    Went to navy boot camp in San Diego sum. '63. I always wonder how navy boot camp is done today. Back in mid-1960's I realized it wasn't as tough as marines or army, but the navy has a different purpose than other branches of the military. Anyway, good luck to all recruits in all boot camps in all branches of the mil. services. Now, I'm glad I served, and you will be, too.

    If I could pass my initial prt (the thing the video was about) without working out in the past 3 yrs y’all can do it. Just gotta be willing to push. I graduated as of February first I shave 2:59 off my time through bootcamp but if u r 17-19 u will want to be able to pass with at least a minute to spare

    I’ve never been physically fit. I went in at a 19:08 run time. I left boot camp with 14:30. I had to work on my self every time and I took advantages of being road guard to run more. It’s possible to get better in boot camp but if you come in prepared then you won’t be stressed about passing.

    I beat all odds I guess. I went into boot camp with the promise from my recruiter that I didn't have to be in shape & that they would "build me up". Well that was a big fat lie! I made it & graduated but I HIGHLY recommend that you are doing push ups, sit ups & running on a regular basis before you go into boot camp! Do not go in thinking you will get into shape there or you will be absolutely miserable. They don't build you up over time they BEAT you into shape immediately or else you don't go on. For someone that isn't physically fit it is a HUGE challenge & is extremely hard on your body. Here I am about 13 years later and over the years I've had a lot of issues with my body which I know stemmed from me pushing myself so hard then. Overall I will never regret being in the Navy. It was a great experience that I am very proud of myself over & my kids ask me about it all the time. I am proud to answer their questions. Good luck to everyone that is joining. You can do it!! Honor, courage & commitment, you have those values & you can do anything!!

    I went in, kind of out of shape, had no trouble, and the fat kids we helped along during the run, we all didnt set any records, and all of us looked slow, but it was TEAMWORK and all of us passed the run. When I say kids , we were all mostly 18 to 19. But we all made it with each others help. Ya don't run off and let anybody fail, you're a team. I do suggest getting in a little bit of shape first though, and know how to swim

    I graduated boot camp a couple weeks back if you're going to bootcamp make sure that you can run a mile and a half in 12 minutes, do 46 push-ups in 2 minutes , and hold a plank for 1:46. That is the minimum passing standards for all males under the age of 21. Especially focus on your run because you will not have a lot of time to run in boot camp. You do not want to be the guys from my division who had to call his parents to let them know that he's being set back 5 weeks in training. And in addition to everything else in boot camp you now have to go for about 2 hours of intense physical strength training every night.
    If you have questions about boot camp ask me all the answer to them

    • @Josh_Calderon
      @Josh_Calderon ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bro I can do 34 push ups, 12:37 run, and 1:20 planks and I ship out March 27th. Would you say thats a good starting off point. I'm 27 btw

    • @robertstetson4077
      @robertstetson4077 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Josh_Calderon for your age the run is definitely fine and the push-ups and planks are right on the line but trust me you will have a lot of opportunities to do push-ups before your final assessment comes. When I did the initial physical assessment my plank time was 1:50 and my push-ups was 48 when I did my final assessment I maxed out the plank at 3:26 and did 72 push ups.
      Some advice
      Pay attention
      Do not be first do not be last
      Work as a team
      Remember your RDC are their to help you (they just have a funny way of showing it)
      Get a reusable pair of earplugs (you can put it in your wallet you're allowed to bring that to boot camp) sleeping)
      All watches have to have a black band bring a watch
      When your RTC asked for someone with good handwriting it DO NOT volunteer however if he asked for something to do with laundry volunteer
      Bring your covid card
      Try to get a rack away from the door because the last thing you want to hear at 0330 in the morning is wake up you're shoveling snow it -36 outside
      When you get to O'Hare airport take your time Boot camp starts the second they see you at that airport
      Good luck

    I was quite surprised to see such relaxed requirements for the 1.5 mile run. 16:09 and 18:37 for men and women, respectively? That's basically a leisurely jog for the boys and a brisk walk for the girls. I would have expected something more like 13:00/14:30 at recruit level.

    To all the old timers who say we had it rougher than today I remember navy boot camp in 1982. we did ZERO exercises. all we did was march around and do close order drill. the hardest thing to do was stay awake in the classes we went to because of lack of sleep. the shit was easy as hell but still some people washed out even though the training was designed to try to get everybody to stay in. maybe it was because it was the Zumwalt era that it was like that.

    I’m Enlisting in the US Navy after I graduate this year in the NJROTC Program, I already contacted my recruiter, Ive just turned 17 last month, I’m choosing my job as a Gunners Mates Riverine Machine Gunner, I see that the Navy is stereotyped these days that the Navy is less about war fighting that the Navy is all about Boat water engineers, and it has basically been like that 15 years after the last World War&Korean War, which is not true there are jobs like Navy Seals, Combat Pilot, Missile&Rocket Technicians, Gunners Mates, Riverines, Combat Medic Corpsman, and much more etc etc.

Also it’s not 16 minutes that bs. Depending on your age for example if you are 20-24 you have to pass in 13 minutes and 15 seconds. On your second try you won’t get separated you would get sent back like a week. Remember it’s not always what you think it is.

    If you can't run the 18 for women, you need to talk to them and explain to them why you can't beat that goal. Yes you can get kicked out of boot camp if you are unable to successfully run but there are people that are willing to help with weather it's a mental or physical block. Before I went to boot camp I would train almost every day with my recruiter, I loved and hated that woman but within a year she got me within weight standards body fat standards and physical fitness standards. I made the run by the skin of my teeth but after boot camp I only did the swim I never had to do the run again.

      @kevinjohnson6549 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Ant 3451 on day one you can be out of shape but don’t do that because it will make your boot camp experience 150x harder. Shoot for 50 push ups and 50 curl ups in 2 minutes and run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes and you will have nothing to worry about physically.

      what the guy said earlier is true, the only test that matters for push ups/ curl ups is the final PRT, but the run you need to atleast get that minimum 16 lol. it aint hard for them to make you stronger but getting you to run a quicker time is significantly harder for them because the only time yall run is when you go to freedom hall for PT. as a word of advice when you do go to freedom hall and run give it all you got and dont stop even if youre going to feel like passing out, theres no excuse to fail the prt because ive seen people that were genuinely out of shape or even overweight pass their final prt ( which for males 17-19 would need to be a MINIMUM of 12 minutes)
