EDIT: My bike was an early USA model... and details were still being sorted out. A few things that Moto Morini clarified for me post-production. Front suspension travel is 6.9 inches, not 6.3. Rear is 6.5, not 5.6. Weight is actually 514, not 520. Rear preload is adjustable without shock removal. They also pointed out that due to the closed cartridge forks, making some adjustments with compression clickers will make more difference that expected and can help with the bottoming. An old name on new Chinese junk. Why not just buy a CB500X? Then you have all the Honda reliability, QUALITY CONTROL, and you will be guaranteed to have parts availability for decades to come. Who knows if they're going to make this bike next year let alone provide parts for it. Looks like an expensive way to learn a hard lesson.
We bought one last September as a travel bike for my wife, we did a few trips all over Europe ( two bikes, Morini and Norden). The bike has almost 17000kms on the clock....no worries till now... actually only one .... Adjust lights .. My wife loves the bike
Hello, thanks for this video. I can confirm that here in Europe the bike is for sale since almost 2 years and has proven to be very reliable. The added warranty granted to USA customers will cover you. No issues there. It is great value for money and the low end torque is fantastic. Weak point is the weight (wish it was 10kg/22 lbs lighter) but in daily life this is not a huge issue.
Thanks, Ian, for doing a review of the Xcape. I've been really interested in them, so it's nice to see some reviews coming out. I demoed one recently at OC Motorcycle in Orange County, CA, one of the few Morini dealers. Coming from a 2008 Vstrom 650, I felt that the power delivery of the Xcape was a noticeably lacking in comparison. But, I was impressed in many of the same areas you mention in the video. Two other things I noticed the day I rode it. First, after I rode it, another fella, who was obviously a new-rider, dropped the Xcape in the parking lot. When I say "drop" it was more of a crash at about 15-20 mph, as in the back wheel got up above the rest of the bike, almost completely flipped. That particular bike had all the factory options, crash bars, hand guards, cases, and so on. Upon inspecting the bike afterward, we noticed that for as hard a hit the bike took, there was only a single scuff on the hard plastic corner of one of the cases and the crash bar had a nearly imperceptible bend in it. The bike was completely fine otherwise. The other thing I came away with that day also had to do with the same new-rider. Turns out that he dropped one of the other Morini bikes, a Seiemmezzo STR, while demoing it alone and didn't tell anyone. After he brought it back and the next person tried to take it out for a spin, there was a check-engine light and error code on the dash, and if I recall, it prevented the bike from starting, the code couldn't be simply cleared, or something to that effect. Either way, a mechanic took it into the shop and figured out that it had been dropped. Of course, they told the new-rider that he couldn't test any of the other bikes and he left. But, the key takeaway is that both the Xcape and STR held up admirably in "real world," general commuter conditions aside from the error code in the STR that didn't pop up in the Xcape, that I was aware of at least. Though, because the Xcape and STR are nearly identical (according to the Morini rep) aside from fairings, seat, and wheels, I'm wondering if you got this same error code when the "wind dropped" the bike, Ian. I'll say, lastly, that the STR/SCR models are WAY more fun in terms of power-delivery on-road than the Xcape, likely due to how much less they weigh. Sorry for the long comment, here, but perhaps others might appreciate knowing about the drops and error-code issue. And, Ian, I'd love to see the phone connection / navigation demoed in your longer review. Thank you, brutha, for all the great work you do!
I was at the same demo day! Enjoyed the two smaller street bikes, didn't ride the ADV bike. Once they figure out the fueling and get a little more interesting engine they'll be a force. What a dipshit crashing two bikes though, damn.
The only advantage I can see is to get the Japanese off their butts and develop new bikes. The Kawasaki Versys 650 at $8899, 65 hp. 482 lbs, the Suzuki V Strom 650 $9200, 70 hp 470 Lbs. and Let’s not forget the KLR for $5899. With current discount with 40hp and 460lbs. I just don’t see the benefit of this bike.
I agree. Whether you like them or not, they’re actually making some interesting bikes. The Japanese are totally asleep at the wheel at the moment and China will jump in to fill the gaps.
It's more fun to ride a slow bike fast than a fast bike slow. I've been waiting for this bike. Bit of a bummer that the bouncy bits don't have extra bounce room, but they knocked the asthetics out of the park. I'd commute on it.
The only good thing about the CCP bike is that it may keep the competitor's price down. I personally will not buy a CCP bike regardless of price/quality.

