This song is about the war between Common Law enshrined rights of man and the unlawfulness of Admiralty Law.
    This battle rages even today.

Goddamn yankee propoganda. We British never ran only made slow stratigic withdrawls.
It was the artillery of pirate Jean LaFitte that won the battle, Not Jackson's yankee infantry

So what do you think of Sink the Bismarck? Very popular American song about what the British had to do. America wasn't even in the war at the time !

I can confirm what Ms. Donavan said. Tommy Horton is my uncle. The sister that Ms. Donavan speaks of is my mother. Tommy has never claimed to be the son of Johnny Horton! Tommy has worked at playing music his entire life! Where he is at this point in his life is because of hard work and GOD given talent!

The gentleman hit it! There's been a mistake on the title. It was indeed Jimmy Driftwood who wrote this song but it was Johnny Horton who,IMHO,did the best job singing it and the name Tommy Horton is a typo.Thank you for the treat.

    • @robertawalsh2995
      @robertawalsh2995 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Nope, that's not a typo. Maybe Johnny Horton did the best job singing the song, but this is Tommy Horton. Does this video look pre-1960 to you? Johnny Horton died in 1960. Tommy Horton was a regular on the Louisiana Hayride out of Shreveport, Louisiana, in the 1970's.

In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip'
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
We looked down a river and we see'd the British come
And there must have been a hundred of 'em beatin' on the drum
They stepped so high and they made their bugles ring
We stood behind our cotton bales and didn't say a thing
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Old Hickory said, "We could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked 'em in the eye"
We held our fire 'til we see'd their faces well
Then we opened up our squirrel guns and gave 'em
Well, we fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Yeah, they ran through the briers and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round
We filled his head with cannonballs 'n' powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind
We fired our guns and the British kept a-comin'
There wasn't as many as there was a while ago
We fired once more and they began to runnin'
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
Yeah, they ran through the briers and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
On down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico
    Hut, two, three, four
    Sound off, three, four
    Hut, two, three, four
    Sound off, three, four
    Hut, two, three, four
    Hut, two, three, four

Please read my answer on the next page! Tommy Horton is his real name, but he is NOT related to Johnny Horton. Johnny was living in California for many years during the time when tommy was born in Brownwood, TX. Tommy has one sister. Tommy and his real father are absolute lookalikes. Johnny Horton's daughters live close to Texarkana, and will testify they have no brother. Please read my other post.

It isnt a lie at all, Napoloen faced the allied armies under the command of Lord Wellesey at Waterloo. If any of the armies had failed then the French would have won. If the British line had not held the battle would have been over. It was a close run thing.

@TheFulcherman The British troops in that song are the very same troops who defeated Napoleon's army at Waterloo, just months before. The very same guys.
It's an actual historical event, although not quite as told in the song.

    • @maunsell24
      @maunsell24 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Not many 'same guys'. Only the 4th Foot (one battalion) was present at both battles.
The 44th was split: the 1st battalion went to New Orleans and the 2nd to Waterloo.

  • @helenislas7348

Old Hickory was General Jackson, the point is the ol' American boys took them through the forests because the British were out of their element and therefore having the advantage, well, they kicked ass! The Brits came back with thousands more taking the White House by burning it down, yes this was the Battle of New Orleans, 1814. The historical song written by a history teacher became very famous and Johnny putting it to music; is just a classic.

+Alwyn Dellow Jackson marched from Tennessee with an army of milita men down south. On his way back up his men started calling him old hickory due to how tough and relentless he was during the march. Hickory is notoriously a very hard wood.

      Helen Islas
      woe your horses Sister Helen,
a few good ol boys from Canada burned down the Whitehouse not the Brits
... there is a big difference, you know!
The Canucks did this because in 1790 the Americans burned down
The Parliament Buildings that once stood in Toronto Ontario Canada
at what is now the corner of Parliament St. and Front St.
      Same in America
      Same in Canada
      ... Canada is already toast
... America is hanging on by a thread
      Christian Persecution Worldwide
      ... nothing new
I like the music and the vocals
Lord Jesus the Christ my saviour
      Amen Amen and Amen

... you can cast it out any time you want
it will eventually destroy you and your loved ones and put you into poverty
it will not stop even after it has taken all of what you have unless you stop it

Ol' Hickory was a devout Southern Baptist God fearing Christian.
He prayed every morning for the Almighty to help him.

Is it just the antique audio, or is the bass really as badly out-of-tune as it sounds?

Who's singing it? Johnny died in 1960

Tommy Horton is singing it. Tommy Horton was a regular on the Louisiana Hayride out of Shreveport, Louisiana, in the 1970's.

Again, people who need rescuing are the ones who get in there 1st and act.
Rescuers stand about watching until the last minute then dive in and claim hero status.
Fine, if that's what you want, just don't deny it.
Don't get me wrong, I have full respect for anyone who fought and died in WW2, anything after that is nothing more than warmongering.
Iraq? Afghanistan? Come on, what a fucking mess

Clapping hands doesn't make a good song - no, not at all!
Could not understand why he named himself "TOMMY HORTON" - is he Johnny's son or nephew - or simply a "Trittbrettfahrer" - as the Germans say?

Wikipedia reports that Johnny Horton never had a son.

    • @robertawalsh2995
      @robertawalsh2995 2 ปีที่แล้ว

That's because Johnny Horton didn't have a son. He had daughters. Tommy Horton didn't claim to be Johnny Horton's son.
