I was there. My friend and I were in the second row at the show in San Jose. We could see that Allen Ginsburg was in the front row, center taping the show. I always wondered what became of the tape recording. Thanks for bringing back an important part of my life.
I just wanted to say that I'm 25 years old and I discovered Dylan almost a year ago, the first song I heard was Mr Tambourine Man and in that moment I fell in love with Bob Dylan's music, now I have more than 100 songs and I'm looking for more, I agree with everyone who says that he is the Shakespeare of our time because that's completely true. This year has been really hard for me and the shelter from all this problems is music, so thanks a lot Swinging Pig, this is fantastic! I can imagine myself in this concert listening to this thanks to you, keep up with your great work! Greetings from Venezuela
So glad for you that you discovered Dylan. I am 74 years old and discovered him when I was 17. My life was opened like a flower. I’m sorry for your hardship.
I’m 27 and discovered Dylan 1 year ago after listening to Mr Tambourine Man (Newport) and I fell in love. I thought this was something I commented for a second until I saw the username lol.
So grateful that Ginsberg donated these tapes - he gets a pretty bad rap in the comments. People should not get caught up in artists' worldly antics and just concentrate on the art. He wrote brilliant poetry that continues to influence and inspire (including Dylan in a BIG way). As I understand it, Dylan actually gave Ginsberg the money to buy the tape recorder being used here; I think I hear Dylan say "Oh so this is what you got?" at the very beginning of the tape. Ginsberg eventually took the recorder with him to Kansas and orally dictated his "Wichita Vortex Sutra" poem, which has been more recently released with musical accompaniment. Thanks Swingin' Pig!
Brian Schroth Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks a lot for the info, that’s fascinating. And I definitely agree with you. There is a time and place to disapprove of Ginsberg’s life choices and I don’t think you should do it while enjoying something he made for you.

Thanks for this. I don’t know how many of his shows were actually taped, but never heard one before. It brings all the joy of him back. His acoustic driving locomotive guitar, the sad melancholy of his harmonica, along side the no words for narly soul voice and the audacity of him singing some of his most difficult, poetic songs, you can feel the energy being spent and no one knows why the troubadour sings for us. Cries the heart.