In my opinion everyone should try to reduce being dependent on Chinese products as much as possible. It’s almost impossible but buying 100%!a Chinese product isn’t the best thing to do right now 🤷🏻♂️
The problem with Chinese bikes is every year they come up with completely different bike, design and discontinue to produce the bike they produced only couple of years ago. On top of that, they stop providing spare parts for discontinued models and people trying to find parts from different brands and try to use on these bikes. We don't see these drastic changes on reliable brands. When they come up with a new design, they keep providing spare parts for older models.
Exactly. GPX is famous for that. I lucked out with a good Kayo dealer who backed his warranty, but after realizing that I sold the bike soon after before something else minor broke making it a paperweight
Updating the product more frequently is a good thing in my opinion. When a brand keeps soldiering on with the same bike with the only change being bold new graphics, that's just laziness. I also wouldn't generalize about "all" Chinese manufacturers not supplying parts for previous generations of bikes. If a brand has factory owned distribution in the country, it's likely they know the commitment required to support their brand. If the bike is sold through an independent distributor, that's when have some doubts.
Ktm shifted some of their middleweight production to China in 2020, multiple Hondas are made in China, the list goes on. The unfortunate reality today is it's hard to not get stuff that was made in China that's also affordable.
The bike itself is not so bad, I sold it mainly because of horrible experience with my dealer and warranty issues. I learned my lesson and moved to established brand to save my sanity :-). It is designed in Italy, but it is basically a copy of a copy (it is based on CFMOTO650MT which is based on 1st gen Kawasaki ER/Versys), manufactured in China. People tend to be scared by that China part, but personally I think the more scary is actually the Italian part.
I really like the look of this bike. I have a 2022 KLR now and just did the MABDR. This looks like a possible replacement. My only complaint with the KLR is the vibrations. Power has never been an issue for me with the KLR. I just hate to start over with add--ons. Skid plate, seat, crash bars, fog lights etc... since moving out of southern WV we don't ride dirt very much now its riding paved back roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Good looking, sensibly priced. Ian, you are an excellent rider and like to go fast offroad. Just remember that 1) some of us don't have your ability and, 2) don't care about going fast offroad, and this would be just fine. I ride a T7 and realize that the only limitation is me. Thank you so much for another excellent review, I'd bet that I'm not alone in my curiosity of the Morini.
Also for anyone that is curious, this bike is a CFMOTO 650MT (adventura in NA) with spoked wheels and better brakes and suspension. If the CFmoto is the 'road' version of this bike this is the 'off-road' (in a loose sense) version of that same platform. What makes it confusing to anyone that doesn't know is the styling is different.
I agree 100%....as a former CFMoto dealer in Texas, they were very, VERY poorly made and the assembly was even worse. So unless they have changed things around on the assembly line and made quality control a priority, I would NEVER consider ANYTHING made by CFMoto.....if someone gave one to me, I'd sell it before even putting fuel in it and go buy a 500X Honda, take the 2K grand left over and put some decent suspension and tires on the 500X and have a FAR superior bike, one that won't leave me stranded 75 miles from nowhere....
@@NoSkillzMoto I haven't had any problems with my 2017 650nk, ride it every day. What happened with your bike? I've had 3 now and only the 2014 had issues, but sorted now and it works fine. None of them has ever let me down
@@chrispekel5709 Poor fit and finish the fairings were terrible. Engine heat was insane. Electronics were just going on it. Kick stand switch, fuel tank sensor, main fuse blew, bad wind buffeting. List is long
Went today to a dealer to see the bike and verry impressed about the quality / price deal ( and more ).....but for me there is a huge problem !! Moto Morini do not give you the possibility to put a central stand...most of the bike there is just the side stand but you can buy the central stand from the dealer or other...on the x cape no central stand period....too bad but I really do need a central stand
Ian I like the Moto Morini better than the CFMoto for it's style and smoothness of the engine. How can you beat it for the money? I know my Mannequin could have trouble lifting it but, he gets blown around easy in the wind too. Great review! 👍👍 Ride SAFE and BE safe!
I live in Spain and bought it, 6,000km so far and is pretty reliable, perfect pricing and great Italian components with Chinese pricing. 3 year guarantee is pretty cool. I changed the front sprocket for one more teeth and behaves great.
Styling is great. Might consider for a commuter but that's it. Not opposed to a Chinese bike if the price and features are good. So far that only seems to be CF Moto. But ultimately it's the pressure they put on the other manufactures to build better bikes.
Almost got one but went with a Himalayan as more dealers (quicker for parts) as I learn/get experience. I'd say the xcape is more of a tourer than adv.. P.s Its a lot of bike (the xcape) for the £££ I think. Most owners are very positive about it so far..(Uk owners).
Pretty heavy and it seems to be a street bike dressed up like an ADV one. I don't think it's very suitable as an ADV bike. As you said, a street commuter or something like that would be fine.
I’ve never ridden a motorcycle before, but want to get one next year after I get my motorcycle license. The part about this that makes me really reluctant about this bike is dealer support. If it was truly European or possibly Japanese the people at work would be a little more accepting of me riding it. They all have Harley’s. This seems like a fairly decent bike though. Safe travels.
Take a Japanese bike, medium size. It's very unlikely that the bike you buy will last, you will change taste, want something different, understand you need a particular tool etc. You can see those things only when you ride. Take something bulletproof also to sell. Take something used with less than 10000km. Like Suzuki Vstrom 650. Or a honda cb500x. Or a tracer. From there you see your path in motorcycle.
