There are 8 classical dances in India & this is one of them & people start learning them as early as 3 years of age. It takes at least 7 to 14 years to perfectly learn these dance forms. Due to the music you may not know but the banging of the feet on the floor is so hard that it seems as if they are clapping with their feet.
Bharatha Natyam is the ancient dance form of India, believed to have come directly from the Divine. And is well presented ,practiced mostly in South India. The dance is clearly structured and codified. All the parts of the body is used to emote the required to depict human( acts) ,Godly form or the Elements of Nature, animals, emotions etc to convey an Epic or a story etc.

all dance movements, gestures ( mudras) and postures depict a specific thing, emotion and story. not just hands but eyes! there are books that teach you about each gesture in Indian classical dance and what it denotes. 🙏 so proud of our heritage - which subconsciously permeates into our being and help us sense these complex arts with such an ease!
The Nāṭya Śāstra (Sanskrit: नाट्य शास्त्र, Nāṭyaśāstra) is a Sanskrit text on the performing arts. The title of the text is composed of two words, "Nāṭya" and "Śhāstra". The root of the Sanskrit word Natya is Nat (नाट) which means "act, represent". The word Shastra (शास्त्र) means "precept, rules, manual, compendium, book or treatise", and is generally used as a suffix in the Indian literature context, for knowledge in a defined area of practice. The text is attributed to sage Bharata Muni, and its first complete compilation is dated to between 200 BCE and 200 CE, but estimates vary between 800 BCE and 500 BCE. The text consists of 36 chapters with a cumulative total of 6000 poetic verses describing performance arts. The subjects covered by the treatise include dramatic composition, structure of a play and the construction of a stage to host it, genres of acting, body movements, make up and costumes, role and goals of an art director, the musical scales, musical instruments and the integration of music with art performance. The Nāṭya Śāstra is notable as an ancient encyclopedic treatise on the arts, one which has influenced dance, music and literary traditions in India. It is also notable for its aesthetic "Rasa" theory, which asserts that entertainment is a desired effect of performance arts but not the primary goal, and that the primary goal is to transport the individual in the audience into another parallel reality, full of wonder, where he experiences the essence of his own consciousness, and reflects on spiritual and moral questions. The text has inspired secondary literature such as Sanskrit bhasya (reviews and commentaries) such as by the 10th century Abhinavagupta.
" There is no branch og knowledge, no discipline of art or craft, no action, nothing in this universe that can't be emotionally well articulated by Natyam"
Dhanashree Thilaana (this song) and Swans of Saraswati are two absolute gems from Agam I would recommend anyday. For another cultural tidbit: The house this video is filmed in seems to be a naalukettu, a traditional style of architecture where four blocks of the house open into a central courtyard. This provides for excellent ventillation and helps maintain the temperature in tropical Kerala. Naalukettu (litterally 4 blocks) and its larger variants, ettukettu (8 blocks) and pathinaarukettu (16 blocks) are some of the famous examples of the tacchu shastram (the science of building things). Old tharavdus, or ancestral homes of these styles are found all around kerala, some very well maintained and some in shambles, but even the ruins exude a magnetic charm that captivates.
There are INDn classical dance forms where you put a mound of coloured dust and dance over it and at the end of the dance you get a picture of a dancing peacock or some other form. It's just crazy, the synchronization, the precision, it's mind boggling.
8:46 they are portraying God Vishnu (as Vishnu lays on Sheshnaag. he is also called as Padmanabha as sung in the song (here Padma= lotus and Nabhi= navel) It is believed that at the dawn of creation, Lord Vishnu was sleeping on the primordial Ekarnav ocean. From the navel of Vishnu, one lotus emerged, in which Lord Brahma, the creator of our universe, was born. Therefore, Lord Vishnu is called Padmanabh. “Padmanaabha Tumhaari Leela, kya kahoon main, saawaro, thaap sankat haranayo, soha mhaaro tumaharo” - He is talking about the greatness of Lord Padmanabha, and requesting him to take away all the pains, and confessing that Padmanabha is the ultimate happiness.

Indian classical dances were created mainly prayer for god, deities etc. They are lyrically meaningful and graceful of body languages (specifically women) 🥰. Btw enjoy your reaction👍☺
The thillana sung is a recording of Agam band rendition. The dancers dance to this song played. The anklets of the dancers with foot movements syncs with the rythms of the drums
Being someone living in modern era, sometimes I too feel that there is no need of religion or of concepts of divinity now..and in fact the same is happening around the world including Indian societies. But eventually I realize how beautifully these magnificent Indian aesthetics like music, dance, sculpture, philosophy, martial arts, spirituality, grammar etc have got evolved around and are intertwined with religion,I cry. Because It's disheartening to see these beauties gradually disappearing as relevance of religious beliefs continues to diminish in younger Indian masses.
The classical artist world is completely different... They are directly connected to the religion and beliefs..odissi is from Jagannath, shatriya from Shri Krishna same for Manipuri.. Bharatnatyam comes from Shiv Shakti...one cannot learn a classical dance form without being sound of Hinduism... Second every 5 houses in middle class family the children are taught classical dance or singing as extra curricular activities...how are so sure things are disappearing...Shilpa Kala has always been there and will always be. Also the number who will know this and take it forward will be a less number even in the past it was only selected talented people who were given to keep the crown of this art and hence it will always be a limited number. It won't vanish don't worry. Also religion is like a lifestyle. If you are enjoying a festival like Durga Puja or Ganpati festival you bow and ask for blessings from the almighty that way even the people with less religious nature are also living a good life. Knowledge is vast, every one cannot learn everything. The knowledge a priest has about a religion won't be same for a scientist. But it's always like a safe pillow to consider that there is someone who will support us even at bad times and that's the one we believe the supreme power, till the time human will survive they will need the supreme power either with fear or with love. That's human nature, you might be of any religion this thing states truth of human dependency. Even atheist needs to believe what they only see by eyes and that says a lot, they are believing in something like the religious people who are believing in almighty. Lol it became an essay somehow

