I love the version with the full orchestra, but like you I think sometimes the fewer instruments that accompany Angelina's magical voice the better. When she sings accompanied by just a piano or just a guitar we get the full flavor of her voice and it's delectable!

I thought that the orchestration was very tastefully done, the understated swells of the brass were just delicious, and AJ was of course doing what she does, endlessly impressing with her emotion, subtlety and control ... what a talent.
Dozens of listens and I still tear up every time. Personally, because Ive heard so many of her performances with just a piano or guitar, this was gorgeous. You will see as you dive deeper most of her recordings are bare bones re accompanyment. What bothers me most is the garbage that the Grammys fawn all over while ignoring stellar performances like this one. Enjoy the journey. It gets better and better.
I don't think I could agree with you more about the Grammys being a bunch of nonsense. There may have been a time where they were relevant, but that time is long gone.

I had my sound turned all the way up, because I really wanted to hear your comments throughout, but I could barely make out what you said, and there was one comment in the middle that I simply have no idea what it was, because I couldn't hear you at all. You might want to turn up the gain on the microphone, as well as the volume of the video. The other thing is that I've watched several of your reactions now and we've obviously gotten your reactions, and your drink du jour, but I've never seen any of your daughters. Certainly, I don't know how old they are, maybe they're busy with school, etc., and your schedule and theirs just don't necessarily coincide, but I was just pointing out what I've seen.

North wrote the music as a theme for the prison film Unchained (1955), hence the song title. First, and foremost, I was a fan of the Righteous Brothers, but the cover that Bobby Hatfield did was not good. Hatfield took one of the most beautiful ballads and jazzed it up without the respect that it deserved. I guess maybe it depends on what you heard first. For me, the Bobby Hatfield version is completely amazing, but if you were familiar with the original and thought he changed it too much, I can respect that.
