Out of all the 'Monster' type games for the Commodore 64, which one was your favourite? 😇🕹👌 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- More from 1986: tinyurl.com/1986-C64-GAMES My Top Picks: tinyurl.com/CCGS-BEST-GAMES
I remember playing this game once a little bit on my Commodore 64 back in the early 2010's. In fact, i had it in a compilation called EPYX EPICS. It was the disk version. It was pretty cool. And who remembers THE MUNCHER from Gremlin Graphics 😹👍🕹️?
Thats cool, I had that compilation on Cassette but it didn't come with The Movie Monster Game, drat! Haha yes I remember The Muncher, I'll definitely add that one to the list 😇🕹️👌
Absolutely loved this game as a kid! the "find the baby" scenario was so hard because you could only track the baby when they cried out! Thanks for this video- really brought back some good memories!
Yeah the 'baby' would make little sounds and you had to be quick to locate it... great game, full of nostalgia - glad it brought back some good memories for you 😇🕹️👌
That memory right there is pure nostalgia, I can imagine that this game meant a lot back in the day. Good times and... I hope you got good grades for the story! 😇🕹️👌
Interesting that they actually went for the official Godzilla license instead of coming up with their own take on him (which would be completely legal as long as it doesn't go too far). Epyx was one of favorites back in the day. Jumpman and Jumpman Jr are still among my favorites of all time.
Unfortunately on modern retro systems, they had to replace Godzilla. The same happened with the Bruce Lee game, which is now just Lee. But The C64 and similar systems allow you to use your own ROMs pretty easily.
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Yep. Epyx, Broderbund, Lucas Games, Electronic Arts, Activision. Great times. EA and Activision are still around but a faint shadow of what they used to be (they mainly just publish and distribute software nowadays).
This is such a gem. Some combos were rough, like destroy a landmark in New York as Mechatron and having to deal with the water for some of them, but it's a smashing time!
Good memories - I particularly liked the Mechatron monster... then again I was a massive fan of The Transformers as a young kid so the Mechatron was definitely my favourite 😇🕹️👌
Yeah you're not wrong. I particularly liked the 'games' series (Winter/Summer/California) and also one of my faves was 'Sword Of Fargoal'. Great software house 😇🕹👌
This game was so much fun! My dad actually bought this game and said it was too much for me to play. I remember sneaking into our little office to play this and had a ball with it!
Love this game, and the music is composed by the same genius who did Temple of Apshai Trilogy. A great tribute to kaiju movies of the 70s and 80s and above all, So SO much fun!
I had this on tape for the C64 and it had the longest loading times, I ever experienced on the Commodore. Completing a mission with one of the monsters didn't take anywhere as long, as staring at the loading screen.
Yeah... I had the same problem as you as all of my C64 games were on cassette. Dragons Lair II: Escape from Singes Castle was another killer for me... the loading times were a nightmare 😇🕹️👌
wow you know Epyx before Epyx... impressive. And you are right, back then Epyx was allover all the floppies here in the USA. Games on cassette never caught on here
Played it recently on Evercade. It feels like something that would have impressed back in the day although its quite slow its got the usual Epyx presentation that e eryone would have crowded around to watch. Its hard to understand for people who weren't there how impressive this stuff was.
The evercade was a lovely addition - I still play Paradroid and also Sword Of Fargoal on that during lunch breaks. I hope they add more C64 cartridges.... as I'm loving the first 3 they brought out 😇🕹️👌
It's funny... I've played a lot of monster games like Rampage and Mail Order Monsters... and I've played a lot of Epyx games (they made some fantastic stuff)... but I've never played this one. I don't remember ever seeing this as a kid. Sounds like I should definitely give this a whirl! It looks fun!
Get it fired up and yeah, give it a whirl. My favourite Epyx game will always be 'Sword Of Fargoal' for some reason, I love that game - even though I died to the 'War Lord' in the livesteam hahaha 😇🕹️👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Agreed! Sword of Fargoal was a favorite of mine as well! Great game! But yeah... I've had many deaths like the one you had. It happens to us all! It's part of the experience. 🙂
I got my highest score as the Glog. All you need to do is to touch a building and the Glog's passive damage will take care of the rest. I was able to destroy most of Tokyo before I had to retreat to the sea.
This game was made for me. At least that was what I thought before getting the game. I'm a huge monster movie and b-movie nerd. So imagine me NOT liking this game when it came out.. The game was ok but my hype for the game was impossible to live up to. And the biggest problem..... Well let's say it in the voice of Marlon "the horror, the horror" Brandos voice. The loading times, the loading times....... I will give it another go in an emulator later today. Who knows, perhaps this game and me can be friends again.
You're right about the loading times, they could be brutally long sometimes. Luckily with modern 'warp mode' emulation we don't feel it quite the same... definitely worth a revisit. Hopefully will appeal a bit more 😇🕹👌
@@CheekyCommodoreGamer Whoops, I meant to say "diagetic" back there (I think auto-correct initially mangled it, but I've since corrected that). I positively love their movie theater theming of the entire UI.
There was a few 'monster' type games out for the C64, Rampage being a legendary game (Also on the channel playlist). I'm hoping to get them all covered eventually 😇🕹️👌
Haha yeah, the loading times were brutal on some games back in the day - I'd just go grab a drink, or watch a cartoon, whilst games were loading as a kid.... sometimes I'd return to the C64 to find that the game had crashed too. Gah! 😇🕹️👌
Ok, what version of this game was this?! I’m in the USA, and the one I played when it came out had Mothra in it instead of the wasp, and Mr. Meringue was not in it!
Yeah there was some big loads for this game, its instant pretty much on the Evercade! I play this a lot still on my lunch breaks. I linked the game manual in the description of the video - never too late to give it another try 😇🕹️👌

I played The Muncher to completion on my Speccy +3. Not a bad game, but this one, however simpler, looks much more interesting.
My buddies had this game and it was amazing! Thanks for reminding me of its greatness.
Superb memories huh - hopefully you are recminiscing some good times in gaming 😇🕹️👌
100% remember buying this game. Great video
Thankyou my friend, great game isn't it. Good nostalgic memories flooding back playing this - that's what it's all about I guess 😇🕹👌

The animation on the Blob & Spider were brilliant. 👍
That spider walking along was very good animation I must admit - good game this, simple yet addictive 😇🕹👌
During Elementary school , had to write a short story. I played this game and took notes. Wrote a story from my notes of my game play.

The spider and blob look so creepy! Nice!

The music is fantastic.
Superb isn't it, especially the piano intro 😇🕹️👌

I wish there was a time machine to get back to those great days.

Good man, yeah get it fired up - great game... feels a little 'slow' to play these days, but still good fun 😇🕹️👌
I played this a lot as a kid. I managed to lay waste to the whole city once with The Glog and leave :)
Glog is great for destroying everything - good game isn't it 😇🕹👌

Neat, an isometric rendition of Rampage, but with a cleverly executed set of fully-diagetic menus!
Definitely reminds me of Rampage.. like you say though, with an isometric touch 😇🕹️👌

What a superb name for a bad guy monster if you don't want it to sound menacing.... 'Mr Meringue!' hahaha 😇🕹️👌

ah the famous landmark of "epyx house", a must see if you visit london
They had their own country in Summer Games, Winter Games, etc.
Good times - superb game isn't it 😇🕹️👌
Always wanted to play this as a kid sadly the casette we had was corrupted and didn't go further than selection screen
Gah that must have sucked back in the day - hopefully, you can find a download for this and maybe fire it up on an emulator - decent game 😇🕹️👌
I have this on disk but I don't think I ever played it, I'll remedy this tonight