The Chinese (Italian) seem ,inadvertantley, to be moving in to the overlanding market. These Italian bikes with 'generic' motors woud be good for a lot of travellers.
The engine is identical to the Kawasaki 650, which is as reliable an engine as you can get at that size. As for parts if you're struggling just buy the Kawasaki Verseys 650 parts & you're good to go. The Chinese bikes are improving at a staggering rate. I'll put my house on it. Within 5 years from now, they'll be selling us great products. There's a few very decent Chinese bikes now. Gladly Im not interested in lying politicians BS fantasy stories. Which don't border on racism. They are totally racist. A good friend of mine is a buyer for one of the oldest & biggest retailers in the UK. He spends at least 4 months a year over in China. He just laughs at the BS spoken about China. He always says, you'll find every single one of these people talking BS about China, has never set foot in the country. He says they're miles ahead of us in so many areas which makes the copying everything crap as exactly that total crap. How can someone be more developed in an area if they copied? He is always going on about their cars & I've asked him to see what he find out about their bikes. But he's not really interested in bikes & doesn't know what to look for. I will say I've heard nothing but positives about the Kove rally & the Beneli 502 gets a lot of praise. Would love to try the Kove rally out. But they're like rocky horse shit at the minute. They sell out soon as they arrive here.
It seems like a nice road bike. For a person that lives in an urban centre, and does the odd longer trip, and just wants a nice looking motorcycle that’s something different. Would I count on it in the backcountry or as an all weather commuter? Maybe not yet. But this and the Ibex you recently reviewed really have my attention lately, as someone with some interest in coming down from the full beams 1200 class adv bikes to something middleweight, simpler, more economical.
Interesting to see your take on this bike, which aligns with most of the UK ones I've watched here. From them, seems like you'll start to notice the limitations of just 60 HP and the torque, once you strap on racks and boxes (as a solo rider), but especially if you try that with a passenger as well.
I have a V-Strom 650, we just have some 67 hp. If you know how to use the gearbox, 67 hp goes a long way in the twisties. 650 advs aren't for winning straight line races.
So you posed various questions around "would you buy it" and for me, it boils down to about 4 key points. I am NOT into the offroad side of Adventure bikes but I own two because my commute 9 months out of the year on paved roads that often has potholes that could make your BDR routes cringe. 1) Do I have a dealer within one hour tow of where I live? 2) Can I ride a significant portion of the US with no gap in dealers greater than 200 miles? 3) If no to either of the above, will they ship me warranty parts to my house/far flung hotel room on my assessment and agreement of their service advisor over the phone within 48 hours? 4) If no to all of the above...do I have enough other bikes currently running (looks in driveway...4 currently running) to gable on a no-return-on-investment-resale motorcycle? Literally what I just described with 2 and 3 (plus a bit of 4) is buying from CSC...manufacturer also Zongshen. So I would pose it back to you, why wouldI buy this with no established dealer network now instead of waiting for the CSC RX6?
Years ago rode a friends Versys 650, always thought it might be the basis for a slightly adventure bike- just the weird mess of underslung muffer/headers put me off ( difficult to add aftermarket muffler.) I see the Morini has the same problem.
I do like the bike. Kind of looking to go a little bigger than my X300. Being from China is a concern, but I think that the closest dealer being over a hundred miles away is a bigger concern. Also, heading east from the Washington coast, I don’t come to a dealer until I get to Minneapolis. Long way to a dealer for repairs on a cross country trip. I will probably go look atleast.
it costs almost 10000€ here so the base transalp at 11000€ seems a much better option. and you can actually get parts and servicing a LOT easier for a honda,
You didn't show us you drop the motorcycle you cut your video and next shot its on the ground how will we know the motorcycle drop is real and a plastic engine guard? Nice quality. But lets give it a chance and see how well it performs in the long run after munching up some miles.
In Argentina this bike has Brembo front and rear ,front Marzocchi suspension fully adjustable. Left and right adjustable levers. Pirelli scorpions tyres. There are many paying it in advance ,and waiting about a month to receive their new ones. That bike has serious stuff in side.
Aluminum engine covers are sold as an option. Rear suspension is kind of soft . The handlebars controls are retroiluminated. And CF Moto has a joint venture with KTM. So the 650 engine is uded in many cf moto models allredy in sale for more then 5 years.
CF-MOTO is bullet proof, in NZ they are very common, especially in the farming sector here. Realistically you get very little extra on a V-strom (i own one) and pay a bunch more. I'm buying a CF-MOTO 800MT for my next bike. Chinese make good bikes and cars now, being in NZ we are at the Arse end of the world and things cost a fortune to get here so I'm very happy for the indian and chinese options. Just hope we dont end up in a war with trade sanctions and be unable to service my bike is all.😮
Great review Ian! It's great to see a nice looking bike that doesn't break the bank. Sure, may not excel at all things, but sometimes good enough is, good enough. I was one of those guys a year ago " hard pass" on Chinese. But seeing this bike, and seeing positive reviews out of Europe, I am now ready to buy one. Only problem, not for sale in Canada....eagerly awaiting.
In terms of reliability, i have 2 cfmoto bikes that use this engine and frame. One is a 2014 the other is a 2017. The 2014 had some dodgy electrics which were rectified with the later models. I have fixed it all and it has been very reliable. The 2017 has has zero problems. Considering its mostly rhe same bike and likely uses the same bosch electricals I would imagine reliability should be fine

