I have an inverted triangle body, but I hate the clothes that make me look good.
I love the ones that are good in pear-shaped bodies, but I know I look ugly as hell.
    So I just hide.

Nice video! I naturally have an inverted triangle shape (not because I'm an athlete). I would add this: many models have this body shape; it is the most desired one for models because they frame the clothes well and are very stately on the runway!! Your shoulders are not something to "hide"; rather, you just want to avoid making them appear wider. Halter tops are great because they cut the line of the shoulder, and other body types cannot wear these as well! "V" necklines have the same effect. On bottom, wide skirts and palazzo pants look good because they balance the frame. However, this also depends on the height of your waist - I have a short waist and long legs, so wide, long skirts and pants are great for me. You don't need to only wear long tops. They look good, but consider this: your slender bottom half is an asset! I like to wear shorter, loose tops with skinny jeans or leggings (not cropped, but tops that end just below my waist). This look can be casual or very elegant; either way it looks effortless. Also, tops that highlight your back, as Justine said, because many inverted triangle girls have well-developed arms and back. My girlfriends are also asking how my arms look so lean, but really that is a natural product of my body type! In terms of fitness, if you're looking to "improve" an inverted triangle figure I would suggest focusing extra time on all the abdominal muscles (obliques especially!). I have to focus on this area because it's more difficult for us to keep our waist smaller than our hips, since our hips are narrow to begin with! But this will give you more freedom with your wardrobe!! So flaunt your assets: long and lean on bottom, elegant and stately on top! 😊

sovrappensiero1 oh my gosh thank you! I am not long...I'm short 😝 hehehe...I am into fitness! And obliques are my nemesis! I just feel weak there! Maybe it's a feature of having less length or leverage there? Thanks for the extra motivation to make the best of my shape! I have always LOVED palazzos! Will try! (Luckily my legs proportionally aren't short looking even though I am petite)...I had a realization about wide leg pants and white pants...there's this thing where white pants are always sexy, has anyone noticed? :) :P ANYWAY! Problem is, they can sometimes look TOO sexy and risk not being very tasteful...o realized this is BC people wear white pants too tight. I noticed the best white pant looks I love the most have width in common- it's still always sexy the white pant- but a looser wide leg is my favorite I think it's more sophisticated, looks more 'business-y', great to have the breeziness in a hot summer- painted on pants can get sweaty and uncomfortable. Anyway thanks for the fashion & body con & FITSPO lady! :) 💕✌️

i have a small waist so my hips look bigger than they are so they create the illusion of an hourglass shape which distracts from my wide shoulders. I wear bubble like tops that don't hide my waist. Another recommendation is to wear thick straps if you have wide shoulders or go strapless and highlight the decolletage

Try wearing a waist cincher as I like to, a mini vest type piece that pulls in at the waist or under the bust. The top underneath just gathers in and it looks good with any length! The cowgirl look with a waist tied shirt also works.

I was already nearly 40 years old when I started regaining my fitness, and it took forever! Good luck. All I can say is that for me, I had to make just one small change at a time and to just keep at it.

But this really helped thank you justine

  • @xiomararosado820
    @xiomararosado820 4 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    Inverted triangle here:
I have found that bottoms (skirts and pants) that flair out from the waist and hips do wonders for balancing out shoulders.
I have also found that tops with an empire or waist-hugging features create a waist and hips lol also helping to balance out the upper and lower halves.
Additionally, wearing belts at the waistline, double-wrapped, work really well and create a waist continuing to balance out the upper and lower half of the body.
I try to wear a horizontal pattern on bottom and solids on top, and if solids on top, I make sure to go with vertical to create a long and slender illusion.
    Hope this helps!

Then you can wear tight tops with wide pants. I personally look really good with tight long sleeves BUT only when i wear some gypsy looking pants( like the ones aladdin wear lol) because those kind of pants hide my really skinny legs and make me look more hourshape than inverted triangle. Its literally all about balance.

