    Hello my dear friend and teacher .
    Very interesting the debate about the biography and the relationship of Witt with others contemporary or not composers.
    Indeed, his music is really beautiful.
    My best wishes for you from Santiago de Chile.
    Ut Benedicat tibi Dominun "in lent time"
    Fernando.

    curioso mencionar que tengo un LP de la misma grabación (obra e intérpretes), en la que se atribuye a Beethoven esta obra, como "Sinfonía Cero"... durante algún tiempo no se pudo grabar, y fue justo cuando se determinó que era de Witt cuando volvieron a aparecer versiones de esta linda obra...

      It is true, for a long time this symphony was attributed to Beethoven and so was recorded. Please read the history of symphony written under video.

    The one of the photo is Fasch, not Witt!

    • @uranrising
      @uranrising ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the photo is of Fasch. If you put the name F.Witt into a search engine then click on images, you get this Fasch photo a few times, and then Witt's.
      A sweet symphony. When played once on BBC, the performance was followed by the question "Did you recognise all the quotations?"

    My friend you intrigued me with this story that I ignored. Agree, regardless who wrote it's nice example of Beethovenism before Eroica. Obviously no one surpassed Haydn's #97 (and all the London's set in general), not even Beethoven or Mozart before Eroica which is the real turnaround after Granpa Joseph.
    The question is: assuming it's Witt, where the hell is Beethoven's Jena? Did he really write? Did he destroyed maybe?
    We'll never know before we meet Ludwig again when our Lord permits....🙏🙏🙏

      @Pietro Landri ... I read that Beethoven tried to write a symphony in his teens, but it was not found nor recorded by Beethoven. It was probably too "a la Haydn"... :) I do not know if this is the symphony (as you saw, the specialists say no, but they have said yes 45 years), but I think young Beethoven should have been proud of it. (I must also tell you that Beethoven's name was Louis, I read this in Anders' book - Details biographiques sur Beethoven after Wegeler and Ries, published in 1839, I found it in French on the net, in PDF)

      Sorry Pietro, I beg to differ. Mozart's Jupiter Symphony eclipses all of Haydn's symphonies in one fowl swoop. I don't expect you to agree with me, but wish to add that I have listened to all Haydn's symphonies (on CD). They are wonderful.
      It took me while!! :-)

    Big, big arguments continue over who actually wrote this work, as you describe in your excellent synopsis. I think we can safely rule Haydn completely out of the equation. Some of the recapitulation on display is not Haydn's.
    So what do we have? The Jena Symphony, totally ignored today by programmers everywhere, written by Beethoven or Witt. Nobody cares! Still, I like it :-)

    • @sibarit101
      @sibarit101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment! David, I like this symphony and I'm not really interested in who wrote it. However, I ask myself one or two question: until 1957, the year Witt appeared as composer of this work, did anyone dare say this is a copy of Haydn's symphony? Now everyone ignores this symphony, but if, after 10 years, another musicologist will prove that the work belongs to Beethoven, how will react those who treated it with indifference? (these questions does not ruin my sleep, it just amuses me ... :) )

      @@sibarit101 Ha Ha, I share your views concerning insomnia. The finale, in my opinion, couldn't have possibly been written by Haydn clearly due to it's structure. I actually own an old vinyl LP (turnabout label) clearly attributing it to Beethoven. But who knows? Thoroughly enjoyed the exchange of comments with Pietro below. What a great guy. So refreshing. xx
