    we live in a muslim country for 15years and this was my family,my children first time to experienced holy week in philippines and it feels soooo sooo good to freely celebrate your faith,going to church every sunday w/o worrying you might offend other people or that you might be breaking the law just because of your faith.... Philippines is so different from other southeast asian countries not luxurious like the rest but i think its the freedom or idk 😅

    As a Roman Catholic, Holy Week is simply staying at home, go to Church for scheduled confession, attend mass on Sundays. Some would visit several Churches as a tradition and personal penitentiary activity. It is really a time of sacrifice, reflection and strengthening relationship with God, and, simply be with one’s family at home. No going out to work or do business, if possible. Fasting is part of the sacrifice for abled Adults.

    As a catholic country the Philippines is, the Holy Week is as big as the Christmas season. The only difference is that people are going to the provinces to celebrate it or or spend it in a beach., I used to be like this people who will spend it in the beach but as you age a little you would rather stay at home. I love being at home during this special days. In fact my family went home to our province in Bicol and I was the only one left here in manila.

      Holy week is "Big" for catholic pero mga nasa beach or travel kesa nasa church 😅 therefore, they don't celebrate holy week but they took advantage to travel and enjoy in beaches.

    • @wynncruz1467
      @wynncruz1467 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@GoQuizHive our time today is not the same in the past.And just because they are in the beach they do not commemorate the time when Jesus suffered in the cross.this is just a commenoration of those times. Nothings wrong with that as long as you know in your heart that you remember Jesus and the Lord during holy week it is okay.

    During Holy Week, being one of the longest non-working holiday here in the Philippines, most of the people go home to their provinces to be with families or just go out of town or the country to enjoy the long vacation or just stay home. Usually Thursdays and Fridays are when most shops are closed but come Saturday everything will come back to life. But there are some restaurants especially those opened 24 hours remains open even during the Holy Week and drug stores and food deliveries. If you want to see activities during the Holy week then go to churches. Then the parade you mentioned are not called parade but rather processions. The Lenten activities are mostly done in provinces like Pampanga such as the Cenakulo or the Moriones in the province of Marinduque. Cenakulos are usually done in smaller barangays or homes which you cant find in high-end areas such as BGC or Makati. Happy Resurrection Day. Christ has risen!

    Manila is very quiet during Holy Week especially on Good Friday. The majority go out of town either to their provinces for a short vacation or to popular beach resorts which have been fully booked for Holy Week. Others prefer the colder weather in Tagytay or Baguio. Some go out of the country for short vacations in Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, etc. By Easter Sunday, they start coming back to Manila and this creates terrible traffic jams on the highways leading to the capital.

  • @rektikano7826
    @rektikano7826 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Back in the 90s holy week in the Philippines is very quiet. Not even a single store was opened. We were not allowed to play and make some noises. As time passes by and technology progreses, it is somehow not so silent or boring I might say. However, in the metro it would seem a ghost town as majority of the people would go to their provinces to observe the solemnity of holy week. Some would go Visita Iglesia (during Maundy Thursday wherein they would visit 7 churches to offer prayers). Then Holy Friday is a complete silence, stay at home, no tv or phone (as per my family tradition) is obserbed. It is one way to rejuvenate and to give thanks to our Lord. In my province which is Pampanga, we still have this penitence where volunteered men would heavy crosses on their backs or would have their backs bladed then beaten by themselves until they bleed as a show of sacrifice

    Hi Wistl Family! Happy Easter Day once more! Yes, majority of the Metro folks are actually from the different provinces - or at least will travel on their preferred holiday destination preferences. So the Metro Manila is so quiet, since only the bonafide Manila residents stay at their homes. Basically, this happens only every holy week and Christmas season exclusively due to the long weekends..and it's quite dramatically and insanely overflowing with heavy traffic on all areas by the time they all return to the Metro.
    PS: Easter Day is not quite a huge thing here in the PH, contrary to the ones as practiced in UK, USA and other countries. Rather, it's the Good Friday that is mere important to the PH Christians here.

    Every time Good Friday comes I remember my mom. On one Good Friday she forced us to not look at our cellphone, no turning on the TV and computer. She wanted us to be silent and reflect on Christ's sacrifice on Good Friday. It felt awkward at first but then you get use to being quiet and you can appreciate everything around you. The gentle breeze, the sound of birds chirping in the distance and most of all the stillness of everything. No loud noise, just quiet. That's why whenever Holy Week comes I look forward to Good Friday when the whole Metro becomes quiet and you can freely roam around without any cars whizzing past by you. It's kinda like the city gets to relax and breathe for one day of the year.

    I did not know shops are closed on Christmas Day in UK. But they are open Dec 26 right for Boxing Day?
    Here, some shops are also closed on Dec 25 but mall stores are open with a late opening time.

    We just got done doing the reverse.
    We live in Pampanga and we drove into Manila when empty and then left just as the flood of cars were returning back the other way. LOL

    During holy week, maundy thirsday and good friday all establishments are closed except for essentials like groceries. Most of traditional events in holy week happened in the provinces or oitside the metro, thats why most filipinos take advantage of these holidays by going out of town

    If you are still in the Philippines in next year's Holy Week, visit the
    Makati's Poblacion on late afternoon and evenings St. Peter & Paul Church are having Street Processions. These Procession depicts the Passion and Death of Christ and it also shows the Statues of the 12 Apostles. You and your family can also do some Church Visits for Station of the Cross & personal prayers and enjoy viewing Church Architecture and interior.

    0:46, wait, that's what an Air Residences hallway would look like. Are you guys staying there?

      Yeah, that's definitely Air. The pool deck gives it away, lol. I think I saw your husband with your young lady one Sunday afternoon last month. I didn't recognised him because I haven't seen your vlogs before that time. Now that makes sense why he looked familiar. Hope to see you all.