Acting is a big part of Indian classical dance. So much so that the words for acting and dancing in Sanskrit are the same: “Natyam”. Hence, the treatise that Indian classical dance is based on is also called the “Natya Shastra”

Please do react to 'oru murai vanthu parthaya' its song so rich in culture in both music and dance perspective, the song is sung by 2 legends of malayalam film industry, and the dancer is one of the well known dancer and actress in India, and she has won 2 national awards for acting in this movie.
I think this is Bharatnatyam. All classical singing and dancing are God-oriented. There are 8 different styles of classical dance in India - bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Oddisi, Kathakali, Kathak (Lakhnawi and Jaipuri lineages) Manipuri, Mohini and Satiya
In Bharatnatyam you squat because your center of gravity is low. Hence you squat. Each hand jesture has a meaning to it which enhances the performance and feelings of the dancer. The dance is inspired by the sculptures carved on ancient Hindu temples.
When this video came up I wrote in their comments section WALESKA AND EFRA should REACT to this and got heart from them...TODAY MY WORDS CAME TRUE... I am happy tos ee your reaction guys🤍
Classical dance is about expressions through hands and face. It expresses words and stories through dance If you see temples there are carvings on stones of these
India is a universe in itself. For the uninitiated, it is a vast expanse of the unexplored. U can find somethinh new as u round every corner. Quite literally
The choreographer is the lead dancer as well for this piece. By looks of it, she was the one in the center of the group and was the one for whom Efra commented about her perfect body line when she stood in a firm angular pose.
Indian classical dances were created to tell the stories from Hindu mythologies through dance. That's the reason why facial expressions are given more importance.
It will be great if you also react to (Bhari Bhari) it's a kathak based dance, also the song is sung by Sherya Gohshal... Also to Pranavalay danced by non other than Sai Pallavi a legend, it is a bharatnatyam based dance, I am sure you guys will be amazed reacting to both master pieces...
EDM Tarangam is another beautiful fusion clip of Kuchipudi dance form. Over 1 million views. Totally mesmerizing to see the artists dancing on plates...
Guys....this is what i call a reaction is......OZM MAAAN maybe its coz u guys r into music which is why u recognize about alternative rock ,tabla ,this signature and every other comment on dance itself...thank you for this wonderful reaction
Guys, please put the source link in your video description for the stuff you react to, so that we can watch that video and support the original artists as well.
You guys are genius doing what you do ! So grateful to you. Bharatnatyam is a ancient dance form practised with spiritual habits , so please be little respectful while reacting
This is a kind of cool fusion music. In Classical Carnatic music, the main instruments are Mridangam, Harmonium, Flute, Ghatam, Veenai, Violin, Tamboori. I think there may be Mridangam used here and not tabla. I am not sure. Lol, no guitars, drums!
The dance form is called 'Bharatnatyam'. It's one of the most ancient dance forms in India. The word Bharatnatyam is mix of 4 words. Those are - 1. Bha which is Bhava is expression. 2. Ra which is Raga is music. 3. Ta which is Taal is rythym and 4. Natyam which means dance. In Indian classical dancing you just don't dance with your feet and hands but even with your face as well and that's also incorporated in Bollywood dancing as well.
In this case you have been referring the percussion to be Tabla. It is not Tabla but side-by-side instrument dhol/dholak or mridangam and that is why the sound is different. Every palm gesture might have a meaning and is called a mudra. The song itself is describing a girl dancing in a particular way.
You guys are majorly missing " SHIV TANDAV STORTAM" by Ravana. It's a beautiful and a very very powerful song about Lord Shiva written in Sanskrit that legit purifies you from within. You guys should definetly listen to it.
U can also react to the Punjabi folk dance form "Bhangra". (I am talking about the original folk bhangra with live folk singing and live music.. Not on recorded songs. )

The first Dancer in Cosmic terms is Lord "Nataraja". CERN in Geneva has His big Icon displayed outside its complex. The Idol was gifted to them by India. Nobel Laureate and physicist Dr. Fritijof Capra calls Nataraja's Dance, the representation of the movement of sub-atomic particles in his book The Tao of Physics. Fritjof Capra mentions this idea in his book “ The Tao of Physics”. Just as Nataraja's (Lord Shiva) dance embodies cycles of life like creation and destruction, birth and death, same thing happens at the quantum level. You must visit "Chidambaram" temple in Tamil Nadu.
Glad you like the video. IMHO don't pause the videos - you kind of miss the total picture. Another thing if you guys translate even a wee bit of what is being sung, it will amaze you even more👍

The choreographer is the lead dancer as well for this piece. By looks of it, she was the one in the center of the group and was the one for whom Efra commented about her perfect body line when she stood in a firm angular pose.

Indian classical dance and indian classical music is way ahead in times and meaning. This is ancient as well as very advanced at the same time.
Indian classical dances were created to tell the stories from Hindu mythologies through dance. That's the reason why facial expressions are given more importance.

Those are -
1. Bha which is Bhava is expression.
2. Ra which is Raga is music.
3. Ta which is Taal is rythym and

React on more and more on Indian folk dance , classical dance it's ocean of knowledge to learn about ancient dance from India

You’ve already seen this song from Agam. Yes, this was a live performance, not a studio recording.
Devotional songs and mainly south Indian devotional songs are sooo rich in music... obviously because they follow core classical rules.

In INDIA EVERY STATE HAS A "SPECIAL DANCE"
