I drove past a local Tesla dealer the other day. And I was amazed at the pile of worn out tires in the back of the dealer service area. They eat through tires big time.
I drove past a Firestone service center and was shocked at the amount of used up tires they had scattered all over. You wouldn’t believe the amount of tires cars go through.
@@AutoAuctionRebuildswhen ever you ready to get rid of it send it my way I'll put it on my channel saying you gave me a free project car
That's just any EV in general. The tires weigh more which causes the tires to wear done a lot more quickly then a regular ICE vehicle.
Instant, full torque at any speed is addictive🤠
Thats what happens when you floor it all the time. My EV is at 100K miles and its only ever had two sets of tires. First ones lasted to 58K. My current set has at least another 30K on them.
This is still my dream car. After 200k miles and 8 years of EV ownership I am still waiting to get a Tesla and am aiming for a 2016 Model S 90D. Should be able to find one with free unlimited supercharging and it has a lot of the revisions by the 2016.5 model years to fix motor, battery, door handle, and other problems that were infamous for the first few years.
I replaced my PTC heater a couple years ago. I had to remove the passenger knee air bag, glovebox and associated items to allow the PTC heater to slide out. The wood interior trim above the glove box didnt need to be removed. I unbolted and reused the existing high voltage wires from the defective PTC so I didnt have to run the replacement wires to the DC to DC converter.
Great tip!
Most of us have never seen a Tesla up close. And never ever seen how it's constructed. So I love your inspection. Just to have an idea how the car works. Based on your assessment it looks like someone took out the full battery pack.
Uhh rich Rebuilds would disagree 😂😂
@@miguelvega7769that guy is a fraud
Great video guys!
Man! That is unbelievable that a 10 year old car with close to 300,000
miles, that spent its whole life in the Northeast is in that good of condition. WOW!
Taking the car to Tesla for a diagnostic check sounds like the way to go.
I'm looking forward to the next video.
The whole body is aluminum.
As previously suggested, take it to Tesla for basic diagnostic, welfare inspection.
So much of this vehicle is modular therefore often not extremely complicated to replace repair.
Many/most modules are too complicated to home rebuild without Tesla specific vendor parts, test tools, quality values, and/or computer software upgrades.
Follow every safety precaution/advice working with high voltage DC is more hazardous than AC.
love to see mike and Randy working on cars they sure make a good team does are real friends god bless you all
Tesla Model S and X have a standard OBD-II port under the dash. While the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y lack a standard port, there is a connector at the base of the center console accessible from the back seat where there is access to the CAN bus.
12 pin, I think, the cable to OBD Bluetooth adapter for ScanMyTesla is as low as $13.
You should look at the blower motor and see if it’s even in there they might have taken out the old one and never put a new one back in
this tesla is in real good shape for the age and mileage. hopefully the dc to dc inventer is easy to replace. great video randy and glad mike is there. maybe send it to tesla and let them look at it.
Looking forward to the next video about the Tessie!
We found a shorted IGBT in the PTC heater module. Replaced the device and fitted a new 40A fuse and not had any issues. The simple fuse replacement was a challenge in the 2017S due to its location.
Wow,what an impressive video I was more than surprised that how well they are made and how well you navigated around the electrical circulty .Looking forward to the next installment.
Shows how little you know. The early Model S is proven to be extremely unreliable and poorly designed and built. Need a source to prove your pure ignorance and arrogance? Just hang out on the owner forums.
Yes you are right I know nothing about theTesla I was commenting on the remarks that Randy made about the build quality and the fact that the car has travelled nearly 300,000 miles, not bad I would say for a car thats unreliable and poorly made and built. You my friend are the ignorant and arrogant one.@@JetFire9
Randy, just do the Oklahoma red neck repair. Blower motor to switch under the dash.
Duble check-up rezistor and new blower
I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for both of you, love your teamwork. 😊👍
Are we ever getting to the invertor?
I absolutely loved this video Randy, I learned a lot thank you! Great to see Mike again even though I'm subscribed to him too.
Love it Randy, the guys back together. Love it.
Why do you think it’s the inverter? Just measure the 12V and see that it’s charging. Discinect the fan motor and test if it has voltage. Test the motor with 12V from a battery (strap it in a vice). Then ypu know… No need to throw parts on it.
Well said. Exactly my point as well.
It is always such a pleasure to see you two guys together!
What a funnnnnn video! Learned a lot about working on Teslas! 🤘🏽🔥😀 Can't wait for the next video!