I ride a Husky TR650 Strada and agree wholeheartedly that the 60 hp mid size bike is a lot of fun. I still pull this out and ride it in preference to my KTM 1290 Super Adventure when riding around town.
This is my third bike, I tried to drive of at my house while the bike was still attached on the shed with a chain, yes I dropped it(at 1mph) , yes I'm ashamed. Still loving this bike, very fun an fast enough to not loose my license
Pretty sure a lot of this is all the same as the CF moto bikes. Even the start up on the TFT looks the same. If the engine and frame are also the same it should be as reliable as those, which are pretty good (although the early models back in 2012 did have build quality issues like failing ECU's on every bike)
The other problem with bikes like this, is lack of if aftermarket support. How easy is it to get upgrades for one of these, compared to a T7 or KTM 890?
I am not ready to buy an Italian MC, I am not ready to buy a Chinese manufactured MC. BUT all, newcomers and competitors help to keep the market prices lower and force the bigger guys to keep features and functions work in top order. More competitors in the market means more riders on the road, that is good for us all.
This bike seems really nice for the $$ and believe it preforms great for what it is. Although if you ever sell it it will prove to be more expensive to own than the brands, we all know, depreciation is gonna murder you on this bike. Wait a year and look for a used one at a very appreciated price.

Seems like it’s a better Versys 650. :-). Speaking of Versys 650s, I had one for about ten years. While it was a great bike the engine in the thing was the most bland, soulless engine I’ve ever twisted a throttle on. Like I said I had it for ten years and just never rode it. I think maybe I put 32,000 miles on it. I’d never buy another one in other words. LOL
I rode this exact bike that Ian had on loan (future video spoiler). I couldn't have said it better. Feels like a slightly better Versys 650 (and I own one) but it has better looks. The engine was the same bland lump but gets the job done. Not exciting at all. That's always been my biggest Versys complaint. Complete middle of the road competence. I must say, the build quality felt damn good - Japanese like, and a hell of a lot better than the KTM I own or a Pan America.
Really looks like a interesting bike. For the price, I could step out of my 500x and into this without much financial pain. I think I always ask you, but what's the MPG like on this bike?
Kind of getting full with the Ibex 800 and the CFMoto Adventura 650. I am still waiting for an inexpensive 450lb adventure bike with decent tech and an exciting engine.
Very interesting!! I'm an older dude and remember Moto Morini and Benelli back in the 70's as exotic brands. I'm not sure I would trust a brand acquisition model from China though.
There are always lots of nice used Versys 650s in my area. I would go that way instead. Can always upgrade the tires. Dealer network, reputation, knowing they’ll be around next year.

