Nice video, I think Caerphilly looked better 100 years ago, but I think most of Wales did. Thanks for making and sharing. Nice song choices...the Manics lyric, I look to the future it makes me cry...rings pretty true I think.
Thank you for such an excellent video, I moved to Caerphilly in 2008 and I think this is one of the best places to live in the country. It is fascinating to see the comparison of these places over time, and conversely what a shame it is to see that some nice old buildings have been demolished. Thanks for the drive-thru comparison at the end, this will help my wife understand where these pictures have been taken
thankyou very much...I'm now dreadfully homesick ha ha....miss caerphilly and the valleys a lot....very lucky to have grown up there...great upload...brilliantly put together and the music is also spot on. Regards from Valleyboy in Germany.
Very nostalgic video for me! Thank you for putting it all together. Fantastic job, well done! I lived in Trethomas from 1952 until 1964. Used to spend a lot of time in Caerphilly. Then went to university in Aberystwyth. Now, at the age of 72, I live in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Excellent work buddy! Appreciate the time and effort you've put into this, so nice to see the history of my home town. In some ways it's quite sad to see Caerphilly in it's glory days with all the banners and when it was obviously a busy hub from all the mining money to what it is today. I still love Caerphilly but you can see in this it's lost so much character.
Thank you so much for your great comment Tom, am really chuffed you enjoyed. You are right, our town has changed so much over the years - which was my main aim in making this video. I have also uploaded 2 other Caerphilly videos, recording the changes to the 'Miners Hospital' & 'The Bowls' pub - check them out if you have time. Have also almost finished 2 other videos about Caerphilly's history - will be my last (probably) - the first of these, Caerphilly's 'Pubs & Clubs' (past & present) will be uploaded in the next few weeks. Thank you again buddy
Love this video! Exciting to try and guess what the old pictures are now haha! Wish St Martins school was in it though, I think that was the boys school once upon a time (so I've heard). Well done!
Thanks a lot, I moved to Caerphilly in 66 after leaving school, lived there till 78, with a shortbreak (when I lived in Cardiff) Now living in Newport since 1981. Have u got anything on the Stadium factory and the one opposite (also made helmets), Pontygwindy ind estate, Roundabout caff, the various firm on the estate, Delyn Cartons, AC Daniels, Compact Cases, Hill Industries, etc. First electronics firm on left hand side before Roundabout Caff, it was my first job . Double Diamond, Energlyn Stores, the rd across the bridge before the bypass cut thro it. Caerphilly urban district bus station. Planet Gloves, Trecennydd (?) nr the tunnel. Piccadilly bike shop, Post office and the indoor market by the Twyn, Coop nearby. So much. Its all gone...
Thank you Carys for your lovely comment on my video. Just to let you know that I intend on making a Caerphilly schools video soon so St Martins will definitely be included then!!! In the meantime, I have 3 other videos on TH-cam for you to hopefully enjoy (Caerphilly - Pubs & Clubs, Caerphilly - Miners Hospital & Caerphilly - The Bowls). Plus, will soon be uploading Caerphilly Past & Present part 2! Hope you like, and thanks again for your comment.
Thank you for your comment Andrew - so glad you enjoyed it. Am always tempted by new projects plus I went to school in Bargoed so know the area well and have seen huge changes over the last few years. Have got quite a few videos on the go at the moment so won't have time for a while sorry - but will be in touch. In meantime, I have uploaded videos on Caerphilly's Miners Hospital and The Bowls pub for viewing! Thanks again
I worked at bedwas bodyworks for 5 months in the mid 90s. I got a bit of stick being English as euro 96 was on and we were doing well. All friendly tho, great times with lovely people 👍
Thank you so much mialuk - glad you still enjoy! Have now made 2 other Caerphilly videos - The Bowls & Miners Hospital - check them out when you got time. Cheers
Haven’t long moved here from Pontypridd, and I have to say that it is amazing in comparison. Way more to do here and a better council and much nicer roads and shops. Lovely place.
Excellent video, really enjoyed it, brought back some memories of when I used to visit my Dad in the late 1980's and early 1990's. I was born at the miners. I was actually brought up in Bargoed. I wonder if you could do a video of Bargoed called past and present. I have got video footage of the town from 1994 and 1997 and three books, interested.?
Thank you so very much for your welcome reply, great to hear from you. The video footage I have on Bargoed comes from 1994, 1997, 2002, and 2004 and they're on disc. people will notice the change in the town through the years especially with the regeneration so the video footage I have will be a nice record of how Bargoed town once looked. I look forward to hearing from you again when you have the time of course, best wishes from Andrew.
Thank you for your comment willybizz. Have watched your 'church demolished' video a number of times of the years - nice one for capturing the moment! Plus, enjoyed your Tommy Cooper / Conehead vid!!!
Does anybody watching this video remember or know of a pub called The Angel? Back in the day, when my family owned it, I believe there was also rooms to let for the night upstairs? My family owend it before WWII and shortly thereafter I think. I can't find pix of it on-line or anything. Only know the place thru family stories, but aparently, it was a huge spot for people from Caerphilly to gather.
@@xotbirdox Thanks so much. My mother, who was born on the second floor in 1943, and her sister also in 1945. My great parents both died in the exact rooms they were both born in some years later. My mom actually found a few pix of the place, and even some older images which thrilled her. My family name is CADLE, and they owned it back before and during WWII.
Hi Tyler, have purposely missed out St Martins and many other schools in the 4 Caerphilly videos I've made so far - as I'm planning to do a video just about the history of our town's schools.

The photo of Heol Caer-dydd / Cardiff Road at minute 11:05 captioned as 1930s is specifically 1933 as there is a banner across the road bearing the Welsh words 'Hawddamor Blant yr Urdd' = All the best to the children of the Urdd. The Urdd (for those unacquainted with it, pronounced approximately as 'ear' (rhyming with hear, fear, near, dear with the 'r' at the end pronounced) + th [as in this]'), or in its full form, Urdd Gobaith Cymru, the 'League of Hope of Wales', is the name of the Welsh youth movement. who held their eisteddfod (roughly, a literature and singing festival) in the town in 1933. Lovely! Great to see this town over time. How things change. Lush!
This is fantastic.❤

Great vid. Absolutely shocking how it’s been destroyed
Except for the castle it looks like any town centre throughout the country.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I haven't seen Club camelot since the nights I used to frequent it in 1986/87.
Haha - my pleasure! Thank you Jo for your comment - chuffed you enjoyed the video

iantoglantawe it's a comment section calm down
It was far more classy many years ago. All beautiful buildings have been destroyed and replaced by rubbish. Such a shame.
Pity about the American music for a Welsh town
Catatonia, Manic Street Preachers, Super Furry Animals...where do you think they come from?
I don't know anything about modern musid, but I was wondering about the American accents of the singers?@@windymiller6908
