- Michel Petrucciani came from an Italo-French family with a musical background. Michel was born with osteogenesis imperfecta, which is a genetic disease that causes brittle bones and in his case short stature.
At an early age he became an enthusiast of Duke Ellington and wished to become a pianist like him. Although he trained for years as a classical pianist, jazz remained his main interest. He gave his first professional concert at the age of 13. At this point of his life he was still quite fragile and had to be carried to and from the piano. His size meant that he required aids to reach the piano's pedals, but his hands were average in length.
By the age of 18 he was part of a successful trio. He moved to the US in 1982, where he successfully encouraged Charles Lloyd to resume playing actively.
In 1986 Petrucciani recorded a live album with Wayne Shorter and Jim Hall. He also played with diverse figures in the US jazz scene including Dizzy Gillespie.
In 1994 he was granted a Légion d'honneur in Paris.
His own style was initially influenced by Bill Evans although some compare him to Keith Jarrett. He is often deemed to be among the best jazz pianists.
Michel Petrucciani died just after his 36th birthday from a pulmonary infection. He was interred in Le Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
a great musician, great spirit. Inspires me to play every day.
will always be remembered!!!!
beautiful man, beautiful soul, beautiful music I wish I'd had the chance to meet him
Your greatness Michel ,is that you relinquished becoming an into an adult
Stéphane grappelli au piano,magique ! Amazing !
EXTRAODINARIO LOS 4 MAESTROS . MICHEL PETRUCCIANI PIANO, STÉPHANE GRAPELLI VIOLÍN, ROY HAYNES BATERÍA y GEORGE MRAZ CONTRABAJO .
Stephane Grappelli (originally mainly known for the recordings with Django Reinhardt) was a true great who could shed 60 years from his age and become a young man again when he played his violin. It's a high for me to see and hear Petrucciani, Grappelli, and Roy Haynes jam.
💓
Thanks to the uploader, but THAT is NOT Charles LLoyd, but is the drummer, Roy Haynes.
That’s exactly right … very strange that mistake.
the great Roy Haynes please...!
The caption says the drummer is Charles Lloyd, which it is not -- who is it?
Funny: Roy Haynes came in , … undertitel : Charles Lloyd …. 😅
Drummer is Roy Hanes.
It is great to see Stephane playing with Michel. Two giants both now lost to history. It is ironic, but I believe that Père Lachaise is now the resting place of both of them. These documentaries allow us to see Michels sense of humor, which seems to have fit his talent well.
A great biography of the amazing life of a wonderful man, whose heart and preciousness goes far beyond any skyscraper. 1000 thanks for posting.
Personne n’a mentionné cet immense contrebassiste :
George Mraz !!!😮😮
I can't believe that watching this video is the first time I have ever seen Michel Petrucciani play. The only reason I had known of him is when I had been looking in the jazz section of my local record store some time in the 1980s for an album by John Patitucci (bass player for Chick Corea), and I saw a Michel Petrucciani album as I was going through those vinyl records. Now I regret not buying that Michel Petrucciani album at the time. *sigh*
could somebody tell me the names of those songs
À ce niveau là,chaque note est sentie,travaillée…
C’est du grand art 🙄
a ride on [ i got rhythm ] great changes a bird riff I tink
Tu veux que j'te montre les accords ?. La tête de Michel à 2:13 quand il y a une fausse note !!!