Petite Inverted Triangle Styling (For ladies (not girls, expect it to be a little bit revealing and daring))
THIS IS REALLY LONG, BEAR WITH ME.
Warning: THIS IS REALLY LONG. I didn't study styling. But through buying clothes online, I started to take interest. For me, it's about doing balance and emphasizing. So, forgive me if my advice doesn't go with your expectations. I think that the measurements should focus on the shoulders, waist, and hips. Colors and prints have an impact too. Even the difference of shades of colors. Also, the formation of prints. How the clothing is also coordinated with each other to build an outfit. For me, the definition of an inverted triangle body is a body that has wide shoulders, small waist and narrow hips. The bust is a minor focus. These measurements are what is obviously seen when looking at a body from a far distance.
These are just advice, help and guide for those who are looking for one. WEAR WHAT YOU WANNA WEAR AND SLAY IT!
The shade of the color has to flatter your skin. Determine your skin type before choosing a color. Just because you are an inverted triangle, doesn't mean dark colors for tops will always look good on you with every shade.
Okay, so starting with the top..
-If you have big bust, wear a top that exposes a little sneak peak of the bust.
Example: Sleeveless V-neck Choker Crop Top (a crop top so that there is way for the high waisted pants, and thick straps to slim the shoulders. Ladies who have big bust usually have wide shoulders)
-If you have small bust, you can be skinny or a little chubby. With visible collar bones. Wear something to show off the collar bones.
Example: Long sleeves Maroon V-neck bodysuit
-If you have bony or skinny shoulders, wear a halter top.
Example: Bondage Halter Top (dark brown)
-If you have chubby shoulders or with a little big muscle, wear a halter strap with thick straps that covers the back with halter as well, or go for the safe look. Sleeveless (muscle tee like) v-necks.
Example: back to back halter top dark blue
For the waist, avoid giant ass belts. Like waist trainers looking ass belts or those belts that are bulky, wide and lengthy. No no no! It will emphasize the inverted triangle shape. We will put balance to it. Use waist trainers when you are at home only and at the gym. Dont wear em out.
    Hips:
Belts like gucci, the small ones are cute already. Get a bling belt (small ones), add pins, etc . Whatever that gives attention to the hips.
For the trousers, well, this ones tricky.
"How am I going to look tall, at the same time, I my lower body to look wide?"
Okay so, this is the deal. For beginners, once bottoms are printed or light colored, tops should be plain to give focus to the bottoms.
    High waisted flare jeans
High waisted Light acid washed jeand
    White jeans
    Printed or colorful pencil skirts
    Peplums skirts
    Tube Jumpsuits with light colour
    Skater skirts
Etc.. you know the drill. High waisted the best if youre shorty
    Shoes should be..
Nude heels (u need this trust me)
    Chunky heels
    Pointed toes (theyre hot okay)
White sneakers (they make u look tall)

Would like to add a little bit about prints and colors and accesories. (I’m petite 4’8 inverted triangle)
First of all... Don’t avoid prints and colors, make them work for you. Be careful with huge prints though, because they can easily emphasize that you’re petite and make you look even smaller in size than you are.
I use printed colorful skirts (tailored pencil skirts, tulip or new-look skirts) to visually enlarge my lower part. The eye is caught by bright colors and they automatically appear slightly bigger than the other parts.
Also, i use prints and textures that create flattering “narrow waist and wider hips” structure: prints that have curved lines, color blocks, textured lines on the knitted fabric etc.
As for accessories, you should try to align the handbag with your hips level, it will work as visual volume booster. Being petite i avoid wearing too large handbags, they make me look like a small kid or a traveller on her way to the airport.

I have a really marked inverted triangle shape: wide shoulders, broad back, big breasts, small hips. I will never wear skinny jeans. A halter top looks fine, but the straps must be wide. V-necks are best; deep scoop necks are good. Boat necks, crew necks, and turtle necks are terrible. Peplums are excellent. Pencil skirts look terrible. Three-quarter sleeve length is good.