I've been waiting for this bike. Bit of a bummer that the bouncy bits don't have extra bounce room, but they knocked the asthetics out of the park. I'd commute on it.
At some point, Chinese bikes will become quality competitive with Japanese bikes, but that day is not today.
The only good thing about the CCP bike is that it may keep the competitor's price down.
I personally will not buy a CCP bike regardless of price/quality.

Without dealer support, I'd have a hard time taking this over a proven Versys 650 or a CB500X
Its a cfmoto 650nk frame and engine, so I'd assume all their servicing parts fit - for the engine at least

In my opinion everyone should try to reduce being dependent on Chinese products as much as possible. It’s almost impossible but buying 100%!a Chinese product isn’t the best thing to do right now 🤷🏻♂️
That's great and all but I just don't think you understand the shear scale of the numbers driving the economics.
The problem with Chinese bikes is every year they come up with completely different bike, design and discontinue to produce the bike they produced only couple of years ago. On top of that, they stop providing spare parts for discontinued models and people trying to find parts from different brands and try to use on these bikes. We don't see these drastic changes on reliable brands. When they come up with a new design, they keep providing spare parts for older models.
Exactly. GPX is famous for that. I lucked out with a good Kayo dealer who backed his warranty, but after realizing that I sold the bike soon after before something else minor broke making it a paperweight
Updating the product more frequently is a good thing in my opinion. When a brand keeps soldiering on with the same bike with the only change being bold new graphics, that's just laziness. I also wouldn't generalize about "all" Chinese manufacturers not supplying parts for previous generations of bikes. If a brand has factory owned distribution in the country, it's likely they know the commitment required to support their brand. If the bike is sold through an independent distributor, that's when have some doubts.

Ktm shifted some of their middleweight production to China in 2020, multiple Hondas are made in China, the list goes on.
The unfortunate reality today is it's hard to not get stuff that was made in China that's also affordable.

