The noises and fireworks during new year is a tradition. It came from the belief that the noises will drive away bad/evil luck. Also, it is much much more calm now. Years ago, strong fire crackers aren't banned and there are bazooka-like tubes (boga)that are very loud (a friend fired one and I was standing near him. It felt like I was punched in the chest aside from ringing ears).New Year's eve were really loud and scary before. Hospitals are full of firecracker related incidents even before the new year's eve came. Also, the firecrackers were very loud and strong, sounded like bombs going off. It really felt like a warzone.😅

this is so true. back then fire works and fire crackers were not so much regulated by the government that literally every place you go is like a total war zone. Then 2 days after the newyear (January 2), all you can see in the News were the people who lost their hands in full graphic color. They show this to scare people away from using fire crackers.
True. Little by little the fireworks seems less than previous years due to local government discouraging people from lighting fireworks to prevent injuries and to lessen pollution.
We were in Manila on New Year's eve of 2012-2013 . We were also amazed looking out from the window of our condo unit . Unfortunately , we had a terrible cough attack the day after , which led to bronchitis and we were both hospitalized( my husband and I). I am just stating this so that readers can be aware that if you have weak lungs or maybe not used to the smoke emanated by those fireworks, better stay away from manila around New Year's season . Otherwise Enjoy the fireworks 🎉👍
Wow, I'm one of the earliest to comment again..Anyway, like what I've mentioned on your shorts yesterday, I'm so pleased to see you experienced the loud, noisy yet very happy celebration on the new year's eve. Before, it used to be more insane. But firecrackers are a bit more expensive nowadays and some fireworks restrictions were also bestowed on a few cities in the metro. But I hope you really did enjoy your first-ever encounter of this one-of-a-kind celebration you won't see anywhere else in the world. Looking forward to seeing your new adventures this January!
I'm one of your subscriber from Canada and I miss spending New Year there, I think the best place to celebrate this occasion for me. Filipinos believe that making noise in New Year get rid of bad lucks and bad spirit. Happy New Year and I wish you all the best in 2023, more success in youtube!!
We were in BGC on 5th ave at the center of the countdown. Fireworks lasted for 20 minutes. There are also fireworks in the uptown area. Do you know that there's a fireworks and firecrackers ban but in spite of this, they can't take away how we celebrate the new year here. Each city had they're own fireworks display. Happy new year!

Back in the days when firecrackers weren't regulated and sellers didn't need license, the streets are super crazy from 6pm till dawn. Kids will literally throw firecrackers your way as a pedestrian. I miss those days because you can really feel the celebration of new year for hours but there are far less firecracker injuries these days and the streets are much safer until 10pm than before. Happy New Year, Wistl Fam.
When I was a kid (early 2000s) Its 20x more chaotic during New Year's Eve. People are literally being told not to travel at night because people are already setting off fireworks and crackers around 5 pm. I remember we literally have to shout because it was so noisy. Your NYE experience here is actually quite tapered off compared to what we had 15 to 20 years ago - back then it was actually dangerous to drive between 10PM to 2AM on NYE due to the insane amount of firecrackers that people lit back in the day (you'd have whole neighborhoods of people privately stocking up on pyro as if in an arms race with their neighbors) not to mention the stray bullets people used to fire into the air at midnight - a practice that they thankfully cracked down on in recent years). I grew up in a two story house, and my mom made it a point to only allow us to stay on the first floor on NYE due to the stray bullet crap.
