Chevy My Link Screen went black (FIX)

My Link screen on my 2015 Camaro went completely black one day and the screen worked, I just couldn't see anything. Here is how I fixed it. Step1: Disconnect the negative battery cable from your battery, then the positive(red). Battery is located in the trunk where the spare tire would be. Wait a few minutes before reconnecting. When reconnecting, connect positive cable first and connect the negative cable last. For window reprogramming, watch the steps on the video. Please help our channel grow by clicking the Subscribe Button. Thank you for watching and i hope we were able to help.
Here is my other video describing how to disconnect the battery

Hey man, thanks so much. I was on the road from NJ to Florida when my screen went blank, none of the other fixes worked for me either. Disconnecting the battery worked. Nothing worse than having a 20 hr drive & being blind on your Mylink screen.

Dude, you are a champion...I had a similar issue and I did it as you said and worked like s charm. When I took it to the dealer he said let’s replace it and the new one would cost $1200 including labor charges.

Thanx dude! I owe you a beer. The screen on my 2013 Camaro went blank the other day. After trying turning off/rebooting the car, leaving the door open for 20 minutes, checking the fuse, I asked The Google and it brought me to your neat chatty, blow by blow video. Nice touch including the window reprogramming steps. Greatly appreciate your help and time in making the video

Bro thank you so much. I have a 2017 Chevy Malibu and this happened to me about 3 weeks ago. Chevy told me the fix can cost upwards of $1100. I went out got some tools ($60) worth in order to try out your method of disconnecting the battery. And it worked! Your a life saver. Thank you brother

Had the exact same symptoms. This worked for me! Battery is in the trunk under the spare. Remove -ve then +ve, then wait 10 mins and replace +ve then -ve. Had to do the window thing as mentioned in video. Thanks so much for posting!!

Dude. I spoke with Onstar (who said they could do a reset) and wasted about 20 minutes. They eventually said take it to a dealer for repair. I took it to the dealer, who wanted $175 to "Diagnose" the issue, not counting actually fixing it. I promptly went back home and did Google. Your video was the first to come up. Went out, found the battery (lol, didn't know it was in the trunk), unconnected the negative, smoked a cig, reconnected, and Boom! Everything was right back to normal. The car guided me through resetting the windows and I was done. Thank you for this video! I kinda feel like I should send you some of that $175 you saved me from the Dealer.

I want to thank you for this video! I had the same exact issues as you. The radio screen black, but everything else was functioning. Although I read all of the positive comments I still was hesitant to do it. Took it to the dealership thinking it wasn’t going to be that expensive. They told me it would cost me $2,000, because they didn’t know the exact pieces I needed to fix my screen. I took my car home, and figured I would just give it a try. It worked and I didn’t have to reprogram my windows!!!! Thank you so much!!!

    • @EddiesCustomsandRestorations
      @EddiesCustomsandRestorations  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Chauntel Ferdinand yes ofcourse, go to your trunk, clear out everything you have in the trunk
Once you have done so, lift the whole floor out of the trunk. Try to stick your fingers in on of the corners of the trunk floor and lift up. It's a thin cardboard like panel. (This is where a spare tire would be in the typical car, camaros however, do not come with one. Once you have done this step, you will now see the battery. Disconnect the black cable using a 10 mm wrench if I'm not mistaking. Leave it this way for several minutes then plug it back on.

I went with a black screen for an entire year with this issue. After I saw this video I still had my doubts being how I had to mess with the battery and all. Well it worked!! Unplugged negative connection first then positive connection, left it disconnected for about ten minutes then reconnected battery once again. Turned on my car and could not believe that I had a working screen again. Plus I didn't have to reprogram the windows either. Thank you for this video.

My 2017 Chevy My Link screen went black. Everything still worked. The radio had sound and you could touch the screen and operate the system but no picture on screen. I took two fuses out at the same time (radio - F42 and display - F39). They were not blown but waited, put them back in after 10 minutes, and the screen came back on. NOTE: When I took the radio out alone, the screen was still black. I hope it helps.

@@classylady2279 no need to laugh at someone who is trying to fix their car. Its the effort that is nice to see coming from a girl. So what you want to do is go to your trunk, clear it all, you will see a black circular plastic which is locked in place. Turn it counter clock wise and it will unscrew. Then you are going to pull up this big panel that that was holding down. This will now expose the spare tire area. If you have a spare tire there, the battery is right under it. Then it should be either a 10mm or 11mm socket size that you will use on the next step. Locate the black cable which is your ground, then where the cable meets the battery post you should see a little screw head there that is going to be one of those sizes I just mentioned. Loosen by turning the screw counter clockwise. Once loose, remove the cable completely from the battery post so it is no longer touching the battery post. Then same process with the red. Leave it alone for 10 minutes and then come back and reconnect and put everything back together. Sorry for the late response.

I have a 2018 chevy equinox LT and i have only had it for 6 months when i got it, it only had 41,000 miles .... My My link quit working and I found you and some others, i did find the how to reset my link which did not work, i also tried removing the fuse ( that is not burned out) waiting 10 minutes and replacing it both with my vehical turned off and again turned on ( in my book it only shows o e for the radio under the dash up front F42 i think it is, its at the bottom of the pannel under the dash.) Then i watched this one that said to remove the battery cable and i tried that and then i found yet another that says to unplug the blue plug on the passenger side... I tried all of this and none of it worked. Is there anything else i can try before i give up and take it to the dealership?
It was working when i got out of the car but then when i got back in the next morning it would not even turn on. No sound or anything, screens is black. I tried to reset using the onstar button this also did not work.

Victoria Vela to disconnect the battery, you go to where your spare tire would be. Empty out your trunk, lift up on the carpet panel (floor of the trunk) to gain access to where the spare tire would be. The battery is down there. Once you get there, you will see the battery. Disconnect the black cable with a 10 mm socket and ratchet if I remember correctly. Leave it that way for several minutes. Then reconnect it. Do not over tighten the screw. Just snug.

Just to add another experience with a black screen. My 2019 Traverse did this. Total black screen but radio was audible, I could touch the screen where buttons would normally be and it would respond. Radio button would turn it on and off but no effect on volume level when I turned it. I just turned the vehicle off for 20 min, came back and the entire MyLink display turned on when I restarted. Go figure. Someone mentioned it's the sign of a failing battery. Makes me wonder.