The bike itself is not so bad, I sold it mainly because of horrible experience with my dealer and warranty issues. I learned my lesson and moved to established brand to save my sanity :-). It is designed in Italy, but it is basically a copy of a copy (it is based on CFMOTO650MT which is based on 1st gen Kawasaki ER/Versys), manufactured in China. People tend to be scared by that China part, but personally I think the more scary is actually the Italian part.
What issues happened with the bike before you sold ? I like the ugly looks of this

It's unfortunate they didn't get the Vstrom engine, sticking with the v twin.
I really like the look of this bike. I have a 2022 KLR now and just did the MABDR. This looks like a possible replacement. My only complaint with the KLR is the vibrations. Power has never been an issue for me with the KLR. I just hate to start over with add--ons. Skid plate, seat, crash bars, fog lights etc... since moving out of southern WV we don't ride dirt very much now its riding paved back roads and the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Good looking, sensibly priced. Ian, you are an excellent rider and like to go fast offroad. Just remember that 1) some of us don't have your ability and, 2) don't care about going fast offroad, and this would be just fine. I ride a T7 and realize that the only limitation is me. Thank you so much for another excellent review, I'd bet that I'm not alone in my curiosity of the Morini.
Also for anyone that is curious, this bike is a CFMOTO 650MT (adventura in NA) with spoked wheels and better brakes and suspension. If the CFmoto is the 'road' version of this bike this is the 'off-road' (in a loose sense) version of that same platform. What makes it confusing to anyone that doesn't know is the styling is different.
As a former owner of the MT650.. RUN RUN FAR AWAY.
I agree 100%....as a former CFMoto dealer in Texas, they were very, VERY poorly made and the assembly was even worse. So unless they have changed things around on the assembly line and made quality control a priority, I would NEVER consider ANYTHING made by CFMoto.....if someone gave one to me, I'd sell it before even putting fuel in it and go buy a 500X Honda, take the 2K grand left over and put some decent suspension and tires on the 500X and have a FAR superior bike, one that won't leave me stranded 75 miles from nowhere....

@@chrispekel5709 Poor fit and finish the fairings were terrible. Engine heat was insane. Electronics were just going on it. Kick stand switch, fuel tank sensor, main fuse blew, bad wind buffeting. List is long
Went today to a dealer to see the bike and verry impressed about the quality / price deal ( and more ).....but for me there is a huge problem !! Moto Morini do not give you the possibility to put a central stand...most of the bike there is just the side stand but you can buy the central stand from the dealer or other...on the x cape no central stand period....too bad but I really do need a central stand
It adds nothing new or better. Just the same boring crap that has been around for a long time with lower price and lower quality I guess.

I like the Moto Morini better than the CFMoto for it's style and smoothness of the engine. How can you beat it for the money? I know my Mannequin could have trouble lifting it but, he gets blown around easy in the wind too.

I live in Spain and bought it, 6,000km so far and is pretty reliable, perfect pricing and great Italian components with Chinese pricing. 3 year guarantee is pretty cool. I changed the front sprocket for one more teeth and behaves great.
One more sprocket in front ? I was tend to go one less sprocket in front so it pulls beter , why did u go bigger front sprocket ?

