Picked up a GX4 yesterday. The trigger was a huge surprise to me. Very crisp, and pretty dang light. I don’t have a trigger gauge, I may have to go get one to measure mine. I put 300 or so rounds through it today, and was shooting it better than my G48. That’s too bad you had your experience with it. Good review, and like always, stay safe!!

I just got the GX4 and my trigger is definitely NOT stiff. In fact it is pretty awesome - crisp and easy to pull. I would love to see if you have addressed your trigger concern with Taurus and have an update.

I had trigger reset issues with my new GX4...Sent it back....I got my GX4 back from Taurus. Two week turnaround. They stated they replaced the trigger assembly and the rear support. Not sure what the latter is. I went to the range yesterday and put 50 rounds of Federal American Eagle 115 gr and 50 rounds of Speer Lawman 124 gr, both FMJ. Then 20 rounds of Federal HST 124 gr. {$} It ran flawlessly AND shot to point of aim at 21 feet with all 120 rounds. I rate it as equal to the Hellcat and better than the P365. FWIW, mine has the tungsten gray slide which looks great.

Taurus is killing it. Years ago I bought the PT111 Millennium (predecessor to the G2 and G3c). My son bought a G3c 2 years ago. In FEB 2022 I bought an 856. And I just bought a GX4. Every one of them shoots great with no malfunctions.

I own the GX4. I purchased it from Academy. My trigger pull is just under 6lbs fresh out of the box. It has loosen up to about 5.5 lbs after some shooting with a short reset. I've also lubed and polished things a bit. There is some potential for extra drag against the frame initially.
I did have some issues with reloads in the gun as well. I found that the more round nose projectiles didn't chamber, but the more conical ones did no problem. I think it could be overcome with seating the bullet slightly deeper in the case. It's appears to be an issue with the projectile catching the rifling on the barrel. I reload 100% and shoot a lot of 9mm. I've seen this one other time with a Springfield and had to adjust the OAL slightly. I had 100
5 success with my conical projectiles and standard OAL. Round nose fail 1 in 8 at the current depth.

    • @JustinOpinionChannel
      @JustinOpinionChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I would be very happy with a 5.5 lbs trigger in this gun. I always wait until after I've 'broken it in' before I put the gauge on a trigger, but I was not surprised at the numbers, based on how it felt.

I appreciate that! I've invested heavily in technical equipment for filming and audio, as well as upgrades to software, and am even taking some training classes here and there. I've challenged myself to make better quality videos (with the same unfortunate weakness that I'm still in them). It can be both frustrating and rewarding.

Addressed to other commenters on this review of the new Taurus GX4:
(Btw, I enjoyed this video review)
Let’s be fair and absolute in Initial release time MSRP price comparison, and noting, “…issue(s) with this or that” concerns, respectively.
Sig Sauer P365 Initial MSRP: $599.00
    Springfield Hellcat Initial MSRP: $599.00
Keep in mind the major issue (+) w/the initial SIG P365 release (for $599.00) before production stopped in order to fix said issue(s).
Don’t report/compare the initial release of one vs another that’s been out over 3-1/2 years.
The Hellcat released almost 2 years ago, w/feeding issues w/mfg brass and reloads by many buyers.
    That being said…
Today, I purchased my new GX4, in Taurus case w/all mfg’s content, for $331.00 (all black color), although most retailers in my area were tagging it at $379.00 for the two-tone color scheme.
I had no time to shoot it yet, maybe later today (Sunday).
I’ll see what my initial experience concludes.

I looked at one of these at a local gun store. I was really impressed. Obviously didn’t get to shoot it, but it felt great in the hand, build quality appeared to be very good.
I suspect that trigger has an issue… 9 lbs can’t be right.
With a channel as big as this one, I’m sure we will get a re-visit to this firearm…

    • @hdjackrabbit
      @hdjackrabbit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

There is no possible way it could be anywhere near 9 lbs maybe half of that but then since the reviews I've been reading I think they've already made improvements. Mine came with the two standard magazines but one has a plus two extension added on to it, and lakeline LLC makes a four round extension for the standard mag but I've heard it doesn't hold up that well.

