    Really nice panting, and I liked the way the paints behaved. The blue-orange is very interesting. How do the supervision paints compare to the Schmincke granulating colours? It;is territory I haven’t explored yet, but I do have some lovely Szmal granulating ones…. So am curious to know how you would compare granulating pigments from different brands.

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      These are different to the Schminckes because only one of the pigments is granulating, whereas Schmincke I think are all granulating pigments. The non-granulating ones in these Super Visions sort of float over the top of the heavier cerulean blue, causing a signficant colour shift. But having said that, Schminckes also split out into their various pigments - just way more granulation! Super Visions are more saturated whereas Schmincke are fairly muted. I could go on for a long time here, lol!

    I clicked on your video because I never heard of these paints before but I'm so glad I did- I love them! I live in NYC (Bklyn actually), and when you said you were doing the SOL- I thought that would be so perfect. Of course the statue itself has oxidized endlessly and has many rust stains over the years, but after seeing the green orange paint after it dried, I was really expecting to see the beautiful rusty green mix of color, but instead it only shows a muted green- what happened? 😳😕🤗🌹

    • @BeckyTregear
      @BeckyTregear  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could just be the layers and I also did a very diluted wash to begin with. I think the paint tends to split more when it has less water in it. Could be the paper too...it is starting to break down and I'm trying to get the sketchbook finished as soon as possible, haha!

      @@BeckyTregear It's still beautiful, you never know what pigments and water will do, but I I'm going tomorrow to get some Van Gogh watercolors for the first time, I've watched a few videos on them and they seem to be pretty decent for the price as here in Bklyn their under $5 a tube. My finances are invisible so I can't afford all the other high end brands, so as long as get the results I'm looking for I'm good. I've been an artist for well over 50 years and have done mostly oils and some pastels as well as draw using graphite and colored pencils, but over 4 years ago I finally got into watercolors and acrylics (their not my favorite cause your painting with plastic when you think about it 🤢😆), but the more I do watercolors I haven't done anything with acrylics in a while. I'm not crazy about gouache because of the chalky finish so I didn't continue with them.

      Hi, aw! Not sure if you're a bloke or a lass, but assuming now that you're a lass? 😄
      Why? Cos you use the feminine version of first:
      "Je suis la première ! "
      The masculine is "Je suis le premier !"
      In France, this gender specificity persists in the language, and I always wonder, when I hear, for example, the host of a show having to say le ou la ..." all the time for "may the best [man] / [woman] win! " or see it written in books, whether the speaker / writer gets fed up with it - but I guess, as it's ingrained from the beginning of learning to speak, they probably don't think about it...

      @@awatercolourist That has made me laugh so much that it's made me cough!!! [but still laughing!]
      I'd thought that, but your choice of gender confuzzled me completely. I use the free version of DeepL Translate for checking my French or translating from one to the other, then doing the 'reverse' translation to double-check it.
      It very rarely lets me down, because it also gives alternatives - in this case, it would have given you the option of le / la. Putting in, "I'm first!" or a name which indicates which gives an indication will help, too,
      I do still use Google if I need to check a correction I may have made to DeepL, but its lack of options / colloquial translation is why I took advice from several sources to do the swap a few years back.
      Check this out and see how it translates my English original ^^^ . 😊
      Ça m'a fait tellement rire que ça m'a fait tousser ! !! (mais je ris quand même !)
      C'est ce que j'avais pensé, mais votre choix de genre m'a complètement déconcerté. J'utilise la version gratuite de DeepL Translate pour vérifier mon français ou traduire de l'un à l'autre, puis faire la traduction "inverse" pour vérifier.
      Il me laisse très rarement tomber, car il donne aussi des alternatives - dans ce cas, il vous aurait donné l'option le / la. Mettre "Je suis le premier !" ou un nom qui indique qui donne une indication peut aussi aider,
      J'utilise quand même Google si j'ai besoin de vérifier une correction que j'ai fait sur DeepL, mais son manque d'options / de traduction informelle est la raison pour laquelle j'ai suivi les conseils de plusieurs sources pour faire l'échange il y a quelques années.

      @@awatercolourist If you copy and paste the French into DeepL, it'll give you the English - then you'll see just how accurate it can be.
      After six years, I'm fluent, but not accurate - that is, I speak French without thinking, and am understood by the person I'm speaking to, but sometimes I'll hesitate over some vocabulary, or I need to ask the other person to slow down - it is normal that they speak sooo fast! (I did live and work here for a couple of years when I was in my early 20's, but that was a very looong time ago!)
      I read novels, etc easily, but get nervous with official documents and replying to them, which is where a good translator is essential! And if I have a long-ish letter / email to write to friends, I cheat and write it in English first!
