I’m 69 in February. I got 10 / 10. The problem with list like the Rolling Stone top 250 guitarists ever or the top ten best ever rock anthems or the top ten most influential riffs or who sang these songs is that the quiz or list is actually being written by someone who is younger than the shoes I wear. I don’t think that these music quizzes you post are that hard. Question masters and crossword compilers are extremely smart people who are absolute experts in their fields. I have about 59 years of life experience listening to music, memo in the UK radio stations and Pirate Radio Stations were hugely popular with the younger generation to get out music the staid BBC music stations wouldn’t play. Plus there was no internet so our gang would meet possibly ever 3-4 weeks on a Sunday at someone’s house where we would bring our latest allowance vinyl purchased to the meet up and we would all listen to each other’s music together. This way you might hear electric blues, or Delta blues or Pop or rock and roll or skiffle or classical music or any genre that one of your friends liked. We learned and discussed the music together and why we loved it. Sometimes it was all great other times less so. We NEVER swapped our vinyl records as they damaged very easily. However any musical fanzines we would share around and learn about up and coming artists. US and Uk Forces radio stations were great at putting out some great music. As was Radio Luxembourg and the BBC World Service plus of course the Radio Free America. Some of these stations we actually listened to on the new small Transistors Radios with 30 feet of copper wire attached to the antenna for better reception or if you couldn’t afford a transistors radio it was simple to build your own Crystal Radio Set using the crystal plus the inner cardboard tube from a toilet roll with thin strand copper wires wound round this cardboard tube and stuck down using airfix model plane glue as a tuning rheostat and the other end using a wire with a small blob of solder on a shaped wooden popsicle stick and a single earpiece to hear the late night radio waves. No volume control it was very faint sound but was easy for young enquiring ears to hear late at night under your bedsheet with your 30-90 feet of antenna wire out your bedroom window and strung across all the highest trees and non metallic points. This is why at 69 I appreciate music so much. It was difficult to obtain and you were obsessed with the sounds of the globe. Later shortwave radio became cheaper and more reliable. My generation of the 65 -85 years old appreciate music more than today’s youth with their limited knowledge of music. Later we were richer financially and the CD revolution was the saviour for all the deleted vinyl recordings (the greed of the music industry) being re-released by the greedy industry meant that we didn’t have to hunt down rare and very expensive music as it was on CD - even secondhand CDs you had a potential for getting lost music cheaper and with possibly no damage on the CD except for the shellac crackles that were on the masters.
@ you’re welcome, older you are the more relevance you have to share - view it as “free experiential education”. Alternatively just say, “hey old man you seem to be inebriated with the exuhberance of your own verbosity”! I’m happy at 69 to accept both alternatives 🤣🤣🥰👍🤟
