    This piece always fills me with nostalgia almost to the brink of tears. Nostalgia for the series; for John Thaw and other excellent actors who are sadly gone; for the great Barrington Pheloung, who captured the essence of the character in these 3+ minutes and thus composed the best TV score ever written, and nostalgia for the XXth century, which, with all its defects, is where I still belong.

      now I dislike being sappy so I'll most likely deny having typed this but, I have similar feelings about some things and what I can advise for whatever it is worth is, don't think of it as belonging to a different time, think of it as being a surviving peace of that time that exists in the now so that the youngsters can learn a bit about things that have come to pass....

    • @jane1975
      @jane1975 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      AlbertoVO5 You need to get your hands on the original starring the late John Thaw as Morse, just as great, if not better. From the very first episode, Dead of Jericho which was broadcast on Jan 7 th 1987 ( filmed 1986), and Morse saying to Lewis “ I’m a different kettle of fish, Lewis “ - viewers knew they were on a winner with this series. A lot of great con stars also: Patrick Troughton, Gemma Jones, Sir Michael Hordern, Gwen Taylor, Patricia Hodge to name but a few. Although sometimes Endeavor connects some of its plot lines with the original series, it isn’t a patch on the original format. So I do highly recommend getting the original on DVD.

I picked up Colin Dexter's Morse and I'd been there four hours and kicked out. I read all the way home on the bus. Dexter has a unique style of making the mundane exciting. Plus making Morse a drunk, lecherous antihero. John Thaw was a genious choice for the live action.
    You got the sense he had gone through the wringer. Lewis was his sounding board.

      @@Marklovesdrama Exactly. The only downside of Endeavour is that the actor who plays him looks nothing like John Thaw did at that age (you can see him in old episodes of the 60s crime series 'Redcap'). Of course that doesn't really matter as he's playing Morse, not John Thaw, but it would have been nice if there was more of a resemblance.

    • @NyanPoptartCat
      @NyanPoptartCat 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

The unfortunate thing is that there are enough intellectually challenged individuals tuning in to this muck to convince the producers that they can get away with it. You will notice that all these programmes have one thing in common - Crying!. The evidence is there: Bake a cake; someone ends up crying. Refurbish a house; someone ends up crying. Lose weight: someone ends up crying. Talent show; someone ends up crying, Go on a date; someone ends up crying, etc. etc. ....................

    Such a legendary piece of music!
    I just saw the first episode of Endeavour Series 7, and at the end of the credits, they dedicated the episode to Barrington Pheloung. I didn't know he had passed - what a horrible shock! I've loved the music that he made for Morse, Lewis, and Endeavour for more than 30 years now - and he was only 65! How sad for his family, his friends, and all of us, who just loved to soak in his music every time one of those shows appeared on TV!

Then I met Morse and that was the ultimatum, I went with my wife and daughter, even I recreate Morse’s heart attack in Exeter College, my daughter taped me that.
