    I am Ugandan and you are brutally honest about out airport. Its a source of frustration for all Ugandans as we have a government that is simply incapable of delivering anything without messing it up. Its sad, corruption has made Ugandans distrust thier own airlines and instead fly emirates and other middle eastern airlines to Dubai.

    Much love from 🇺🇬 🇺🇬 🇺🇬 Uganda! Great to have had you visit. The airline is quite young, not sure if we should be having one as a country because it's become a money-guzzling loss-making venture, but there we are. At least the planes are bought brand new, otherwise the airport indeed needs a total overhaul.

I'm very much glad and proud that you enjoyed our service on board. We are only 3 years old, and numbers have actually picked up on that flight into Dubai. I visited Uganda in December, and flew in and out on Uganda Airways, thanks to Noel and Josh's reviews. Dubai to Entebbe in economy on Mt Rwenzori (5X-CRN). I was upgraded on check-in ... never mind, I was downgraded at boarding. My first ever flight to Africa, and it was such a hilarious adventure. :) The flight was absolutely full, but the crew was great under the circumstances - one told me it's very rare to be 100% full. Return flight to Dubai was premium economy, and on 5X-NIL - so I've been on both! Flight not so full and a few empty seats in my cabin. Crew was fabulous - the sort of service I would expect in business class on other airlines. Food was amazing ... and I remember wanting to keep one of the crystal glasses! Some western airlines could learn a thing or two about service from Uganda Airlines.

    Loved this video Noel. I found your channel a couple of weeks ago and have been making my way through your content. As someone who lived in Uganda for 3 years, I can confirm that Entebbe airport is awful, but there is currently a big renovation and extension project underway led by the Chinese. I’m hopeful it will improve things significantly.
    In regard to the airline - I’m pleasantly surprised, however your experience with the crew is nothing less than I’d expect. In my experience the Ugandan people are some of the friendliest in the world, and I’m glad your experience with the crew evidenced that.

    Entebbe reminds me of Nairobi. Multiple security checkpoints including one at the gate. Some people are reassured about it but it concerns me that they lack so much confidence in their security staff that they’ve got to do it 3 or 4 times to be sure.

      There was a TV series about Nairobi airport some years ago and I found it unbelievable what was going on there in what is supposed to be an international airport. Veggies being grown by a local inside the airport perimeter, porters having to pay for the privilege of working at the airport etc. Just blatant corruption.

    • @JonanDBH
      @JonanDBH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The process needs to be streamlined. 2 experienced travelers only note this as an inconvenience because it’s not seen at many other airports in the world. The system and structure should be in place to manage transfer/passenger traffic. Think about it, like this. How much “safer” are you if you have to present and explain the SAME documents 5 times…

    • @sebinamuwanga
      @sebinamuwanga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@JonanDBH Let me start this off with a disclaimer. I am neither a spokesperson for Entebbe International Airport nor one for Uganda Airlines. However, having flown through Entebbe Airport several times, I am in a good position to explain what happens. The first checkpoint before getting to the terminal building is manned by Uganda Police personnel. The police force guards the airport and they mostly search for prohibited items in vehicles and on the person of any occupants in the car. That explains why everyone is asked to leave the vehicle and walk through the scanner. The second checkpoint is manned by Airline/Ministry of Health officials to verify Covid vaccination and PCR test certificates. The third checkpoint is at the entrance to the terminal building. That checkpoint is manned by the Airport operator's security officers who ensure that only travelers (with valid tickets and within the allotted check-in period) are permitted to access the terminal building. Travelers whose check-in time is 2-3 hours away are not allowed to go beyond this point so that the terminal is not overwhelmed with people waiting to check in. The third checkpoint has an x-ray machine to scan passengers' bags (the first checkpoint does not have an x-ray machine to scan passenger bags.)
      The fourth checkpoint is manned by the airline check-in staff whose job is to verify documents (passports, visas, and airline tickets). At this point, passengers with altered passports, inappropriate visas, or whose names as printed in the passport do not match what is printed on the ticket or visa are stopped. Their journey ends here and are either handed over to the authorities or told to go back and apply for appropriate visas or clarify their names as the case may be.
      The fifth checkpoint is the check-in counter and that is self-explanatory.
      The sixth check-point is the immigration stop, which is also self-explanatory.
      The seventh check-point is the pre-boarding security check. It has an x-ray machine and is manned by airport security officials who not only check for prohibited items but also ensure that containers with liquids in excess of 50 ml do not make their way to the aircraft cabin.
      The eighth checkpoint in the preboarding area is manned by airline officials who tear off a part of the boarding pass and also reconfirm the itinerary, especially where the passenger has a connecting flight.
      I have flown through Entebbe several times and this is what happens. As explained, officers at different checkpoints have different responsibilities.
      I have also been to other airports and know that the protocols are different and there may not be as many check/verifying points. What I would like all of you reading this to know is that different states have different ways of assessing threats and putting in place mechanisms to deal with them. I have traveled through airports where because of self-service counters, passengers encounter only immigration and pre-boarding security checks. Entebbe is different and for good reasons, I believe.

    • @JonanDBH
      @JonanDBH 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@sebinamuwanga you are correct that yes every state has different things they’re looking for, but again I rebuttal with this… The process needs to be streamlined, meaning more efficient. 8 checks is not practical nor efficient. You counted 8 checks… Just constructive criticism.

    • @sebinamuwanga
      @sebinamuwanga 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@JonanDBH I forgot to mention one checkpoint which deals specifically with migrant labour.....Ugandans departing for work abroad in the Middle East and Arab world. Officers at that particular checkpoint check to ensure that the migrant workers have the requisite paperwork and approvals. So, Entebbe has a total of 9 checkpoints from the Policemen at the airport entrance to the security officers at the pre-boarding gate.
      Can all this be streamlined? Yes! Before delving into more detail, I would like to hear from other avgeeks and their experiences at their home airports.

Been going to Uganda for fifteen years and it's always been like that. I don't know why they don't let cars drop you off at the entrance - especially after the security check before you enter the grounds! And I've spent many, many hours in that lounge drinking as much Stoney Tangawizi as I could. And that whole thing for everyone to go to the gate and just wait, that happens to everyone on all airlines at EBB. But I do love Uganda.

    Another great video, I would love to see you fly Air Tahiti Nui, in fact, there could be a fun challenge for you as Air Tahiti Nui's fleet consists of only 4 aircraft and maybe you should fly on all 4.

    Thanks for putting EEB on pressure - it’s a nightmare for frequent travelers as myself. Though I must admit its also the friendliest airport I have encountered from emigration officers, check in and lounge all are happy 😊

    Noel and Josh,
    As a longtime subscriber to both of your channels here on
    uTube, I must say this collaboration has been very
    enjoyable and different.
    The banter/interaction between yourselves is a breath of
    fresh air in the crowded area of airline reviews, what one
    of you doesn't capture, the other does! (Well, apart from
    the unpublishable!)
    Long may it continue!!

    EBB has to be one of the worst airports in the world for security / document checks.
    Security check at airport entrance where you MUST leave vehicle.
    Then park far from the terminal entrance and lug all your luggage to terminal building (what’s the point of checking cars at the entrance if you don’t let vehicles drive up to the entrance?!?!).
    Then a document check before you enter terminal building. Then security scan (bags). Now you’re at check-in!
    Then immigration who ask lots of unusual questions you’d expect the airline to ask (such as details if you’re whole trip). Why Uganda immigration cares what you’re going to do in Saigon is beyond me.
    Then another security check at gate. Then yet another document check before boarding.
