production sheets. Should do that for next shoots haha! Thanks for the tips :)
just a random question. Do you record your vlogs at at 1080 and upscale to 4k when rendering? cuz it looks quiet soft, not saying it looks bad. or is it 4k and youtube is really bad?
Really interesting! :) Audio is not talked about enough, and yet it's so important. I would love to learn more about your process for levels, mixing, treatment of the sfx, etc. That's something I would love to learn from you. :) All the best :) !
AAAAAHHHHH!!! You’ve fallen into a situation I see other Talking Head TH-cam’s fall into. Stain or at least oil that wood back there for bolder color texture and such! Drives me wild hahaha. Killer set up though! Looking comfy.
What rode mic are you using Danny? I looked in the description and the mics linked there aren’t the ones you were using to record audio for this running video. It definitely looks like a ride mic on top of your camera but you haven’t mentioned it anywhere. Anybody else know?
Tell the truth Danny, you already knew you were going to do this episode when you were doing the video and set up for this. The B-Roll is too on point for this to be extemporaneous. haha-jk or maybe not jk.
never watched a "film guy" more down to earth and easy to listen to. you're killing it and teaching me so much :)
Haha thank you so much!
I was going to say, he's gonna talk about sound effects, sound effects of course, but actually nope, you recorded those sounds, good job! :)

LOVE IT. The arm sounds? That was something that I could easily have missed the significance of. Thank you for what you do, man.
Thanks Jon!
Definitely good practice to do an audio session while on location. Sound is infinitely important to every production. Great video as always Danny!

great sound effects, how does it compare to hiding a lav mic under his shirt?

I've been using external recorders since 2009. After buying the FX6, I felt like a fool taking off the top handle - it just doesn't fit my workflow!
What mic do you use with the fx3 dude? It’s so clean 🤙🏼
Ntg3b by rode!
What mic is on board the camera setup? TIA

What top handle do you have for FX3???
do you bring someone just for B-roll? awesome video

I always click as soon i see you've aploaded. Have you ever used dead cat on your mic? If yes do you think would change the game even indoor shoot?
