I think honourable mention is due to the Akko Mod 005 (65%) and the 007 (75%). Excellent aluminum body, includes metal and FR4 plate and excellent build quality. The Mod 005 is $129 and shipping is way less than from Keychron.

IMO the Keychron Q2 & Q1 v2 is the easiest to recommend for beginners since they are great out of the box (FYI, avoid Q1 v1 because of keycap clearance and sound/ping issues). I went with the GMMK Pro as I prefer its aesthetics and the price was also significantly lower since Keychron don't sell locally in my country. Q2 looks to be a $300ish keyboard (can't seem to find it online in Aus? so going by Q1 pricing) Personally hate the blue-ish colours (or the other options too) on the Q2 Does the double gasket design really make all the difference, worth the cost difference? Also looking at the Asus Falchion ... but not willing to part with $300 if it ain't bloody fantastic, looks great tho ... but I'd rather the Q2 and byo key caps Have seen that the Razer BlackWidow V3 mini, is good.. just too expensive for what it is. Any plans on looking at the "Nuphy Air 75"? It seems like a great wireless low-profile option, competing with the very popular Logitech G915 TKL for half the price.
I bought your keyboard from KBD fans but have gateron silent blank inks in mine. Really like it! Question mark key placement takes some getting used to though.
Really love the height of the 65% layout but it's super hard for me to do without the function row these days. Need more boards with macro pads to the left.
As someone who never uses it, I've remapped my Caps Lock to the Function key and it's been a total game-changer -- it allows me to have a second function layer over the numerics to act as my function row I don't miss the Caps Lock at all now, and I find it so much more comfortable that even on keyboards with function rows, I find myself still remapping CapsLock
I made the mistake of buying a Keychron K7. What I received was NOT wireless (no dongle included) and, when connected by USB cable, many keys did not work. Keychron ignored all my requests for an RMA and a refund. Before buying anything from Keychron, think! Do you want to give your money to a company that treats its customers this way?
Just a suggestion for your Tofu 60 build. If you want to remove more of that case ping you should try tape modding your PCB. It only takes a few seconds and it makes a world of difference. I added this mod to my keyboard and it completely changed the sound profile for the better!
I have a tofu 60 in the color Tiffany with GMK hammerhead dark base. My daily driver and I love it. But I have several keychrons and they are all well built.
Got me the Keychron K14 for Christmas, my first "real" mechanical keyboard with red switches. The quality for the price is insane coming from overpriced Logitech gaming keyboards. It's a whole new world of typing. Sooo smoooth. Unfortunately it is collecting dust right now. Bought it as a small couch gaming keyboard (bluetooth) to replace the G613, but it is always losing connection (bought 3 different BT dongles), so cable only. And for my desktop I need the 10 number block (working with excel sheets and numbers a lot). Also there are no key caps for ISO layout (QUERTZ) available for the K14. Fantastic keyboard if you write only in English and don't need Bluetooth. There are the K4 and K6 with ISO layout, maybe I'll check them out.
Curious how this compares with the K2. I got the red K2 because of all the positive reviews and hated almost everything about it: switches, build quality, keyboard height, typing angle, keycaps and sound. I was constantly making typing errors too. Sold it a month later. Much happier with my Drop ALT + Halo Clears. It didn't have any of these problems.
I've been using the Keychron K2 - mechanical RGB option - since it launched from Kickstarter last fall. Great low-profile option in the 65% layout as well.
Remember when Ali disliked a product so much he said "I will NOT leave a link down below, thanks for watching"... just something I think about from time to time
Wish there were more 75%s out there. I need my function keys, even for gaming ;-; Currently running a Wooting 2, I don't like the floating design, but I do love their custom switches
This felt more like a comparison than an individual review. Like, what cable comes it? Is it wired only? A lot of their stuff has multiple ways to connect
What i want is a Keyboard without Num-Block, but with Play/Pause-Key, Mute-Key and a Volumeknob...Buildquality should be like OTs Tofu. Currently i use the older K70 Lux. It's also easy to clean, since the Switches are not edged.
I love the keycaps and the font this keyboard uses. Would have probably gotten this one if I had recently purchased a Varmilo MA87 (Peking Opera) keyboard.
I have a modded gmmk pro (removed all screws/stand offs, swaped thicker gaskets, fr4 plate, soon stupid fish foam with aquakings v2 50gr, durock v2 holee modded and lubed with krytox and). I think the new q2 is like 75% of my modded gmmk pro, but the stock gmmk pro is worse than the q2. It is also more expensive, though I like the look and rgb of the gmmk pro more. And you also have function Keys for certain games and programs. The gmmk pro is really nice, but more expensive and needs more modded to sound and feel good unlike the q2.
@@PhilippinesLife101 well you need to delube and relube the goats, so yes you need new ones. They are better lubed now though, but I think not good enough.
modded GMMK pro is great but be prepared to: struggle with over tightened factory screws, completely replace and mod new stabs, possibly file/sand the switch plate, add gaskets. It’s great in final form, but takes some work and frustration to get there.
Sorry I'm bit confused. Did you get the Gateron Ink Black or the Gateron Black in the Tofu60? When you showed the purchased page for the Tofu keyboard you had the Gateron Black equipped, but then you referred to them as Black Ink throughout the video.