I'm tall and was always athletic. One might call it a swimmers body. When I wear tank tops I look for wider straps. I look for tank tops that flare possibly with an empire waist. This applies to summer dresses too. Spaghetti straps look terrible.

Too all my fellow inverted triangles or any body type, your not alone, I have this body type and I been self conscious of my broad shoulders since I was little and got to the point that I would argue with my mom to not be in pictures. I hated having to wear swimsuits that only showed my body more and never wanted to take off my shirt. I’m slowing trying to find clothes that looks good on me and educating myself on my qualities from these videos and so far I’m getting positive results. I stopped wearing skinny jeans which only made my shoulders look wider and do more squats as an attempt for a butt. I want to feel more comfortable and at ease with my body because it’s my own and only have one, so I have to learn to love it everyday. I hope u all find that similar closure for urself too 💖

I feel like I'm some kind of weird combination of rectangle, hourglass, and inverted triangle. My measurements tell me that I'm a rectangle, but my waist dips in too much that I really LOOK too much like a rectangle. My waist looks more like a slight hourglass. But then when I wear some tanktops, my shoulders look super wide and I usually think that my shoulders make me look very awkward. What the heck kind of type am I???

Also my bodycomposition is a mess, like I have muscular shoulders & veiny arms like a man, skinny fat, feminine upperbody and a kinda fat, really curvy lower body.
I think mine is a mix between inverted triangle, pear and hourglass, because I don't really have boobs, I have a teeny-tiny waist, but my hip dips are huge and my shoulders are wide😅
But there's Kibbe, which may help you, I think I'm a Soft Natural/Theatrical Romantic, so I try to experiment with the clothes, which type should I wear and stuff. The problem is, that I really like Dramatic's stuff and cute Gaminish clothes, when feeling confident, I like to wear bodycon and all of that is against my type. 🙄

I feel like that too sometimes, but I kinda made peace with how I look. I also think I was heavily influenced by irrealistic beauty standards growing up, for example in the 80s and 90s the inverted triangle was considered the ideal body type, most supermodels had that figure. Even though we don’t conform to what we see online we can still be cool and have fun with our wide shoulders, that’s how things are, it feels better when you accept it.

I dislike how everyone is trying to hide their shoulders. My shoulders are about 2cm wider than my hips, so technically I am an inverted triangle, but I can easily pass as an hourglass, but I actually LOVE to accentuate my shoulders with puffy sleeves and ruffles and pretty much anything. It makes my waist appear even smaller than it is and creates that 80's/90's Barbie shape that I love. If you really don't feel comfortable, I don't recommend hiding your shoulders, instead accentuate your hips, and you'll get an hourglass silhouette.

I am short and an inverted triangle and i love to wear ‘new-look’ silhouette knee-length skirts and dresses, because they give me the volume around my hips and make me look very feminine, almost like an hourglass.
Tulip dresses and skirts also are very good in terms of balancing the proportions.
I also use basques (tops, dresses with basque, basque belts etc.) to give me the volume from my waist down to my hips. Just make sure the basque is long enough to cover your hip joints, not contrasting color and stiff enough to actually give you the lines you need.
Using some pleats or ruffles can also be a good choice.
When i’m not in a “girlish” mood, i choose to wear A-silhouette mini dresses, like Twiggy wore back in 60s - without any accent on my waist and hips.
Or i can just wear my high-waisted skinny jeans with some loose top - and it also looks fine on me, because i look sporty without trying too hard.

I am an older inverted triangle and I love my wide shoulders which gives my body great structure as I age! We can gain a bit of weight and nobody notices lol. I like to wear A-line skirts and swing dresses because the width at the hemline balances my shoulder width and so I feel I look a bit more feminine. I don’t know about other body shapes, but for me good posture is important. I hope all of you inverted triangles learn to love your shape because when you are my age you will see what I mean!

