The Heavy Cargo Javelin is by all means much worse to pull apart than any Gecko

10:40 Funny that the game lets you sell a Nuclear Reactor that's melting down
I always wanted the Factorio ones to blow up if mis-handled - Maybe in this, you could buy Control Rods, or do something mechanical to the Reactor to "safe" it before selling it.
And the way props can be chained together with grapples is pretty entertaining!

Well if you wanted realism ....
Reactors of that size can't usually meltdown in real life anyway. Square cube law just means the heat is radiated away faster than it's made.
Then again future reactors are almost certainly going to have a molten core by design, either molten salt or molten metal but those can't melt down either (since they already are molten by design) although in zero gravity the safeties would have to work differently, these reactors are currently designed and imagined to be secured by gravity.
The point is that this is about gameplay and preparation and urgency is what they were going for.

The barge does all the magic required to stabilize the reactor, that's how it's explained in-game and really all you need.
The intent behind the mechanic is in the time challenge, that's all there's to it.
