  • The Kubota ZD 1211 is an awesome machine. I highly recommend it if you have a large yard that needs constant mowing.
    Few things I forgot to mention.. The deck is made out of super thick heavy duty steel, not stamped sheet metal like cheaper mowers. The blades are heavy duty as well. Don't have to worry about sticks (not branches) and smaller rocks. Fuel economy is pretty good too. Also, the controls are very light and responsive.
    If you enjoyed the vid please leave a like and hit the subscribe button if you want to see more mowing vids.
    Here's how to adjust the deck rollers. Also learn how to lock up the front axle pivot. • Kubota ZD1211 72" Deck...
    Thanks for watching!

    One of my lawyers was bragging about his new $19,000.00 Kubota zero turn mower. I just retired financially secure for the next 150 years and bought a 10 year old JD Z-225 non-commercial series with a blown engine for $300.00. After install of new engine and tires I'm at under 1500.00 into it. I like my mower more lol.

      In 2009 I saw an ad on Craigslist for a 1992 Grasshopper diesel zero turn. I thought it was fake, turns out it was real. Seller was asking $650, deck had a bad gearbox but mower came with spare parts and spare used gearbox. I got it for $625, made 1 good gearbox out of 2, and it's been running, mowing, and sipping diesel fuel (uses half the fuel of a gasoline engine) ever since (14 years and counting). I like my mower even better than yours, and WAY more than your lawyers.

    I've got a zd323 at my work, 9 years, 2,000 hours, and was heavily neglected, like no oil changes for at least a 3 year stretch, nevermind grease. What an incredible machine. It's the only machine we've ever had long enough to have to replace the rear tires due to wear. Kubota engines seem to be one of the only quality motors still in production, they'll take anything you can throw at them, then laugh in your face about it.

    Received ZD1211RL-3-72 this past May and love it. Not cheap but it works great for my 11 acres. Powerful, sips diesel, fast, no more crap blowing back on me, smoother ride, has a real radiator. Had a ZG227a-54 for 8 years. This is light years superior. Also have the hitch kit for my Craftsman wagon and fertilizer.

No movement means increase of pain and decrease in energy. Next to my work outs I like to swim a lot; free of injuries :) And did you know taking cold baths/showers help you lose weight? I bought one new in July. I only have 20 hrs on mine so far but this thing is a BEAST! Mine is exactly like yours, cushion seat, 72" cut. I just broke a spindle guard on my last mow on my farm, hit something really hard. I used the jack up system to get under it on the deck and it was awesome! So easy to get underneath the deck. Very powerful. It used to take me 4-5 hrs to mow my HUGE lawn with my JD X320 48" cut or my Kubota TG1860 diesel 54" cut. They are both great mowers, but my new ZD does it in 1 hour! I used to spend 2 days on my 83 hp massey ferguson with 6ft bush hog mowing around my poultry houses (bout 10 acres) this 1211 knocks it out in about 2 hrs! The speed and swipe this thing makes is unreal! I had many telling me to not get the 72 inch because of scalping. Well I don't mow commercially, I just maintain my home and farm land with it. It takes care of everything I used to use a bush hog just fine and it mows my lawn like a fine tuned machine and I have had NO scalping problems. If you set your wheels on the deck right it wont ever scalp. I wonder why people can't figure that out? I'm glad I got the 72", the 60" would have been a big mistake for me. If you know your land, once you get used to running this thing you can smoke it! The only problem I've had is getting too close to soggy ground! You WILL GET STUCK, I've stuck mine 4 times on my farm, have to put the nissan in 4x4 low to pull it out! The thing weighs 1,800 lbs, so you better not bring the 4 wheeler or side by side, you won't budge it.

      +jtarman70 Yeah we're on 34 acres and I mow about 1/3 that every week. What used to take 2-3 days on the scag turf tiger takes 6hrs on this Kubota. I put 85hrs on it this summer and it didn't skip a beat.

    • @jtarman70
      @jtarman70 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've got over 60 acres in all but most is for hay. The maneuverability of this machine around my chicken houses is just awesome. I like the way the 72 inch deck sits about a foot outside the mower. Yes you need to watch it and not hit things but it is great for reaching out and mowing grass underneath objects that you could not with the 60" deck. Like you, I just could not be happier, it makes mowing big jobs fun cause you know you'll be done in a few hours as opposed to days. I looked at JD997 but 3 things held me up on that one. First it was going to be $20,000 with the cushion seat. Second, it had DPF cause it was 37hp motor and I did not want DPF. Third, they didnt even have it in stock, was told I might get it in 2 weeks but could be as long as 6 months, they had no idea! LOL, I needed something I could take home that day and get to work with! Went to Kubota, dealt with a guy I know and have bought from before. Asked him about the ZD1511 which is the 31 hp. First thing out his mouth was " let me tell you something brother, you don't want DPF, I'd go with the 1211 24.8hp no DPF all day long, believe me, you don't want DPF to deal with it'll eventually cost you 2-3 grand" . He could have sold me the 1511 and made more money, but he said he hates DPF systems and it needs to be done away with.