My GX4 has a 5.5lb trigger not sure how/why you get 9lb. The lack of over travel is a definite bonus, which helps rapid fire.

  • @hdjackrabbit
    @hdjackrabbit 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Mine has been absolutely perfect to me so far. The cute little keychain is actually for takedown. There is a slotted pin forward of the trigger. Clear weapon, pull trigger while turning that PIN 1/4 counterclockwise and the slide will just about fall off the forward of the pistol. The pin automatically resets itself when slid back together.

One of the best if not the best review that I seen on this pistol. Loved that you spoke about the features while shooting it. I was also very impressed with the picture on picture of the target while you were shooting it. It’s refreshing to see how a pistol prints on paper as appose to shooting a steel target that anyone can hit. My only recommendation is to let us know what distance you are shooting from and to refresh the targets. Paper is much cheaper than bullets and it makes it easy for us to see where you are hitting. Overall it’s a great production especially your insight into the trigger.

Interesting. Others have raved about how good the trigger is. One even rated it over his Sig P365. I had the same issue with my PT1911. An 8 lbs trigger in a 1911 is inexcuseable. My other Taurus handguns are a pleasure to shoot. I'm anxious to get my hands on a GX4.

I'd send it to Taurus because the trigger is way too heavy. I know a couple of people that have gotten it and they usually pull around the 5 to 6 pound mark. I still think it's a good gun as long as it doesn't go down the same road that the P365 went down when it first came out.

Nice, unbiased review, as always. Yeah, like a lot of the comments here, I think you need to ship it back to Taurus, before you do the head to head comparisons. That trigger pull should be smooth, and at 5.5 lbs. I've watched a ton of reviews, and that's what they all get. IMO though, there's just not enough difference to warrant replacing my pt111. Also own the tx22. Both excellent pistols!

I bought the PPS m2, though is doesn’t hold a high capacity the gun overall shoots like a dream. I almost started to regret my purchase once I saw the gx4. After doing more research I’m happy with the 7rd mag I carry and how accurate I am with it. I have heard less than positive things about the gx4’s sights & trigger. For the price I think it is an amazing beginner micro but don’t get hustled into getting the cheaper gun that holds more ammo. Guns could be the difference between life or death. Shoot & choose the gun you shoot the best.

I would consider sending it back to Taurus. My trigger breaks crisp at 5.65-6 pounds consistently. I like it more than my canik trigger. That’s saying something because canik triggers are some of the best out of the box triggers on the market. I bought my Gx4 because my sub compact canik was just to big to carry without a complete wardrobe change. Taurus really hit it out of the park on this little piece. In my opinion.

Hello Justin, thanks for all of your great videos! I bought a GX4 a few hours ago (May 1, at Bi-Mart in western Oregon - $298.97). I don't have a trigger pull gauge but my trigger finger tells me that the trigger pull on my GX4 is right around 5-6 pounds. I suggest that you send that one back to Taurus if you haven't done that already.

I am so glad you mention the trigger. I saw the Gx4 at Academy and compared it to the P365. It looked, size wise, the same. And the msrp shows as $392 but they sell for $399. The G3c is $299, 3- 12rd mags, or a G3c or G3 is $349 with either the optical cut or laser. I got the G3c with laser and with your review don't think I'm missing one thing.. i'm not getting a small gun then try and find a workable Optic for a good price.. These Optic prices are unreal.. good review

      I think I paid 289 for my G3,
      about june last year roughly.
I've only put about 30 rounds
through it , it jams constantly on
defensive rounds, not as much with
target rounds. I love the gun, lol , hopefully
it will break in and stop jamming . The trigger
pull is nice, nothing like this 9lb one here.