Just to mention, while Keychron is good value, there have been complaints on their quality control. So, investigate and do some research befre buying...
Pretty sure the Keychrons have had latency issues in the past. I’d suggest running some tests on this one to investigate. (Maybe it was only their wireless keyboards?) Also, just saying, the Durgod keyboards are objectively better than the Q2 for less money. I know you just test what you’re sent but I’d keep the Durgods in mind when making recommendations.
all wireless keyboards have latency except for big brand prebuilts. that’s why they’re just not a thing in customs, also the battery will eventually die in them
The Q1 sounds like it might be the board for you. They recently revamped it with the release of the v2 for the knob so a lot of the issues the board had with case ping on release are solved. It sounds pretty good stock. Am running one rn. Highly recommend if it restocks Keychron is also going to release a TKL within the year if 75% form factor is too small for you. Should be pretty dope. @@DeprivedJuice will look into the Q1. Thanks. Takes a while for Keychron products to get to my country. Right now, I'm still using the K1 v4, but I'll be keeping an ear on the ground for whatever they have in store this year for sure for when I get the time and money to finally build my own. 🤞🏽
If Corsair made a tkl with low profile switches (and wasn't so f'in expensive), I would have bought it. If Keychron had their tkl with low profile switches in stock, I would have bought it. damn, love this comment section. i have yet to own a mech keyboard and i am eyeing the k2 v2 for a long time already. is it worth it or should i save up for q1 v2?
tbh the k2v2 isn’t great value anymore. build quality is poor, but it’s a good starter mech. However if you’re like me, after a year with it you might be wanting something more. I think if you’re able it’s better to get a quality board now, instead of a less nice board that you’re gonna replace with a nicer board later on… if you can afford it of course. I think everyone enjoys their first mech no matter how cheap at first until they notice it’s shortcomings!
i'd go with mw65 lite 80$ (tax+shipping included) gasket mount clear matt acrylic case pc plate (for deep sound) poron case foam poron pcb foam 67keys+volume changer compatible with VIA it's like kbd67 lite but generally cheaper and better
Ali, do you have any tips/tutorials, or links to resources on how to clean a non-hotswappable mechanical keyboard? My Corsair Strafe RGB is having some issues, and I’d like to disassemble the switches and do a deep clean if possible.
Hello. Im planning on building the same color keyboard as your tofu. May i ask what specific color/colorway is your keycaps anf keyboard? Is this different from your first tofu build?
Is there any chance you would be reviewing the Razer Basilisk v3, as I think it's a really good mouse with the features but I'm still hesitant to buy one. Or if anyone does own it, maybe they can give me a quick pros and cons/comparison to a different product in regards to it's performance. Thank you very much for the great content!
Great video. I think that should try out the Bakeneko65 or 60. I personally think that it sounds and feels better than the Tofu. I have tried both. If you are going to keep your tofu though, I would recommend doing the o-ring mod by Keybored.
I love their new q2 but I also see your tofu over there and then always think about mine and how I messed it up sooo much and hate it and really want to get rid of it

damn, love this comment section. i have yet to own a mech keyboard and i am eyeing the k2 v2 for a long time already. is it worth it or should i save up for q1 v2?
tbh the k2v2 isn’t great value anymore. build quality is poor, but it’s a good starter mech. However if you’re like me, after a year with it you might be wanting something more. I think if you’re able it’s better to get a quality board now, instead of a less nice board that you’re gonna replace with a nicer board later on… if you can afford it of course. I think everyone enjoys their first mech no matter how cheap at first until they notice it’s shortcomings!
i'd go with mw65 lite
80$ (tax+shipping included)
gasket mount
clear matt acrylic case
pc plate (for deep sound)
poron case foam
poron pcb foam
67keys+volume changer
compatible with VIA
it's like kbd67 lite but generally cheaper and better
Ali, do you have any tips/tutorials, or links to resources on how to clean a non-hotswappable mechanical keyboard? My Corsair Strafe RGB is having some issues, and I’d like to disassemble the switches and do a deep clean if possible.
Hello. Im planning on building the same color keyboard as your tofu. May i ask what specific color/colorway is your keycaps anf keyboard? Is this different from your first tofu build?
Tenkeyless is the smallest i would buy
will you have Q3 in your hands for review?
will stick with my K2, flat, small and new :)
Is it hotswappable
Don’t know anything about keyboards but I assume this would also be very good for gaming?😅
If you are going to keep your tofu though, I would recommend doing the o-ring mod by Keybored.
you should mod the Q2 like your tofu , keychron always need a heavy mod to sort out the hollowness
I love their new q2 but I also see your tofu over there and then always think about mine and how I messed it up sooo much and hate it and really want to get rid of it
Looks decent.. I really hate XDA keycaps though.. I'm a cherry profile guy I think.
I think K8 Pro might be sound good!
65% is probably what ill switch to
Its weird, all this gasket mount hype but the Tofu still sounds amazing
Is this just me or is your sound quality lacking some volume today? Not in the way of how loud it is but how "voluminous it sounds" if that makes any sense
I have keychrons k12 , and I think it's great for a mechanical wireless keyboard
Hey Optimum, could you do a budget 75% keyboard build?
I recently got a GMK Pro and am extremely happy with it. But this does look like a great option for someone looking for something smaller.
GMK ?
@@farhanlol7 you know what he meant🙄
Bro fr for that price you could of gotten something 3x better
@@bigmac963 Yeah, he missed one m🤣
Hey~ is that a pair ZS10 Pro @2:07? How do you like them?
that flex looks about on par with my plastic membrane keyboard, except it's intentional.
Isn't the k12 60% their smallest keyboard? Is the quality lower then here?
I want an all black mechanical keyboard probably 65% but dont want to break the bank, any suggestions?
Just wondering can you make a buying guide for Aussies now