    1100 hrs on my zd326s. still running strong apart from a mower deck gearbox that just went out on me in pretty spectacular fashion but at this point it doesn't owe me anything. It takes a beating up here in our SW PA springs when the grass is growing faster than I can keep up with it so often times I find myself playing catchup until summer comes in to slow it down. I replaced the rear tires with some carlisle garden tractor tires that have some mild lugs on them. greatly improved the mower's traction in slick conditions and doesn't tear up the yard at all unless you're being careless. I would venture to say it tears it up less because it doesn't spin as much.
    I wish kubota made mowers to handle larger area mowing like toro does but I suppose that's what their tractors are for. The 1211 and 1611 look like nice machines, wish I had the coin for one.

    Awesome video!! 👍👏 Try double cutting the same line back forth before moving on to the next line/row. It cuts all the gras completely because the first cut is cutting the majority of the grass but when you go over it again there is more room for the blades to smothly cut the rest of the grass leaving nice finish cut. 👍👍💯

    Put a bolt and nut with locktite on it now. Been using mine that way for over ten years. Kubota ZD28 New 9-3-2002 $9000.00 now has 975 Hrs. All hrs mowing my property around my house. I did not realize my ZD28 was almost 16yrs old. I just looked at service records. I was 57 at the time I purchased it in 2002. I had been finishing mowing my 20 acre property with a Kubota tractor and a Woods 7 foot three point finish mower. The ZD28 cut down mowing time almost two hours. I am older now and only finish mow about 8 acres. I have the other acres cut and baled two or three times each year.

      JERRY JAMES excellent comment and thanks for verifying the bolt and nut idea. I'm tired of micromanaging it around fences and brush. I know exactly what you mean about how much time it shaves off compared to using lesser machines. That's what people really don't understand. I've talked about my neighbor's 2009ish Kubota 72" (I don't know the exact model), but he's used our 1211 and says it's a world of difference from his to this one.. and you can see it in the engineering. Pretty much everything maintenance-wise that's difficult to get to on his is just a latch and cover on this one. Thanks again sir, happy mowing.

    That hay your mowing is what its like most of the time around my poultry houses. 3 Poultry houses are 40x500 sitting on 12 acres of land. I've mowed it 4 feet tall. It takes two or three passes to get it yard/lawn smooth, but it will do it. Amazing that this thing will mow the same grass as my 83hp massey ferguson tractor and bush hog. I usually had to make 2 passes with my bush hog to get it clean looking.

    • @HI-PSI
      @HI-PSI  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a great mower for sure. Hey, have you tried locking up the pivot action on the front axle? I've heard it makes the ride a little smoother but I haven't tried it yet..

    • @jtarman70
      @jtarman70 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I have not. I mow on a lot of steep hills, not sure if that would help or hurt. So far I've not had any trouble tracking a straight line on some pretty steep inclines. Where the highway meets my yard/ditch, its pretty steep, about 6-7 feet higher than my actual yard. I hope I never turn over cause I mow down the highway to my moms and brothers, about a mile of highway. I'm leaned over pretty hard on some of it. I always keep the side of the mower that the deck sticks out on the down side so that if I tip I will have the deck acting as a footer. By the way, I"m a big dude too, 6 fooot 1 285lbs. I do leave my arms down on the seat but its pretty tight in there. Between the comfort, speed and ability to maneuver, its hard to get back on my JD X320 and Kubota TG1860D riders! Kind of sad in a way cause I love those old tractor style mowers too! I'm still using them some cause I don't want them to sit unused. Its gonna cool off to the 70's here in Arkansas later this week. If it feels good outside I wont be in such a hurry and I'll get the JD and K Diesel back out for a little stroll on both to keep em in good running shape!

    • @HI-PSI
      @HI-PSI  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      jtarman70 Right on. Our ditch is the steepest hill I mow and I'll probably leave the pivot free for that. My problem is old gopher holes that open up and swallow the front wheels at speed. I've almost been ejected off of the mower because of it. Looks like I will have to mow once or two more times this year, I'll test the lockup.
      We have a cheapo husqvarna 48" and the 61" scag tiger.. They all have their special place in the routine. Lots of spots the Kubota can't get into.

      @jtarman70 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I thought I was done mowing but then we got hit with 3 straight weeks of 90+ temps and its started raining again. Noticed yesterday that the grass has took off again. Let me know how the lockup goes. My yard is really the only flat thing I mow. my poultry houses are built on a graded pad so everything over there is on some degree of slope except right in the bottom, thats where I get stuck if I'm not careful.

