  • We took a class at the White Labs Yeast company and learned all bout what makes for a healthy fermentation. One of the requirements is oxygen. Here's what we found out. Also, we made a big mistake when trying to implement. Don't do this!

Hope all is well fellas. I'm sad the content creation has slowed but I'm always happy to hear from y'all.
I'd watch even if it turned into a vlog style like here's what I did today. Or packaging an order to be shipped and throw in a free gift for featuring their order.

Great to see ya'll again...always loving the videos.
One thing, however....where's Rachel? Saw her in the thumbnail, was hoping she'd make an appearance.
IT's been too long, please have her back on the brewing videos!!

it depends.. i was on several Fermentis seminars, and they do not recommend to aerate the wort at home or it is just dont make any difference. In case of liquid yeast, its recommended because lots of yeast cell had already died before you pitch. Put here is a quotation from the Fermentis site: ,,We don’t recommend aerating the wort in normal conditions. The dry yeast has been produced and dried with a specific know-how of the Lesaffre Group, in order to maximize the Ergosterols content of the cells. This allows the yeast to grow/multiply and ferment well. However, you could aerate the wort in particular cases, for example if you recycle the yeast. There is no difference (for the O2) between Ale and Lager.,,

Yeast don't produce etanol but ATP+CO2 with aerobic mitochondria (oxygen from Hydrogen Peroxide..etc)only anaerobically etanol+co2 is produced..

So funny, but I'd have gone with red = oxygen too.
I do pump oxygen into my "special" ferments, the regular ones just get a vigorous shake.
Looking forward to the take 2 video. Cheers!

You'll need an oxygen-rated regulator as well! CO2 regulators should not be used for Oxygen

This is why starters are complete BS. Yeast is the most misunderstood asset in brewing. Research yeast outside of brewing lines to learn more. Brewing communities have no clue about yeast, propagation and performance. Start your journey with aerobic and anaerobic respiration search terms. Beer people aren't dumb, just misinformed.
