Looking back (some 10y after) this Magic Cruise 2012 feels like an important thing in Magic History. I remember following some of these videos back then. I remember the amazing Pro Tour Avacyn Restored with his Miracles deck. This talk by Chapin feels like as inspirational and as filled with wisdom/genius as any other by Steve Jobs or the like.
i have so much respect for patrick chapin he´s not just a very good magic player but also a mentor for alot of new players but also more advanges players
i dont mean to be so offtopic but does anybody know of a method to log back into an instagram account?? I was dumb forgot my account password. I appreciate any help you can offer me!
bottom up means building details and putting them together at the end. top down means building the top module first then making the details accordingly.
I like top-down, front-back, *any position* is fun. It's all good. Seriously though: The fact that you understood what he meant...he wins...his message got through.
te001longli The deck is called "Cawblade". The name comes from Squadron Hawk ("Caw"), a cheap flyer that searches copies of it out of the deck and equipments you put onto the Hawk (Mostly Swords, the "blade"). The deck was really strong, because you had a good aggro plan with the equipments and ways to find them, paired with many control cards.
I don’t quite get his point about being aware of the kind of player you are and what cards your drawn to...he mentions it and then immediately shifts to referring to decks instead of cards. I can understand his point in the context of decks since it’s more of a holistic approach and not playing in a style you don’t like to play in, but if success is your goal then you have to look at what works best with what’s available right? If that means you don’t play the deck because of what cards you’d have to play then don’t play the deck, but don’t play the deck and play a mostly objectively worse version because you’re averse to certain cards.
svennie pennie It's how MtG should work. Ideally, Wizards shouldn't reprint anything, s.t. cards only go up. Given how fairly unpopular Vintage/Legacy is, Wizards ought to reprint some stuff and it also is perfectly normal.
AmarrIndustrial It's good for the people who were already playing, but bad for the people who werent already playing. Formats become way too hard to get into without enough reprints.
would you also expect a video titled "what's happening now in standard" to be about general deck building tips? maybe its good that you lost 50 minutes of your life, if it teaches you a lesson about what titles mean. im sure that knowledge will pay off dividends greater than 50 min in the future.
Its refreshing to hear someone talk without saying "like" in every sentence
Here in 2020. Patrick Chapin you still inspire me sir.
"Now there's not a week before a Grand Prix". This hits hard. 😢
12y later and this still has so many good nuggets of wisdom
I miss when magic was like this!!!!

Premium content for free. Feels good man.
Nice background view. Not very often you get a presentation with that kind of scenery.
The prices flows with the water 😲 everything flows😯 life, air, chapin... wow
is the card prices going at the same speed as the flow of water in the background?
Fantastic insight. 10/10
Really, thanks for posting this. Awesome.

Magic Cruise 2012 is in the title
My exact thoughts
"Another deck-building trap people fall into is land destruction. It's not good anymore. Conley."
What is cabloid for a deck?

GOD YES THIS VIDEO WAS AMAZING, and I'm only 40 seconds in.

I'm watching this in 2021...
Champagne Humphrey speaks much more eloquently than I would have imagined.
How does he talk for this long without ANY notes?
explain to me what you had for breakfast and why? do you need notes? its not a perfect analogy but perhaps you see the point.
Because he wrote a 500 page book about it already lol
commander ed-commander
Timothy Knopf it's EDH
how about former member of R&D to go with all of that =)
$40 buylist on LED lol
I hate the price thing at the bottom of the screen. Just makes me mad.
Why? That's important part of M:tG.
AmarrIndustrial
Probably because some of these cards were really cheap back then, so its annoying to see how much they've gone up in price.

The "meat and potatoes" starts at 21:45. Not that the first part is irrelevant, it isn't...
Mentioning Guillaume Wafo-Tapa made me laugh because of reasons.

It took you 50 minutes to come to that conclusion?

For instance.
Am i drunk or the earth is moving?
It's the magic cruise... and you're probably drunk.
Since we're observing from the cruise, the earth is actually moving
Luiz Bezerra and the earth already moves you just cant feel it
You must be fun at parties.
Yes
Obviously you haven't seen David Ochoa's mustache.
I agree. I would even pay for it if it didn't cost a lot.

What would homosexuality even have to do with your statement?...
top movers writer: it's not Acacyn, Angel of Hope, it's Avacyn, schmuck. There's an entire set named after that angel, get it right.
