Is it worth installing alongside Mint Ubuntu-based and start migrating to? Any real benefit other than maybe Ubuntu might cease to exist some day in the future? I had memory consumption issue and the system kept freezing until I created a 24 GB swap file (double the size of the RAM) instead of the 2 GB partition I made when installed Mint almost 4 years ago.
If we are speaking of Cinnamon desktop, Ubuntu based vs Debian ( 21.2 vs LMDE) maybe Linux Kenel and Repository’s, having both would be a preference, if you are comparing, under hood comparison is difficult to measure, if you have time & resources May I suggest you try out both , for your user experience.
