My oneplus 5t has one front and one back and takes great photos that are almost as good as ones taken on my full time sony rx10 mk3 and that thing cost $1500

Agreed with Yamakaja. They didn't buy these for TH-cam, you can be certain of that. They bought these so they could offer the absolute maximum of quality to the paying floatplane club members.
Steamrick maybe, but is it worth it over 4K? In my opinion it probably isn't. Maybe in 10+ years it would be worth while. I do get that they are likely purchasing for quality improvement, maybe just 4K even, but there has to be better priced options for 4K.
and some of the one-man-crew youtubers will still be much better with their production quality then this whole LTT crew with their RED.

I'm genuinely upset at how much all of this costs, and it's not even my money.

The point that is making me mad is that camera like this will be wasted on TH-cam web show. The reason why is that In proper production environment this cost would be nothing(look at end credits of any Hollywood movie)
Here's why: What's the difference between photographers and cinematographers? Photographers own their gear - cinematographers rent it. Because of this - highest tear video cameras are are made in such low volumes, that marks up the price. Even more - there are cinema cameras that are so expensive, that you can't even buy them from manufacturer(like ARRI Alexa 65mm), but only rent from them.
3rdHalf the difference between cinematographers and photographers as one does video and one does still images.
How could that fact possibly make you angry? It is a win for Linus, the cinematographers, and Red. This camera will not be "wasted" because supply-and-demand ensures that Red will make another one.
Yes, I would agree that the Weapon 8k S35 has no benefit to Linus over the Epic-W ($30,000), as the only difference is frame rates at 8k, but the fact that Linus can afford it, and that he wants to own badass film gear is enough to justify his purchase.
It is very clear that you are jealous that Linus can afford this camera and that you can not, but there is no reason to be upset or angry.
I would also like to point out how much it would suck if every amateur on TH-cam could afford a Red. All the videos would look flat and boring because nobody knows how to color-grade RAW footage.
the camera is for movie companies who have bottomless pockets so they charge absurd prices for their product. its like the NVidia quadro graphics cards, they are for big budget companies.

My dad was telling me about the expensive camera equipment he just bought (it was a few thousand) and I sent him a link to one of Red's accessories. He's been doing this a while so he already knew about it, but I can see him having a heart attack if he hadn't known. The camera body is less than half of what you really need to spend to make it work. The lenses and accessories are what make this thing, well, stupid expensive. I'm actually shocked they only spent $160k for 2.

Well 4k is around 8MP and 8K is around 36MP. So big leap there. Yet no one will have a 8k monitor until dell releases theirs. The dynamic range is better and has raw video. That said for TH-cam it is so overkill haha

Just tested a youtube 8k video.. takes about 50% of my 6700K@4,9GHz in Chrome. Also hovered between 60-100Mbit download (on a 300Mbit connection). And why do people believe Quadros are powerful? In terms of power, they are not. They are used by professionals because of guaranteed color precission and so on.. A Geforce will easily eat a Quadro for half the price in terms of power.

Just go rent one they typically can run from $400-$800 a day with a full kit. Also, RED cameras for TH-cam is beyond overkill. It's like nuking an ant with a hydrogen bomb.
I don't understand TH-camrs choosing RED over Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro, Panasonic VariCam LT, Sony F55 or the Canon C700. Most of all those cameras you don't have to use the expensive proprietary crap and it's a third of the cost plus they are all very high quality. Slap on a lens, battery, and media card and you can start shooting. Even with these cameras, it is still kind of overkill for TH-cam.

That LCD panel is the same size as the one on my portable DVD player from 2005, which was kind enough to include a DVD/CD player, battery, charger, audio and video outputs and inputs, and even the cables needed to use it. When it would be less expensive to use an iPad Pro as nothing more than a touchscreen and it would be bigger, just why?

@@wta1518 I mean, as I said, as consumers it's kind of hard to think about spending 950 dollars on a handle because we compare it to consumer products such as iphones or clothes or stuff like that. But when you're comparing this against professional products, red handles don't fall too out of place. For example, RED's main competitor in the movie industry, arri, charges like 1000 dollars DAILY for renting it.
Now all you need is that 1000$ HDMI cable from wire world to make this set complete.

This was my favourite LTT video when it came out and it remains that way. I love how mad Linus is about how unreasonable the prices are.
Linus is quite 'idiot savant' in many ways, like biching about the price AFTER buying the TOTALLY UNNECESSARY RIPOFF $CAM 'products' =)) Here's what a '$mart' manager would say to silly 'requirements' ~>
Claim: "We need to re-frame the video after shooting so need bigger frame size like 4K, 8K, 12K, etc.'
= Answer: "Shoot it right the first time, & if U can't, find a real camera guy 2 do it."
Claim: "Good quality cameras R $uper Expen$ive!"
= Answer: "Check the camera review sites & find something that looks GR8 & is also cheap"
Claim: "We need super powerful computers 2 edit the high res videos!"
= Answer: "Edit it in 720p max because anything over about 1100 pixels wide looks good enough for anybody in the audience & they won't really care about the difference beyond that."
Claim: "We need a giant server 2 store all these big ''original' recordings!"
= Answer: "Download the 720p version off TH-cam in VP9 because that looks better than the the AV1 & MP4 versions they offer, & there's no point keeping something in higher quality than the audience will ever be able to see it on our channel." Etc...

@@AustinPaulson actually the industry standard is avid not premier pro. And my point is it's silly comparing a consumer product to a professional tool. That's like saying oh boy I used to think Mercedes are overpriced but look these F1 cars. They cost over 10 millions dollars and don't even come with AC or a roof.
