  • This year we had a hot summer. The head of summer always brings on its share of challenges with any garden. I love watching birds so adding a bird bath is a great way to bring birds into your yard/garden.
I added 2 more bird baths this year so at the time of this video I have total of 5. I usually rinse out the bird baths weekly to keep them fresh. I fell ill and got behind so this is one of those tasks that just had to wait.
Even though I am using Tilex basic bleach will also work to kill the algae.
I hope you find inspiration to get put a bird bath in your garden.
Give us a thumbs UP so more people can see this content.
    Thanks for stopping by.

I recently read somewhere that if you put one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar per gallon of birdbath water it will change the acidity just enough for the algae not to grow...

I will try that too. I have a large concrete bath too heavy to move. Only issue is the acid in vinegar will break down concrete.

Also saw put a small piece of copper like what you get from hardware store and set it in

I thought bleach is NOT recommended? I want to verify before doing mine.

I rinse the bowl thoroughly. Birds are smart. They don't drink pool water for example.

You can place bag or cardboard over the bath while the bleach does its work to keep birds out if you want. It is actually recommended to use bleach.

@@naturebluegardensbirds don’t drink from pools b/c they can’t get in the pool w/o drowning.

Contact product vendor to see if they recommend specific use. I prefer a) scrub w/toilet brush, b) rinse, c) fill & add 2 tablespoons baking soda. Repeat every week or so.