Styling is great. Might consider for a commuter but that's it. Not opposed to a Chinese bike if the price and features are good. So far that only seems to be CF Moto. But ultimately it's the pressure they put on the other manufactures to build better bikes.
This is a CFmoto frame and engine, same as their 650 models
Almost got one but went with a Himalayan as more dealers (quicker for parts) as I learn/get experience. I'd say the xcape is more of a tourer than adv..
P.s Its a lot of bike (the xcape) for the £££ I think. Most owners are very positive about it so far..(Uk owners).
Pretty heavy and it seems to be a street bike dressed up like an ADV one. I don't think it's very suitable as an ADV bike. As you said, a street commuter or something like that would be fine.
I’ve never ridden a motorcycle before, but want to get one next year after I get my motorcycle license. The part about this that makes me really reluctant about this bike is dealer support. If it was truly European or possibly Japanese the people at work would be a little more accepting of me riding it. They all have Harley’s. This seems like a fairly decent bike though. Safe travels.
Do not get a 230kg bike as your first bike!
Take a Japanese bike, medium size. It's very unlikely that the bike you buy will last, you will change taste, want something different, understand you need a particular tool etc. You can see those things only when you ride. Take something bulletproof also to sell. Take something used with less than 10000km. Like Suzuki Vstrom 650. Or a honda cb500x. Or a tracer. From there you see your path in motorcycle.
The Chinese (Italian) seem ,inadvertantley, to be moving in to the overlanding market. These Italian bikes with 'generic' motors woud be good for a lot of travellers.
The engine is identical to the Kawasaki 650, which is as reliable an engine as you can get at that size. As for parts if you're struggling just buy the Kawasaki Verseys 650 parts & you're good to go. The Chinese bikes are improving at a staggering rate. I'll put my house on it. Within 5 years from now, they'll be selling us great products. There's a few very decent Chinese bikes now. Gladly Im not interested in lying politicians BS fantasy stories. Which don't border on racism. They are totally racist. A good friend of mine is a buyer for one of the oldest & biggest retailers in the UK. He spends at least 4 months a year over in China. He just laughs at the BS spoken about China. He always says, you'll find every single one of these people talking BS about China, has never set foot in the country. He says they're miles ahead of us in so many areas which makes the copying everything crap as exactly that total crap. How can someone be more developed in an area if they copied? He is always going on about their cars & I've asked him to see what he find out about their bikes. But he's not really interested in bikes & doesn't know what to look for. I will say I've heard nothing but positives about the Kove rally & the Beneli 502 gets a lot of praise. Would love to try the Kove rally out. But they're like rocky horse shit at the minute. They sell out soon as they arrive here.
It seems like a nice road bike. For a person that lives in an urban centre, and does the odd longer trip, and just wants a nice looking motorcycle that’s something different. Would I count on it in the backcountry or as an all weather commuter? Maybe not yet. But this and the Ibex you recently reviewed really have my attention lately, as someone with some interest in coming down from the full beams 1200 class adv bikes to something middleweight, simpler, more economical.
Interesting to see your take on this bike, which aligns with most of the UK ones I've watched here. From them, seems like you'll start to notice the limitations of just 60 HP and the torque, once you strap on racks and boxes (as a solo rider), but especially if you try that with a passenger as well.
I have a V-Strom 650, we just have some 67 hp. If you know how to use the gearbox, 67 hp goes a long way in the twisties. 650 advs aren't for winning straight line races.
So you posed various questions around "would you buy it" and for me, it boils down to about 4 key points. I am NOT into the offroad side of Adventure bikes but I own two because my commute 9 months out of the year on paved roads that often has potholes that could make your BDR routes cringe.
1) Do I have a dealer within one hour tow of where I live?
2) Can I ride a significant portion of the US with no gap in dealers greater than 200 miles?
3) If no to either of the above, will they ship me warranty parts to my house/far flung hotel room on my assessment and agreement of their service advisor over the phone within 48 hours?
4) If no to all of the above...do I have enough other bikes currently running (looks in driveway...4 currently running) to gable on a no-return-on-investment-resale motorcycle?
Literally what I just described with 2 and 3 (plus a bit of 4) is buying from CSC...manufacturer also Zongshen.
So I would pose it back to you, why wouldI buy this with no established dealer network now instead of waiting for the CSC RX6?

Years ago rode a friends Versys 650, always thought it might be the basis for a slightly adventure bike- just the weird mess of underslung muffer/headers put me off ( difficult to add aftermarket muffler.)
I see the Morini has the same problem.

I do like the bike. Kind of looking to go a little bigger than my X300. Being from China is a concern, but I think that the closest dealer being over a hundred miles away is a bigger concern. Also, heading east from the Washington coast, I don’t come to a dealer until I get to Minneapolis. Long way to a dealer for repairs on a cross country trip. I will probably go look atleast.
it costs almost 10000€ here so the base transalp at 11000€ seems a much better option. and you can actually get parts and servicing a LOT easier for a honda,
You didn't show us you drop the motorcycle you cut your video and next shot its on the ground how will we know the motorcycle drop is real and a plastic engine guard? Nice quality. But lets give it a chance and see how well it performs in the long run after munching up some miles.
In Argentina this bike has Brembo front and rear ,front Marzocchi suspension fully adjustable. Left and right adjustable levers. Pirelli scorpions tyres. There are many paying it in advance ,and waiting about a month to receive their new ones. That bike has serious stuff in side.
Aluminum engine covers are sold as an option. Rear suspension is kind of soft . The handlebars controls are retroiluminated. And CF Moto has a joint venture with KTM. So the 650 engine is uded in many cf moto models allredy in sale for more then 5 years.

