I still get really angry whenever I think that this magnificent series was cut right in its' prime. Perhaps one day series such as these will return and run their full length.
I just binge watched all 12.episodes, and, like you, was appalled all over again at this abrupt end to this series. 😢

What a shame that the ITV company responsible for cutting this does not recognise a fantastic TV series when it is in front of their noses. Instead they choose to serve up mindless drivel in huge doses. One day the powers that be might realise there are viewers who do have a brain and appreciate top quality programmes.
It was probably too traditional and too White, which should never be allowed.

Love this song, even though the lyrics are totally uncomprehensible. Even when I have the lyrics in front of me, I still can't make them out, but, that's okay. Its a haunting, beautiful song, nonetheless. And on another note, I am way beyond pissed that the show was cancelled under the lame reason was that they are trying for a younger audience. We "Old" people need to start an uprising with these tv stations that age discriminate. I can't believe that ITT TV or whatever the pos powers that be in charge, just yanked it off the air with so many cliffhangers going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sick of having shows I like over the years being cancelled because they are too good, can't deal with old people as the main characters, the show is too 'esoteric' or whatever lame excuse they give. I DVRed the last three episodes because I was watching something else at the same time, and when I finally got around this week to watching it, I find out the show has been cancelled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O M G!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dumbasses!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry to cuss, but, this really pisses me off.
Absolutely agree. Cops and robbers are all that is commissioned these days. No brainers. At least we old people have TASTE and adore REAL ACTING. They are children who run the TV stations now. No TASTE or INTELLECT. No wonder people like my family watch NETFLIX not to mention at least a third of a commercial channel programme is given over to all these horrible adverts..... Flash photos and weird adults behaving like 10 year olds..... Sorry I'm glad I am older and born into a more green and pleasant land in the the 1950's...
I don't envy all the new generations to come who will have to clear up the mess made by the whiz kids of the 80's and global warming. I can't see anything on the roads now but huge trucks called 4X4 and they know they are killing the planet! So, it is they who run the TV stations while I listen to Radio 4 and record stuff so I can whizz through the ads thank God.......... Good luck little Swedish girl who have woken up all the 10 -20 year olds who are blaming their parents for muck and spend spend spend.........
Part of the issue is there are essentially two choirs that are tossing lines in two melodies, like a double choir you'd find in works such as Bach's St. Mathew Passion. As such, the diction is really hard to discern. But how pretty is this piece.
No doubt it was actually that a primarily female cast can't be tolerated.

Fate brought me to this comment!! Just started watching Home Fires on streaming but if it is going to end abruptly with cliffhangers and no resolution, I will drop out now!!! Bummer, as I really enjoyed the first episode, and was excited to see where all the ladies’ stories would go…thanks for the heads up, 5 years later! 😂
I don't think I have been this moved by a theme track (or any track) since Ennio Morricone's Gabriel's Oboe, from The Mission. Whatever emotion they hoped to evoke for the Home Fires series, this track has far surpassed it. I can only imagine the first time the actors, directors and producers heard this piece. An epic accomplishment.

This great show is currently playing on Amazon Prime Video... Sadly it only ran 2 seasons.
Apparently the composer deliberately asked the choirists to not use vibrato so it sounded more like the ordinary people in the series singing. Beautiful piece of music.

frances devine is that the reason it was pulled? Bronze Sisters "To Walk Invisible" was filmed in 2016. Haworth is only a small place , but that coped with the disruption.
Richard Towers just watched to walk invisible, amazing. I love the bronte sisters books. Home fires was filmed in a village close to major roads and motorways belief it or not. I love period dramas so I'm watching the Halyson hotel. Blimey I need to get out more.

The fing ITT TV cancelled the show. I heard its because they are trying to reach younger audiences, even though people under the age of 30 were fans of the show, too, and they didn't want to do a show with "older" actresses. Talk about a law suit waiting to happen. Age discrimination.
So many people wrote ITT begging them not to cancel the show and they did it anyway. Ridiculous

This piece is such a truly great accomplishment. I loved Home Fires and was disappointed it was cancelled but I'm not sure any show could be deserving of this song.
