- I’m restoring a Seiko dress watch with a date indicator from the 1970s. The reference number is 7005-2000.
The watch is severely damaged. A lot of parts are missing.
I bought the watch on eBay long ago for parts and have never opened it before.
I thought it is maybe possible to give it a second life. So here we are. Let's see what we can do.

This is a lovely watch. It looks larger than the other Seiko's of its time. The empty case looked very delicate but classy. You made the restoration look effortless, truly skilled and a pleasure to watch.

I assume the case was solid stainless? It's amazing what can be done if you don't have to worry about sanding through plating.

The magic here is experience and understanding the functionality of the watch movement.
This is exactly why there are tens of thousands of old Seikos left to rot.
Their restored values are a fraction of the expense of their restorations.
The challenge to bring something back to life is the fun part. Not the value.

@@MagicWatchmaking, but the same work could be performed on an Omega or a Rolex and the watch would be both restored and more valuable. That is why my Omegas all run and the Seikos lie unmolested in a shoe box.

I really enjoy your videos and I’m amazed you can put it all back together. That you can do it in about an hour is really cool! All jokes aside, how long does it take for you to disassemble, clean and reassemble a watch?
Disassemble and reassemble an standard automatic movement is 20 - 30 minutes. Automatic cleaning procedure is one hour. Not including any work on case or bracelet.
Making a video with good view on what I do is totally different story. It take me at least a couple of days. Different camera setup in different locations.

From the time you made the video until now, this may be the “dirtiest” watch that I have never seen. But with your hands it becomes Beautiful…And this is also the Watch Brand that I have Favored the most since I started wearing watches in 1978 because they were cheap and convenient…until they were damaged and abandoned without regret. 😀
I think the Seiko Diver I restored in past is more disgusting. Seiko watches are the best ☺️
What a great looking watch! Beautiful work! Im a fan on Seikos myself of all different models. Im curious, was the case and back polished originally or was parts of it grained or brushed originally? Personally I really like them polished like yours but i have seen them brushed before as well.