Hi, Justine. Thanks for making this video. Most of the information in it is spot-on for me. I've noticed for years that long sleeves, V necklines, racerback tops, palazzo pants and maxi-skirts look great on me, and now I know why. The only one of your suggestions that I can't wear is long tunic-style tops, because I'm also petite with short legs, and tunics make my legs look even shorter.

s I'm a mixture of an apple shape and inverted triangle, I like wearing some knitted tops that have a triangle-y shape opening, like somewhat of an upside down V-neck opening that shows some part of my shoulders and neck on the top and goes all the way to the sides where almost my armpits start. I like that opening but sadly it's either the fashion designers don't like that or maybe the time is gone for that type of Blouse neck openings...:) THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR GREAT TIPS! My tips (totally agree with long skirts and wider bottoms) if I find a button-up shirt that fits I can never button it all up anyway but the vertical and v-neck helps, plus any top that can regulate (or well just keep it open) the width on the top part is great (buttons, zippers). Longer necklaces, and big scarves. I love a look of tanktop, casual dress and a scarf puffed around my neck with the triagle facing front. Bigger puffier shorts work well too for me and show off thin legs :)

Great video, Justine!!! I think your advice is spot on about the body types.
When I examine my shape, I find that I can have more of an hourglass body type when I am on the thinner side. When I gain 15 pounds or more, I find that my body shape changes a bit to be more like an inverted triangle. I find that my shoulder area become much more prominent. So, I think I could possibly have a slightly changing body type depending on my weight.
Currently, I am working on losing weight (which I've gained over the years as a consequence of some health issues) and so far I have lost 20 pounds. This weight loss really makes me appear more hourglass, because as I lose the excess weight, my shoulder area also loses weight and it sort of evens out with my hips. I do tend to have a well defined waist (even when I am over weight). My current measurements are 43"/36"/44". At my healthiest and thinnest, they were 35"/25"/36".
I am looking forward to working with my shape the best I can as it changes over the years, as I get older, to accentuate the best angle. One thing I am so looking forward to doing is wearing more dresses and skirts. My personal style is more classic and timeless and I love to look feminine, although I don't particularly look good in clothes that are more tending towards "romantic" as much. I would say I gravitate toward a more structures/tailored classic, elegant and feminine style.
Thank you for all the good information you share. I find it all very good and helpful. :)

I’m square shouldered and a 12/14 in the bust - a size 12 waist and an 8/10 on the bottom. And only 5’2”...so my favorite is a long loose open front cardigan jacket with the pointy front hem (not sure what they’re called)..but it’s swingier at the hips and helps create a longer vertical line when it contrasts with a matching top and skirt.- especially when worn with a high crew or turtle neck and a long A line skirt. Yep, ankle length skirt...2” heels also help a lot!

I really like her videos.. but i always feel that the goal is to never embrace your shape but to aim to be another shape. You can hide all the "imperfections" you have, but the main goal is to always find something that will suit your shape. "This will make you look like an hour glass, that's extremely sexy". I've kept my mouth shut about it cause its a constant thing I see in her videos. I do like her work, it just seems the end goal is to look "feminine" but femininity is fluid. Just my two cents, I was a pear shape and now I am an hour glass. I wanted to see her other videos.. but I can honestly say it makes me cringe. I do think her layout is great, so I give her that.To all my inverted triangle women, you are sexy and feminine :)

    • @mimaesthetic2517
      @mimaesthetic2517 6 ปีที่แล้ว +23

AirFire18 lol I wrote some essay before, but anyway the gist of it is, at the beginning of the video she says this video is for wide shouldered women who think their shoulders look manly and want to look "feminine" before that she says, people may have worked for their wide shoulders and love it so this video is not for those people. the dressing your body type videos are generally for people who think they have enough of a body part and want to emphasise the others. I use to believe people should wear what they want to wear and all this body type nonsense should stop, but funnily enough, I hated how I looked (especially from behind in the changing rooms in H&M) when my shoulders looked especially wide. and i loved some clothes but didnt know why, and I never correlated the "dressing for your body type" to my issue. now I know, so sometimes I balance and sometimes I deliberately do the shoulder thing like Angelina jolie in her example.