    Very nice machine, I would love to run that myself! I got a brand new Kubota Z725 60" model this past spring for my expanding side job of mowing and it has been awesome. Love the adjustable suspension seat on it a lot! Many of the lots I take care of are small however so I have been stuck doing them with my old JD X300. No, far from a commercial GT. Good engine, weak K46 Tuff Torque so its slow as well. It's time to sell or trade it for my second Kubota Z turn next spring. Looking at getting the Z411 48" Kawasaki powered machine to fill that role. Expensive machines for sure, but I like to buy once and get years of use, so in the long run with very good maintenance they should run trouble free for many hours with both having the commercial Kawasaki powerplants..Sure would like the fuel mileage of that diesel! I live in a housing community village and have slowly taken over everything over the years from simple repairs, to all the mowing, and I also do the winter snow plowing with my Kubota RTV1120d...yep another expensive thing,,but its been great for 4 seasons now..Plow was over 5K alone. I know most would say buy a plow truck, but I use the RTV for much more than just snow, and the hydraulic dump bed is fantastic when I'm doing mulch, or doing gravel drives and roads as well...Still use my old Ford 3910 50hp diesel farm tractor with FEL and a stone rake for that service. I finally got a very large and heavy roller as well that I tow behind the RTV to pack in the new stone,,works great!! Funny thing is I just retired from my union job at the required 50yrs. old...Decided working for myself sounded like fun, and so far so good..My youngest still in HS loves running the equipment..good thing,,need all the help I can get!! EDIT,,forgot to add,,try just some simple heavy duty zip ties to hold that pin in place while mowing under the fence..should do the trick just fine.

      Yes, you have to drop the deck caster on the offset side. It'll look like it's too tall but it's not. If it still digs in after doing that you'll have to try and get a different angle of approach.

    Good video...thanks for sharing. Quick question for you regarding the 72" deck...do you wish you would've gone with a 60" instead due to the scalping or are you happy with the 72"? I'm trying to decide which one to go with. Thanks!

    • @HI-PSI
      @HI-PSI  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great question. I own a 60" something Scag and it doesn't scalp at all. But the Scag has far less power at speed. The time saved makes up for the 4-6 places it digs in on my property. If you're dealing with a lot of uneven land or mowing professionally I'd go smaller than 72" personally. Makes for a better all around machine. I mow about 12ac/week at home so speed takes priority over quality.

      Seth Cornwell No, I haven't tried the grass catcher mulch kit. I'd say as long as you're not on a crazy incline it would be just fine. The Kubota has enough power to carry it around, I'd be more worried about the hopper bottoming out in a ditch or the bottom of a hill.

      moultonditcher yeah, I only did that for the video. For some reason that's what other lawn mowing channels like to do. Sometimes I'll do the back and forth if the grass is thin but most of the time I do big square/rectangular patches, always throwing clippings outward. This machine has 110hrs on it now and no problems. I grease the heck out of it before every cutting and spray it off with compressed air when I'm done. Our neighbor has a 72" Kubota he bought back in 09, he's had a few issues with it over ther years but it still cuts today.

You would be looking at replacing the spindles and blades a lot of you did and possibly the deck belt. If the grass is more then at least 8 inches I always raise the deck all the way up unless the grass is thinned if it's thick like that raise it all the way up then recut to desired length. Or at least that's what I do I know everyone is different though. Nice mower though just glad it's not a rear discharge.

      I haven't had any issues with wet grass clumping or dust being thrown out of the front so I guess ACS works as advertised. I'm assuming Velocity plus is scag's version... I don't think our old 60" Turf Tiger has that (if it does the decals are long gone). Dust is one of my main complaints with the scag, it likes to throw it out under the front of the deck. The only way I found to combat that is to wedge a stick under the deck exhaust shroud to keep it lifted up.

      ggg's fan I know of 3 diesel specific shops within 15min of the house, that's in a town with a population less than 5000 so I'm not too worried about finding the right mechanic.. Plus my neighbor's old '09ish model Kubota hasn't skipped a beat. Our old scag hasn't had any major repairs either so I can't lean one way or the other when it comes to reliability. The scag has it's place in certain areas, usually tighter spots since it's the smaller machine and the Kubota is great at moving through a lot of material quickly and WAY MORE comfortably.

      GoldenCraftMine only time will tell.. I've used a scag turf tiger for many years without any major problems so the bar is set pretty high. The Scag is fast, has an awesome Kawasaki v-twin, and a low center of gravity. I love the scag but the rigid seat will beat you up if you mow for any length of time. To me, the suspension on the Kubota's seat is worth its weight in gold and is the best feature of the machine... Little to no fatigue mowing hours at a time. Plus the mower just feels rock solid and heavy duty.

      Cyberslug1 it's not a fixed deck. It's a floating deck. It just doesn't use chains.

    Those wheel pins wouldn''t pull out if you drilled a hole throught the end and put a cotter key in it. Good video though.

    One thing I don’t like about the Kubota was it’s a very dirty mower. When you mow with it , it makes you super dirty.
    A lot blows out the front then back onto you.

      Shane Yelvington I've noticed that from time to time. I usually mow first thing in the morning while there's still dew on the ground so it's not as dusty.

      FixItStupid We had a '96 JD 455 that just would not die. John Deere makes some awesome machines, can't deny that.