You missed a trick there Mike, as Randy touched the electrical connection you drop some thing noisy on the floor …classic workshop joke 😁😁
You should get those license plate border frames, they put on a car at dealerships with your TH-cam channel because that would really help promote the channel and people would know at the auction ,that they're getting a car that somebody put a lot of work into🎉
Thanks for the video, Randy.
I like the DIY approach Randy! Let's me fix things on my Tesla too. Much appreciated!
You guys work awesome together
Woe randy I’m l surprised how you couldn’t fix stuff so good! Hopefully you get to charge it soon too! Keep it up Randy, love the content as ALWAYS! Love that MWM is working on it too 😂 after that Nissan video
Nice to see you and Monkey wrench Mike working together. 😎😎👍👍
Randy, I thought this was a great video. It's good to see new things.
Great video and work guys😀🔥
Great comedy team (again) and the occasional BZZZZZT really tops it off - lolz - nice going - but really Randy, you know far more than the average Tesla guru. Thx for sharing and keep Mike on your vids - I think this is really interesting to see this Tesla with over 300k on it - and looking at the overall on it - great content
As Biil Clinton would say, " I feel your pain". On a positive note, it's always good to see Randy and Mike together.
Randy you an Monkey Wrench Mike are the best team an i pretty much only watch yall along with Santa an i sure hope that Monkey gets 100k subscribers by the end of 2024 . Yall rock
I have faith in Monkey wrench Mike hitting 100k by the end of the year 😊
You guy's are fun to watch. Awesome show
Rich Rebuilds/Electrified Garage knows this car inside and out. Reach out to them
This looks like newer generation of battery because you have the service cover for the DC battery fuse on the battery in the front right. Originally the fuse was on top of the battery so you had to in case to access it, remove the battery from the car. In case you're interested you can check the label from the battery, its in the front right wheel arch.
Plus AC water would get in the port and fry the battery
Good video, having Tesla check it would be interesting 🤔
Nice job guys. It's just heating and air, you'll figure it out.
Air filter envy.
LOL
@@AutoAuctionRebuildsthey have a KN also, I just upgraded
A contender for the use of Rust Check/Fluid Film/Krown rust protectant for the suspension components for owners who live in the salt belt.
love this one randy!
Hey randy the high voltage ground is isolated from the 12volt ground of the car . . Basically the orange with red it Hv +. And orange is ground .
@Auto Auction Rebuilds there is the service mode you can access on the screen on the Tesla on the screen go to software then it will show the cars name Tesla model S P85 hold that for about 10-20 seconds then a box should appear then type in the box service
Mike seems like a cool guy, he'd obviously be pretty entertaining to work on a car with.
I really want one of these as a commuter!
What if they took out the fan and never replaced it
honest evaluation
Get ahold of Rich rebuild and ask him what to do next
Check all of the bolts that hold the battery in place because they are known for loosening up and dropping off while driving
The suspension noise is the front swarbar connection point.
This wasn't a waste. It was content.😂
So is it the DC inverter? Guess we’ll find out once we get the results of the Tesla run diagnostic test. More importantly, what is current range of this 300 000 Tesla, and how does it compare to the original claimed range?
I have always wondered what it would be like to maintain an Electric Vehicle. We’re about to see how it’s done
Randy the audio is all messed up on your video today your lips move but I cannot hear what you say😂😂
That's your internet lol. I just watched the video and there's nothing wrong with it. Maybe turn the volume up?
you can use service mode to get info for the car. Go to software, hold your finger on the model number and enter service when ask for the code.
Thanks but I already know how to use service mode.
you can do the Bjorn Nyland fix (eco-flow battery + household heater)
@NICEGRAM-AutoAuctionRebuilds2you're a bot
Woo-hoo you said Kentucky my beautiful state great video
Great video Mike I loved it. As a preacher's kid it was funny to watch. Of course we never had vehicles like that but we had what we needed to get from point A to point B. My dad was a pastor for almost 52 years before he passed. Keep up the great work and videos.
My name is Randy and what are you talking about?
@@AutoAuctionRebuilds sorry I was typing after I watched Minkey Wrench Mike's video and it jumped to yours after I finished his and I guess it sent to you instead of him. Yes I know your name is Randy i watch all of your videos as well as his
Randy did you sell the cars that you listed on copart
Hi guys I recon your right Randy someone been there before I bet they sold it due to that inverter going down
Doesn't your Autel or one of your scan tools have an option to diagnose Teslas? I know my Launch X431 does, but I don't know the capabilities of it since I've never done diagnosis on a Tesla.