      @@mig50cc lol,
I can't speak for the others, but
in my case, I don't remember,
right after I bought it , the prices
      jumped about $50 to $70 , plus
you just couldn't readily buy the
gun period. OUT OF STOCK ,
      I wanted to get a second G3,
even online was just, out of stock.
So, it might have been 269.00 289.00
something like that , I'm sure it
was under the $300 dollar mark..
Add insult to injury, my local store
wouldn't even put me on a waiting
list or notification list for the next
      one they might get in.

Like already stated in previous comments, the trigger on your GX4 appears to be out of spec. All others are getting sub 6 pound pulls. Also, the chambering issue, also mentioned in another post, was also experienced at the opposite end of the spectrum by another reviewer only their example was to loose and were experiencing case bulging. With a history of questionable QC, that has greatly improved in recent years, I hope Taurus hasn't regressed.
    Great review as I always

Inspired by your review and dislike for the trigger, I had an idea. (Ruh roh, Raggy!)
I had a spare unwanted ZEV 2.0# Glock spring laying in the parts bin. I installed it in the GX4 and it wouldn't work; too long, I couldn't get it to go into battery.
Once I figured out how to get it out again, I clipped 2.5 coils. Nope, still not working right. Clipped another 2 coils and it works fine, with a 4# (kinda mushy) trigger pull and ran a magazine of reloads without any misfires.
If I were doing it again, I would start with a 3.0# spring and clip 3 coils, then assemble and try it. Next time, right?
Obviously I need to run a lot more rounds through this before I would trust it for carry.

    • @OhioCruffler

A little break-in and the mushy went away.

Just got one and the trigger is pretty good but somewhat stiffer than my Shield Plus and yes the slide release works without doing file work . I'm going to put some rounds through it but may still need to do some work on the trigger .

Later models have a better trigger, but for a carry gun with no manual safety a heavier trigger is a good thing. If it were a revolver the trigger would be performance center quality or better at the 5-7 pound weight.

I'm not getting the trigger variances. Mine is exceptional. The GX4 is up there with my TRP and 226 as being my best shooting pistols. The trigger in mine reminds me of a heavier series 80. It's a short take-up, crisp clean break. Closest striker trigger to a 1911 feel I've ever had.

I've held and pulled the trigger on a few display models. I thought they were in the 5 to 6 lb range. Not surprised yours has an 8 lb pull. Quality control? Never know what you're gonna get in the box. My LCP Max has a 7 1/4 lb trigger pull 👎. I jerk it pretty bad. I'm putting the M-carbo trigger and spring kit in it. Hopefully get it down to 5 1/2 to 6 lbs.

The trigger was very good. Night and day compared to the G3C. Recoil was manageable. At 7 yards I was pushing slightly left and low. But I only put about 30 rounds through it. I have to be careful pulling it out of the holster. I accidentally hit the mag eject button twice. I'm going to put an Ameriglo front sight on it.

My new GX4 pulls at around 6 pounds. It breaks clean and seems pretty nice. My GX4 seems to be a lighter trigger pull than my factory Walther PPS M2. You definitely got a lemon of a trigger.

Taurus is been on a recommended good spree,I had the .40 cal 24\7 full length and since that tool to now I would deffent recommend them and they are not bad shooters but the price is starting to go up and that's what was the separations from other tools so like ciggerts once they go up to a price I doubt like I'll stop buying and go back to cz,canik,so on

The Taurus GX4 is not a bad gun for the price. However for me I would go with the Smith &wesson m&p shield plus. It's got a better grip a smoother trigger and at only $525.00 it's not much more expensive than the Taurus GX4.

Why I love these small pistols is because my first gun was a 25acp loved that thing wish I still had it, anyway got that gun the day I turned 21 but yeah back then majority the guns I had was cheap 25’s or 380’s but was small and easy to carry.. You would’ve been lucky to get 4rds to fire before a jam lol but was all I could afford at the time was cheap guns from pawnshops, wasn’t till I got real money (1995ish) that I started getting better guns, I was even the first person in my city with a AK 47…Literally!! I knew this cause everyone I took it to the gun range I would literally have everyone looking and asking where I got it and some asking why I had it 🤣😂
