    Enjoyed your video, mostly due to your honesty of working in the cold and hate for your door pannels. I must agreee. Good job guy.

    That big black apparatus on the factory speaker is an amplifier.

    The reason your new speaker sounded bad, is the infinity amp only produces mid to low tones. It tries to rely on the pillar tweeter for highs

  • @yoman258
    @yoman258 12 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That thing attached is an amp. Some dodges use individual amps to power their speakers.

  • @Zachari94
    @Zachari94 12 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The thing piece you are calling a 'filter' is actually an amp. rams with the infinity sound system have those amps on the front speakers and yes the front speakers are 6x9 and I think the rear door speakers for extended cabs are 5.25 inch. I would check to make sure though about the rears.

    As dumb as it might be, I ended up using a zip tie to attach the amp to the speaker. It ended up working out.

    The fronts are 6x9's and the rear are 5.25". You can actually put two 5.25"'s in each rear panel. There is already holes cut for them. All you have to do is drill the holes for the screws.

  • @snysnd
    @snysnd 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Peter, no one except Radio Shack has made 8 ohm car speakers since the 70s. Even if it was 8 ohm, that would simply cut the power by a half, dropping the volume SLIGHTLY. (Also reducing amp heat by 1/2.) What DOES need to be done is fabricate an additional heatsink, because the amp used the magnet structure for its heatsink. Incidently, often the signal to the amp input from the radio was speaker level, so you may be able to connect the new speaker directly to those leads. Most Chrysler radios were high level output. I know; I fixed car stereo for 35 years.

    • @akashtalon
      @akashtalon 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The issue is that the imepdence is completely off between 4 ohm and 8 ohm speakers. The better option is to bypass those shitty amps all together.

    Still work fine but as I said in the video I thing that dual cone air gap will shorten it's life in a dusty environment. As of right now they work 100%. Maybe it isn't an issue after all?

    HI, I appreciate the video. However after watching about 100 of these videos, and talking with stereo install, and dodge, it seems like the wiring diagram for the stock amp on the front door speakers (99 ram 1500) is somewhat of national security. No one knows, or wants to say. I bought the truck and one of the amps are cut out. So I'm replacing the door speakers. However I need to find the wiring diagram for the 12 or so wires that feed that speaker amp so I can bypass it. ?? thanks

    Ok, so this question is for the "professional" installers. I have this same speaker, only where the one in the video is black, mine is white. I have a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan
    ES with an Infinity system. The OEM stereo powers on, but not a single speaker produces sound. It would only make sense in my head that there is a factory amplifier hidden somewhere or these units attached to the speakers are individual amplifiers or are they as mentioned in so many words, crossovers. The speaker I pulled out, I tested the speaker itself, checks good. Under the hood, relay and fuse are both good. I went to autozone and they called a hotline or something that says my model year does not have a factory amplifier. It is obvious that the wires behind the radio have been altered, but appear to have been returned to their previous state. There has to be a single unit or something somewhere for none of the speakers to work at all...the person on the phone says no amplifier, but it makes more sense that there would be and that it was just left unplugged from whomever had a system in it once before? I'm at a total loss here!!! SOMEBODY please help me lol :-)

    I decided to up grade my stereo to a 220 watt sony explode and since to amps on the front doors are only 30 watts max i by passed them since the stereo puts out 55 watts per speaker i found the blue and yellow are positive one is the positive from the stereo and the other is the positive to the tweeter the brown and the orange are the negative one is the negative from the stereo and the other is the negative to the tweeter the violet and the green are the positive and negative that power the amp

    If you didn't do your research on to what that part was on the speaker that you thought was a filter was a standalone amp for that single speaker, congrats you probably have the infinity stock sound system. I replace the door speakers in my 2002 2500 and don't have the premium sound system so its just standard 6x9 with the Chrysler logo on it no amps.

    Those plastic things on the backs of the old speakers are amplifiers, they are for the factory Infinity system.

  • @peterwhite3137
    @peterwhite3137 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The box on the side of the speaker is a factory amplifier. What is not commonly know is the Chrysler Infinity amplified speakers have a 4 ohm impedance. The after market speakers you bought have an 8 ohm impedance. By cobbling a system together like this will result in a very poor sounding system. Your best bet is to hit a bone yard or a dealer for factory speakers......or bite the bullet and replace the whole system. Hodge-podging it like this will result in you being very disappointed.

      I just got a 2001 dodge ram and the passenger speaker doesn't work, was thinking of just hitting up walmart for some cheap speaker(hopefully by a decent name brand like pioneer or something), to be honest I don't even know if these speakers are stock that are already in it, I doubt it, they're red and black with sort of gold wires coming out the front sides much like the silver ones in this vid. I already called the junkyards here and they don't have any parts I need, as long as the speaker works period and sounds alright I'm fine, I'm not a big audiophile, just going to play downloaded mp3's anyway, not some high quality FLAC audio or anything...a big plus for me is the truck doesn't have any inside door panels period lmao....I really don't feel like paying 100+ bucks each online for both door panels...also need a dashboard but 300 bucks for a piece of plastic is ridiculous, I'll throw a cheap ebay cover over it. There's definitely diminishing returns regarding blowing alot of money on any old vehicle period, I'd rather put that 500+ bucks into fixing any mechanical problems that arise rather than plastic parts for the interior...I think the current speakers inside both doors are just cheap Boss speakers, the driver's one sounds good enough for me though.

    • @Foxtechconsultants
      @Foxtechconsultants 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not that big of a deal. What he should've done is removed the factory "amp" mounted on the stock speakers and wired them up directly, but you'd need to look up color codes for the wires so you get it right - there's a bunch of videos on here covering that. Audio quality would be impacted more by the head unit rather than the nice speakers he bought to replace the poopy factory ones. :)

      The Infinity are not that bad. The problem is that when the amp goes, the speaker won't work. Those Pioneer are not the best replacements.
