He has a solid vocal technique, knows what he needs to do to keep his voice working well, and with that basis, there should be no reason why he cannot keep singing up to his standard into old age, in most cases. For a singer with sound technique, singing well at 50 or 60 should be no problem. Even better, because by then with all the experience you‘ve gone through in all the years of touring and recording, you know your instrument so well.

I was really hoping she was gonna fully crack the code - she was so close...they treat it like there are three vocalists and they push their harmonies appropriately. That first bit in the chorus where that half or quarter tone pops out, it's being pushed from the bottom - Myles stays static and gets out of the way while Mark pushes their third player up from the bottom. Mark does the same in a few more bars - Mark drops down and Myles puts the secondary tones into a push to pop out their mystery friend again.
I did a few years in a barbershop quartet chasing overtones so this one kind of stood out to me.
They've been working together so long, they both get out of not only each other's way but out of the way of the thing they're creating, which is even MORE rare.

For sure, in the chorus, you'll notice if you listen to this as often as i have lol, that Myles stays on his line... the overtone in "into the light may you fall," (the first time) Mark is the one that goes UP in his harmony... Then .. on the second time when they sing "Into the light may you KNOW" ... ON the work, 'KNOW' -- Mark GOES DOWN, so that he can match the harmony with Myles in the "Truth alone" lyric, where they have a little bit of matching vocal acrobatics ... truely a master class of harmony ... and not easy to replicate... it took me a few tries to get mark's part right without "searching" for the right note. love it.
and interesting note... what made this performance so special, was that they never played this song live because of what occurs at the end. Myles had a lot of trepidation about not being able to hold the note like he did on the record... but the band finally persuaded him to do it for this performance.... HE DID NOT DISAPPOINT. AND Mark's look for total pride in myles, with that smirk after the note.. is gold. almost like he was thinking "I knew he could do it all along!"

@@nightsgrow6575 Myles didn't single out the high note as solely why he was apprehensive in performing it. He's a perfectionist by nature (I suffer the same personality trait...it is rewarding and a curse simultaneously). It was the totality of getting so many nuances and timing down, especially since it's a duet and an orchestra behind it. To add to his anxiety, they had never performed it live, so no real world practice with crowd reaction performing it...and so to do it the first time, for THIS concert...he had a ton of anxiety prepping for it. At the sound checks for this show, he kept complaining it wasn't ready yet. Mark kept reassuring him it was good.

I remember back when I heard that they were doing a concert with an orquestra and I was really excited. Unfortunately I could only watch it from my computer, and when I was finally able to find a full version to download, I watched it on repeat non-stop. Such an amazing concert, and such a great video. Congrats

Just saw them on their current tour and Myles and Mark were in TOP form. Mark got the spotlight for a song on "Burn It Down" and it was flawless. Truly one of the top hard rock acts out there today - both vocally and instrumentally. The other thing I noticed was that their sound system was one of the best I have ever heard and the mix was perfection. You never lost the vocals in the mix and everything instrumentally was right up front. One of the better live shows I have ever seen. Unfortunately they did not do this song, but they have rarely performed this live (if ever) other than this performance from the Royal Albert Hall.

Mark Tremonti is the reason I picked up a guitar for the first time more than 20 years ago. When he started singing I was blown away, and he’s one of my favourite singers now too.
I just saw then for the first time in Boston in February and I was 15 feet away from the stage. Best night of my life.

I'm so happy I got to see them live for the first time this past month! Alter Bridge is easily one of my favorite bands ever. Myles is one of the best singers of our time I believe. Mark and Myles are just such nice people too. I think it's funny they both consider themselves guitar players first but they are both so incredibly talented beyond just the guitar.

I'm gonna say this now, as someone who absolutely loves Alter Bridge and tries their damndest to sing anything Myles Kennedy, this is one of the songs that'll show you whether or not you can sing like him.
This, Blackbird, and Far and Away (Slash & Myles) are in that tier of skill/difficulty.

    OH FUCK YES.
Edit: 15:59 That's literally my single favourite part of the song. Everyone is all about the high note at the end. But I just LOVE how Myle's voice flows after the first verse in that bit. In the studio version he actually doesn't sing any lines there like he improvises here. What he actually does is just vocalize "Oooh"'s and "Ahhh"'s. But the way he sounds is just.... so relaxing....

I just saw them live the other night on April 1st and as usual they were amazing. Words darker than their wings has been one of my favorite songs for years. I find it interesting that for whatever reason they didn't put it into their setlist until just a few years ago. Of course, that is mainly due to fans like myself and others writing them in an attempt to cajole them to play it live. For a while, it really seemed like a lost song in their catalog. Songs like this is why they have been my favorite band since 2004.
I actually stumbled upon this channel by accident a few weeks ago and I find myself steadily watching it. I love how animated and excited she gets when she hears something like this. Her passion for music is beyond obvious and it is a true sign of someone that really loves what they do.

@@kathleenandbruce You're correct, it was a great show. However, it was a special night for me and my GF. Growing up as a Kansas farm girl, she is really more of a country music devotee. To that end, we really alternate styles when buying concert tickets. One show we will go see a country band and then the next time we'll do either hard rock or metal for myself. She got the tickets for that night as a Christmas present for me. She knows that AB is my favorite band but, until she saw them live with me I don't think she really understood it. To the point, she really got into it and rocked out. She even went into tears when miles performed watch over you.
I'm glad you had a good time at the show that night. We see concerts at that venue all the time. They have such a wide variety of acts. In fact, a few weeks later I took her to see Zac Brown band there. I wish I would have known who you are. I would have stopped by and give you a fist bump.👍

Elizabeth doing a Tremonti song (I know she’s done the Sinatra stuff) would be incredible to see. The usual picks would be Dust, Take You With Me, or Let That Be Us. But there’s a track called In One Piece, off his most recent album that she would be blown away by. He hits some notes in that that I had no idea he could hit!

100% agree with your assessment. Dark but enchanting. This band doesn’t get the attention they deserve. The musicianship of Mark and Myles is off the charts. I think part of their “challenge” is that they make really difficult vocal stylings sound too easy so it’s not noticed by most. They are a “musicians band” IMHO. Awe and admiration abounds from me. (…and greetings to you, Elizabeth, from a fellow WHS choir grad)

Excellent reaction! In my opinion, their harmonies have been the unsung hero of this band from the very first album. Especially when they drift into call-and-response elements. There's a ton of musicianship among these four band members. Thanks!

I love the backing vocals Mark provides in the performance. It adds so much to the already perfect melody Myles is singing. I'm currently taking singing lessons and studying Myles solo single "Love Can Only Heal" and man, it is so much more impressive to learn how good Myles actually is and how high his range expands. I'm so glad you analysed this performance ❤️

I've been waiting for you to get to this! I spammed the comments with everyone else. Such a great performance! The message of the song is great. It's based off of a real conversation between Myles and Mark about the existence of God. I love how they both sing their parts of the conversation. Then when they sing together it's almost like a compromise. Mark is trying to comfort Myles through the song and give hope. Myles doesn't believe and Mark does. The lyrical conversation is really special!