    • @AirFire18
      @AirFire18 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

I'm fully aware of wanting to find what may help you with your end goal, however language is the key and in other videos she makes it clear that our shape is the less desirable. Not taking into consideration that a preteen might be watching her video and ruining her self esteem. The reality is, i was a pear shaped.. but i worked out a lot and now i feel better about my body. I realized now my shoulders have moved and thats okay. But, her videos are constant - feminine and masculine quotas and frankly i think the industry needs to bend over and realize that things overlap. Again, she knows her work but i think she could work on her language.

First of all, I love your videos, Justine. I'm not sure about these particular tips though. I am naturally an inverted triangle, and this is accentuated even further by the fact that I am a rock climber. I find that the clothes you mentioned here, which are meant to balance out my proportions, systematically make me look and feel like something I'm not. I admit that I do get fed up with the width of my shoulders, but only because no one seems to make clothes that fit them; beyond that, I think my silhouette ratio actually looks very good: both athletic and feminine. Unfortunately, it has taken me very long to simply embrace my morphology. It's just a shame we don't value this as a feminine shape.

Good on you. And thank you for your post! I’m an inverted triangle, a very boyish figure. I love it. I’m a former dancer. Ballet costumes accentuate wide shoulders, narrow hips, long legs. A style of dress that helps me is long or 3/4 sleeve empire style dresses of tea or full length. I am short and busty so the line of an empire draws attention to my bust, not my shoulders. Also my waist and hips appear less noticeable in difference. Also, in tops, a tunic type with longer, flowing sleeves draws attention away from my shoulders paired with the skirt or pant type as you suggested also works well for me. I do have a question Justine: how do I find tops for business attire that do not give me a blocked or masculine look? Most jackets tend to give my body that look... thank you for your help!

I am an inverted triangle with no waist, short legs and I tend to gain weight mostly on my (inner) thighs so picking clothes is a real struggle. 🙄

I like my shape and don't want to look skinnier or more like an hourglass. All shapes are beautiful.

Fantastic videos!! Perfectly formulated, Perfectly explained 👌. But I still got confused 😕. Couldn't figure out what type I actually am. I guess somewhere between inverted triangle 🔺️ and rectangle type. Is it possible? And Should I keep tips for both body shapes in mind? Thank you so much 💓 💗

Cindy Crawford is an inverted triangle and she wears belts alot and low or mid rise jeans. She also always wears flowy tops tucked in half or so.

Thank you, Justine for all the great videos. I too am an inverted triangle but I am also petite. So...confusing. Please do try to help we petite women with a video.

I'm a V with a long torso, small bust, a defined but not small waist, no hips or butt and shorter, thicker legs. I always LOVE A-line skirts or dresses that hit just above the knee and cinch in at my natural waist but hide the fact that I have slim hips and no butt and hide my thick thighs. I like empire waisted dresses with A lines as well. I can't wear smock styles or loose fitting because I look bigger than I am. I do love loose fitting long sleeve tops that fit at my hips because it tends to balance me out a bit.

i love this video and i am inverted triangle shape but this tips (except racer back and halter top tip) dont work for me because i am short ToT palazo pants just swallow me, and long skirts make me look bad haha. what works for me is showing off my legs (to elongate me) and more flared out skirt with maybe a tighter top :-) also i noticed as inverted triangle i dont gain weight in my butt/hips/legs so thats why i wear short skirts too

Handmade Dokis I have a tip for that. I suggest you to wear a bit more tight-fitting tops. You already wear short skirt so you are close to it! But the "secret" is that you should wear shorts/short skirts that add volume to the hips. For example a bubble or knife pleated skirt (in your case it would be best if it's high-waisted).