I wish it was warmer where we are in Illinois but nope it is supposed to be below freezing next week.
I'm already up here lol.
22:38 You didn't check positive to negative? What if the HV side is made to be fully isolated from the chassis so either side can short without immediate trouble?
Diag mode or service mode in the console. could help a lot without tesla service center.
service mode you will see a lot of options and setting you normally will not see or be able to change. plenty of yt vids on how to enter.
How much is the battery for the Tesla?
Try a reset procedure my Mercedes I had to do a reset on the hvac system
My 2017 100d will hit 200K before the unlimited mile warranty runs out in two years. Nothing has been done to it, one page car fax. Things break….but let’s be honest after hitting 120k miles a little 2k in maintenance is ok. Brake jobs and a new set of tires could cost that much unless people budget shop or DIY.
Mike keeps saying ok 😂😂😂
Love it the videos ❤😂
No fan? Could it be the blower motor resistor?
What is the heating problem with Tesla?
Over 26,000 Model S, X, 3, and Y vehicles from the 2021 and 2022 model years are included in the recall. The problem is due to faulty software that can cause a valve within a heat pump to stay open, according to documents Tesla provided to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).Feb 9, 2022
Hi Randy, I hope that this can help you to fix the heat in your Tesla ! Enjoy
Unfortunately these older Tesla's did not have heat pumps. They utilize a PTC heater instead. I appreciate the info though!
Hi Randy and Mike
I've done that on a honda Ridgeline lol the switch 😂
Why not put in another blower motor and resistor. They could be defective it’s definitely happened to me and plenty of others.
The stain on the inverter might be left over spray cleaner. from the last guy working on it?
Looks like we need a collab with rich rebuils
You better post the Tesla dealer video, the shop there will be 6 guys in suits letting you order what you want by check marks.
I have a 2016 kia Sorento and the wiring harness to the blower melted and they want $4,900 to fix it and I can't afford it so driving it without it 😢
UBER MAN LOL GOOD TO SEE YOUR NEW CHANNEL BRO LOL! I KNOW IT'S BEEN LIKE WHAT 2 3 YEARS LOL.
Any more update on the Tesla
always plug the HV battery back in before plugging the 12v back in. it will throw codes and flip out if you dont.
Thanks for the info.
When I saw you too would work on a Tesla, I expected Mike would be electrocuted. There’s some Laurel and Hardy about some of your videos but in a much funnier way. More videos together please.
Monkey Wrench Mike needs to carry jump pack and look at more cars. Teach him thing or two. Other than that he's great on video
An inverter is a device that converts DC to AC. A DC-to-DC converter can be a boost (raise the DC voltage) or buck (reduce the DC voltage). Is there any such thing as a DC-to-DC inverter? Guess you could call a boost or buck DC converter feeding the input of an inverter that.
At 300,000 miles it has done well. Problem will be when that battery shits itself you can write it off.
If it’s engulfed in flames how is a fireman going to cut that loop?
If it's enhulfed in flames that loop isn't going to do anything anyway. Its really just meant to decrease fire risk after an major incident.
Just so you know there is a "jack mode" on the screen your supposed to enable before jacking it up.
I knew about it and I used it
Did you ever look into seeing if the car still has a Tesla warranty??
In the beginning Tesla was offering warranties with, Unlimited Kilometer or Miles driven.
The Firemans Loop, should definitely be in a more accessible location.
A standard heater core running lines off of the battery cooling system, would have been way simpler for Tesla, then have a grid heater for back up heat.
You know from previous experience, Tesla and water leaks go hand-in-hand.

Take it to maytag for repairs. It's just a dryer with wheels
When is the Prius Video?
Good morning Randy and Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike. Working on the Tesla Model S P85. Trying to get the ac and heater working.
Somebody teed off the Tesla!😮😮😊
All I can say is “I wish you good luck “.
Did he ever run one of those 24-hour battery health tests to see the condition of the battery?
It's never a fail if you learn something and in the case of an EV, you don't electrocute yourself!
I think you must have error in app and can see there what is wrong with the car 😊
Take it too Tesla 😛
I would not dare to park or charge a electric car in the garage ,most insurance companys have apar policys / conditions for that ,so be carefull randy
In the netherlands you pay extra for house (fire i)nsurance when owning a electric vechicle because of that an additional 170dollar more
Interesting information. But I’d Never get an EV. Even at a discount! 🏍💨🏍💨