Give china bikes a year or two. They will have consistency.
CF-MOTO is bullet proof, in NZ they are very common, especially in the farming sector here.
Realistically you get very little extra on a V-strom (i own one) and pay a bunch more.
I'm buying a CF-MOTO 800MT for my next bike.
Chinese make good bikes and cars now, being in NZ we are at the Arse end of the world and things cost a fortune to get here so I'm very happy for the indian and chinese options.
Just hope we dont end up in a war with trade sanctions and be unable to service my bike is all.😮

Sure, may not excel at all things, but sometimes good enough is, good enough. I was one of those guys a year ago " hard pass" on Chinese. But seeing this bike, and seeing positive reviews out of Europe, I am now ready to buy one. Only problem, not for sale in Canada....eagerly awaiting.
In terms of reliability, i have 2 cfmoto bikes that use this engine and frame. One is a 2014 the other is a 2017. The 2014 had some dodgy electrics which were rectified with the later models. I have fixed it all and it has been very reliable. The 2017 has has zero problems.
Considering its mostly rhe same bike and likely uses the same bosch electricals I would imagine reliability should be fine
How did that right footpeg mount feel? Pretty horrible unless I tuck my heels inside the mount. Maybe someone will make aftermarket peg mounts

I ride a Husky TR650 Strada and agree wholeheartedly that the 60 hp mid size bike is a lot of fun. I still pull this out and ride it in preference to my KTM 1290 Super Adventure when riding around town.
Maybe a good buy for the occasional day tripper.... No serious or even moderate ADV'er would consider it.
This is my third bike, I tried to drive of at my house while the bike was still attached on the shed with a chain, yes I dropped it(at 1mph) , yes I'm ashamed. Still loving this bike, very fun an fast enough to not loose my license
Pretty sure a lot of this is all the same as the CF moto bikes. Even the start up on the TFT looks the same. If the engine and frame are also the same it should be as reliable as those, which are pretty good (although the early models back in 2012 did have build quality issues like failing ECU's on every bike)

The other problem with bikes like this, is lack of if aftermarket support. How easy is it to get upgrades for one of these, compared to a T7 or KTM 890?
I am not ready to buy an Italian MC, I am not ready to buy a Chinese manufactured MC. BUT all, newcomers and competitors help to keep the market prices lower and force the bigger guys to keep features and functions work in top order. More competitors in the market means more riders on the road, that is good for us all.

This bike seems really nice for the $$ and believe it preforms great for what it is. Although if you ever sell it it will prove to be more expensive to own than the brands, we all know, depreciation is gonna murder you on this bike. Wait a year and look for a used one at a very appreciated price.

Seems like it’s a better Versys 650. :-). Speaking of Versys 650s, I had one for about ten years. While it was a great bike the engine in the thing was the most bland, soulless engine I’ve ever twisted a throttle on. Like I said I had it for ten years and just never rode it. I think maybe I put 32,000 miles on it. I’d never buy another one in other words. LOL
I rode this exact bike that Ian had on loan (future video spoiler). I couldn't have said it better. Feels like a slightly better Versys 650 (and I own one) but it has better looks. The engine was the same bland lump but gets the job done. Not exciting at all. That's always been my biggest Versys complaint. Complete middle of the road competence. I must say, the build quality felt damn good - Japanese like, and a hell of a lot better than the KTM I own or a Pan America.

There are always lots of nice used Versys 650s in my area. I would go that way instead. Can always upgrade the tires. Dealer network, reputation, knowing they’ll be around next year.
